Assignment-4 Coplanarity Equations, DLT and RFM
a) Write down the general form of coplanarity equation, clarifying each term included in the
equation.
b) Write down the coplanarity equations for image points of A and B by fixing the orientation
parameters of the left photo and the base component bx.
c) Write down the linearized forms of coplanarity equations given in (b), and provide initial
approximations for the unknowns included in the equations.
d) Compute the values of the approximate functions as well as the partial derivatives with respect to the
unknowns included in the linearized forms provided in (c), using the initial approximations provided
for the unknowns.
Q2. For an aerial image, the interior and exterior orientation parameters are given as follows:
xo = yo = 0 , f = 150 mm , ω = φ = κ = 0 , XL = 1000 m , Y = 1000 m , Z = 1500 m
The ground coordinates of 6 points appearing on the image are given in the following table
Ground Coordinates
Point
X, m Y, m Z, m
1 180 1880 100
2 1910 1910 130
3 200 200 90
4 1900 200 140
5 1100 1200 85
6 890 800 95
a) Compute the image coordinates of the 6 points using the collinearity equation.
b) Estimate the 11 parameters of the DLT model that relates the ground coordinates of the 6
points to their image coordinates.
c) Use the 11 parameters estimated in (b) to derive the object coordinates of exposure station.
Q3. Given a stereo pair of satellite images, name a generic mathematical model relating the image
space to the object space, which can replace the physical sensor model. Write down the
mathematical model considering cubic polynomials and clarify each element involved. If it is of
interest to determine the coefficients of the polynomials included, how many known points
appearing on both images are required?
