Air Conditioning
- Low pressure refrigerant vapor entering the compressor
is compressed to become high pressure/temperature
vapor.
- The condenser acts as a heat exchanger and allow heat
to flow from the hot refrigerant to outside air, as the high
pressure/temperature vapor travels through condenser
the vapor into a liquid.
- The filter drier acts as a particle filter, refrigerant storage
container and most importantly a moisture absorber.
- By using small variable orifice valve provides refrigerant
pressure drop to decrease the refrigerant temperature
- Refrigerant enters the evaporator as cold low pressure
liquid, heat moves from the warm air blowing across the
evaporator fins into cooler refrigerant. this air was ducted
into the cabin by the blower motor
The Cabin Filter

The cabin filter is a key part of the air ventilation cycle. It is installed in the air inlet port of the blower and
filters foreign particles such as dust, pollen, soot, etc.. Cabin filters are available in various shapes, sizes
and versions to suit different vehicles. In order to illustrate the arrangement in the air intake duct, a
schematic diagram of an air conditioning system is shown below.
The Cabin Filter Types

Standard filter (AC)

The standard filter chiefly absorbs solid particles such as pollen, spores,
soot, specks of dust, tire wear particles, etc. from the outside air. It achieves
this by means of a specially developed filter medium.

Activated carbon filter (ACC)

In addition to solid particles, the activated carbon filter also filters
harmful gases such as nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide, ozone and
hydrocarbons, and keeps 95% of these out of the cabin. The activated
carbon layer can filter out and absorb the smallest particulates.
Unpleasant odours are also contained, so that smells when driving
through tunnels or in traffic jams, for example, are kept to a minimum.
Change interval and consequential damage

The cabin filter must be changed at the following indications:

• Fogged windows despite a high fan setting.

• Poor performance of the air conditioning system.
• Lower air flow from blower fan.
• A musty smell
• Tiredness of the occupants
• Contamination of the passenger compartment and
interior lining

Note:
The cabin filter for passenger cars may not be cleaned
or blasted with compressed air. This has the effect of
embedding microscopic dirt particles more deeply in
the depth structure of the filter paper.
