Jericho F. Ruam The Teacher and the School Curriculum

BSNED 3rd Year EDUC 318

Module 1
LESSON 1
Activity: Direction: Based on your observation and understanding as a student, make a
concept map about the curriculum operating in schools.

CONCEPT MAP

Analysis:
The Matatag curriculum aims to address varieties of critical issues in our educational system.
This curriculum promotes learner centered learning essential for fostering deeper understanding
among learners. It aims to alleviate the overloading curriculum issue resulting in manageable
learning experiences for both the teachers and students. It supports the teachers, it allows more
comprehensive evaluation of students' learning.
Application:
Direction: Review your concept map. Write your own definition of curriculum
(20-30 words only).
The coordinated content and learning opportunities offered in an educational
program that includes lessons, goals, resources, and tests created to meet particular
learning objectives are known as the curriculum.

LESSON 2

Activity
Direction: In the dialog boxes below, write the roles that teachers have based on your
own observation.

1.If you are to cluster the roles of the teacher that you have listed above, what are these
clusters?
1. Supportive Roles
Mentor: coaches and assists students.
Role Model: Motivate students through actions.
2. Facilitative Roles
Facilitator: establishes a positive learning environment.
Collaborator: engages with colleagues and parents for better learning.
3. Developmental Roles
Content Developer: drafts lesson plans and materials.
Adaptor: personalized content for diverse learning needs.
4. Evaluative Roles
Assessor: Evaluates student progress and provides feedback.

2.What are the insights that you have gained from the activity?
Teachers are a multifaceted profession in addition to being educators. Teachers offer
advice that goes beyond academic subjects. Teachers provide dynamic spaces where
students may express themselves and contribute, rather than just giving lectures.
Lessons should be customized to each child's needs. Additionally, they serve as a
support network and track the development of the pupils' performance. To keep up with
the times, they upgraded their master's degrees and went to seminars and workshops.
It's challenging to balance these jobs. We must thus give our teachers credit for their
greatest efforts.

Application
1. Reflect the role of the teacher as ‘curricularist’ What are the implications of these
to you as a pre-service teacher?
When considering the 'curricularist' function of a teacher, one finds that it has a
significant influence on aspiring educators. This position highlights how crucial it
is to comprehend curriculum design in order to accommodate a range of student
demands and to put into practice engaging teaching techniques. It also
emphasizes how important it is to evaluate student performance in order to make
ongoing improvements and work with colleagues to improve teaching methods.
While adopting lifelong learning guarantees that instructors stay educated and
competent, adaptability is essential in adapting to shifting educational
requirements. All things considered, this perspective emphasizes the necessity of
proactive and thoughtful teaching methods, readying us to create productive
learning environments for our future pupils.

MODULE 2

LESSON 4

Application

Activities
1. Draw a diagram that will show the factors that influence the K to 12 curriculum of our
country.
2.Draw a Diagram that will show the factors that influence the curriculum (e.g., English,
Physical Education, or Science) that you are in right now.

3.Have you observed changes in the curriculum at this time of Pandemic? Describe
your observation.

Definitely the pandemic brought notable changes in the curriculum, especially in the
Philippines. Majority of Schools in the country shifted to online classes which
curriculums are adapted into online platforms. It tests the digital literacy skills of both the
teachers and their students. There's an emphasis on essential subjects while others
receive less attention focusing on what is essential for learning outcomes. Most of all
mental health was the top priority during that time recognizing the burden of the teacher
most especially the students who are vulnerable at that time. Schools have
implemented services that support the mental and emotional wellbeing of the students.
