Scene 1
Narrator: Lear decides to live alternately with Goneril and Regan, expecting to
retain his authority and respect. However, tension quickly arises as Goneril, tired of
his unruly entourage, begins to resent his presence.
Edmund: [To himself.] I hear the Duke of Cornwall is coming tonight. That's
perfect for my plan. My father has a guard ready to arrest my brother, Edgar. But
first, there's one more thing I need to do.
[Edgar enters]
Edmund: Brother, we need to talk. Our father is coming soon, so you must leave!
He knows you're hiding here. But first, let's pretend to fight. Grab your sword
quickly, before he arrives. Now, run, brother!
[Edgar exists]
Edmund: [To himself.] If there is some blood on me, people will think I have been
in a fight. [Edmund cuts his arm.]
[Gloucester enters]
3
Edmund: He ran that way. When I refused his plan, after cutting my arm.
EDMUND: His plan is to kill you, father. I told him that I loved you.
plan, he cut my arm with his sword. Then he saw that I was ready to
here tonight. I will tell him that there's a reward for any man who finds
GLOUCESTER: This is terrible! It is a stab in the back. I'll stop people from
leaving England's ports; Edgar won't leave the country. Thank you, my loving son
Edmund. Now I will do everything to help you. You will inherit all my land.
CORNWALL: Gloucester, how are you, my friend? Since I've arrived here, I've
heard some strange news.
Edmund: Regan Said to me once: I know Edgar spent time with my father's
soldiers. Also, she added that the soldiers have given him the idea of plotting
against his father, trying to kill him, so that he can use his father's money. Goneril
has warned me to be careful of them. If they come to my house, I won't be there.
CORNWALL: Edmund, I'd like you to work for me. I need men like you that I
can trust.
[They exit.]
Scene 2
Narrator: At the beginning of scene 2, Edgar wasn`t caught because he hid in the
trees. He also distinguished himself as a beggar and wear clothes of a poor man.
Kent is punished by Goneril soldiers and returned to king Lear.
Kent:
Good morning, my Lord.
King Lear:
what has happened? Who did this to you?
Kent:
It was your daughter Regan and her husband Cornwall.
King Lear: But you are working for the king they shouldn’t do this to you this is
terrible where is my daughter. Why won’t they speak to me? Are they tired? That’s
no excuse.
Gloucester: I’m sorry, your majesty, but the Duke of Cornwall is easily angered.
He won’t change his mind.
Mohamed will say Freeze with a loud voice me(Gloucester will
stay freeze and abdullah(king lear) and he will say the question).
Here is the second question

Scene 3
Narrator: At the beginning of Scene 3 King Lear was so angry from Regan and
Goneril speaking with them about their actions.
Lear:
Regan, I’ll stay with you now. Goneril has shown no kindness to her father, she
turns her back on me.
Regan:
(Pretending sympathy)
Father, calm yourself. Perhaps Goneril just wants what’s best for you. You’re being
too harsh.
Lear:
Harsh? She has stripped me of my dignity! I thought I had two loving daughters,
but it seems neither of you respects your father anymore.
Goneril:
(Firmly)
6
Father, your knights are unruly. They disrupt my household, and you refuse to
control them. What do you expect me to do?
Lear:
(Outraged)
My knights, my loyal followers, they are my honor! And you think to strip them of
me?
(Firmly) Father, you don’t need so many knights. What purpose do they serve
now? Half would suffice.
Lear:
(Stepping back, shocked) Half? You would reduce me to half my honor? What am I
to you? An old man to be managed and controlled?
Goneril:
This is not about dishonor, Father. It is about sense. Your knights make a mess of
everything, and you refuse to see it.
Lear:
(To Regan) And you, Regan, you agree with her? You, who once swore you would
love and honor me? You too would see me stripped of all respect?
Regan:
7
(Coldly) Yes, Father. Think about it. What use is this display, these hundred
knights? Do you need them to know who you are?
Lear:
(Visibly hurt) Need them? They are my last connection to who I was! Do you not
understand the pain you cause?
Goneril:
(Sighing, impatient) This is not an attack on you, Father. We are simply asking for
reason.
Lear:
I have no daughters, then. Just two thankless creatures who seek to tear me down.
Regan:
(Looking at Goneril) We must do what’s best, Goneril. If Father will not listen,
then he must face reality.
Lear:
(With despair) Heartless! Both of you, as cold as the grave. I thought I could trust
in you… but I see now that I am utterly alone.
GONERIL : Listen, father. You do not need twenty five, ten or even five
KING LEAR : Why do I need them ? Even the poorest beggars have things
that they don't need. If you only give people what they need to live,
8
then they are little more than animals. You are a lady. If you just want
to stay warm, you don't need those beautiful clothes you're wearing.
They don't keep you warm at all. But, if you ask me what I really need,
Goneril:
(Coldly) Let him go, sister. He’ll come to his senses, or he won’t. Either way, this
is no longer his kingdom to command.
