ELECTRIC GO-KART

PROJECT BY STUDENTS OF D. Y. PATIL COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND


TECHNOLOGY, KASABA BAWADA - KOLHAPUR
ABOUT US

We are the TEAM RAPTORS, Students of the D. Y. Patil College of Engineering and
Technology, Kolhapur, 25 racing enthusiasts and engineers came together to participate in National
Electric Kart Championship season 3.0 – 2019, a platform that allows students to apply their
engineering skills and thereby design and manufacture a electric go kart.
Each member of team contributes towards the team in his specialized area of interest. Team
members handle the various aspects of this competition ranging from technical details such as motor,
chassis, breaks and other electronics, to managing the marketing sponsorship for the team. We are
guided by extremely competent faculty, and are backed by our institute for this project
We request you to take part in our journey and help us in reaching our goal. Your benevolent
fund along with our perseverance will help us to achieve our goal, and bring our imagination into reality.
Being the team from Kolhapur to participate and represent our city at national level is big moment of
pride for us. Your contribution would take us a step closer to our goal.

ABOUT ELECTRIC GO-KART
Typically, Go-Kart is a simple four-wheeled, small engine, single sealed racing car. But in case of E-kart, the
engine and related parts are replaced with motor, motor controller and batteries. At the beginning the go
karts were only popular in the united states and other foreign countries, but now the go karts are also
taking over the Indian markets.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

As we know, sooner or later, IC engines will become absolute because of various reasons such as
increasing pollution, depletion of the non-renewable energy sources, etc. and we have alternative, which is
obviously electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are far better than IC engine as they cause negligible pollution
as compared to the IC engine, they have high starting torque, they are less noisy, and are highly efficient. Due
to these reasons, electric vehicles will surpass the gasoline vehicles.
This is also going to happen in motorsport. There are already many Electric motorsport events
all over the globe. There are numerous events for students as well as for professionals organized by large
companies like Redbull, Mahindra, Mercedes, etc. and NEKC, Eco-Kart, Indian Kart Racing, etc are National
level events for Undergraduate students.
Go-kart is used by the drivers who are planning to race in formula one and also by karting
enthusiast. Motorsport of Go-karting is getting popular in India too so there is also scope for a startup as
there are very less Electric go kart manufacturers in India. Also there is great scope for innovation in the
power source (batteries) which is very important as conventional batteries are vary costly and have many
drawbacks.

OUR WORK PROGRESS
We have made the design of the chassis
in CATIA and performed various impact
tests on the chassis design in ANSYS. The
design has proven to be safe in those
tests.
