1. Why are you learning English?

I am learning English because I dream of moving to America, finding a good job,
building a career, making friends, and creating a comfortable life for myself and
my future family.

a) Do you speak any languages apart from your mother tongue and English?
No, I don’t speak any other languages fluently, but like most Ukrainians, I can
understand Polish, Belarusian, Czech, and Slovak because of their similarity to
Ukrainian, especially in written form.

b) Who is the best language learner in your family?

My aunt, who worked on a cruise ship for many years, where she had to
communicate with passengers from different countries. Now she works in a
Ukrainian-English kindergarten, helping children learn English from an early age.

c) Did you use any learning strategies when studying your second language?
Which?
I sometimes watch TV series in English with English subtitles to learn new words
more easily, get used to the pronunciation, and understand native speakers in
different contexts. I also listen to English songs and try to translate their lyrics.

d) When was the first time you used a foreign language outside the classroom?
It was last summer when I traveled to Romania. I don’t speak Romanian, and
Romanians don’t speak Ukrainian, so we often used English to communicate in
stores, train stations, and hotels. It was my first real experience using the language
outside the classroom.

e) Do you have the chance to speak/write to native speakers regularly?

I have volunteer friends from America who currently live in Ukraine. If I have the
desire or need, I can regularly communicate with them in English, practicing both
spoken and written language.
f) Is it important for you to learn slang or jargon in English, or do you only
want to learn standard English?
Of course, it’s important because I want to live in America, where I’ll have to
communicate with native speakers daily. Slang and jargon are an essential part of
their everyday language, so knowing only standard English could be a barrier to
full communication.

Which is more important when learning to speak a language: fluency or

accuracy?
Fluency is more important to me because native speakers often don’t worry too
much about perfect grammar in everyday conversations. The key is to express my
thoughts clearly and confidently, even if I make small mistakes sometimes.

Which skill is the hardest for you: speaking, listening, reading, or writing?
Which is the easiest?
Speaking is the hardest for me because I sometimes fear making mistakes, and
listening is also challenging because native speakers often talk quickly or use
unfamiliar words. Reading is the easiest because I can pause, think, and translate
unfamiliar words if needed.
Do you know anyone who is bilingual? What advantages might they have in
life?
Yes, my volunteer friends are bilingual. They are Ukrainians who moved to
America in childhood, so they speak both Ukrainian and English well. This gives
them more career opportunities, allows them to travel easily, communicate with
people from different countries, and better understand different cultures.
2. The five steps for good email writing are:

Define Your Purpose:

Clearly understand why you are writing the email. Identify your main message and
what action you want the recipient to take.

Use a Clear Subject Line:

Write a subject line that summarizes the email’s content concisely and grabs the
recipient's attention. Make it specific and relevant.

Start with a Proper Greeting:

Use an appropriate salutation based on the level of formality (e.g., “Dear [Name],”
“Hello [Name],” or “Hi [Name]”).

Structure Your Message Clearly:

 Begin with a polite opening.
 State your main point or request clearly in the first paragraph.
 Use short paragraphs and bullet points if needed to improve readability.
 End with a clear call to action or next steps.

Close Politely and Proofread:

 Use a courteous closing phrase (e.g., “Kind regards,” “Sincerely,” or “Best
wishes”).
 Proofread for grammar, spelling, and tone to ensure professionalism and
clarity.
3.Can you think about one man and one woman who have played important
roles ni your life? Who were they? Why was the relationship important?
of course, these are my mom and dad, they raised me, they loved me, they gave me
everything I needed, they were always here and thanks to them I am who I am now
Do you think men and women are different in these roles? How?
In terms of roles, I do think men and women can approach these roles differently
due to societal expectations and personal traits. For instance, my father’s approach
to support and guidance often leaned more toward practical advice and problem-
solving, while my mother’s support was more emotional and nurturing. That said,
the importance of both roles is undeniable, and these differences don’t necessarily
diminish the value of the relationship; they just reflect the unique ways men and
women can contribute. Ultimately, these roles are not rigid, and both men and
women can embody a variety of qualities in any relationship.

4. I know when someone is lying by noticing changes in their behavior. They may
avoid eye contact, fidget, speak hesitantly, or give inconsistent answers. Their tone
of voice and facial expressions might also seem unnatural or forced.

6. I know a few of Michael Jackson's conspiracies. The first - Sean Combs, known
as P-didi, Beyoncé and Jay Z, was involved in his death. At that time, Michael
Jackson was a real star, an idol of billions, and at that time Beyoncé began to gain
considerable popularity, and to be better, they decided to move Michael Jackson.
The second conspiracy is that Michael Jackson had too many debts that he could
not pay off, so he decided to fix his death. He changed his name, appearance and
voice. They say he was even at the funeral.
7. Are you a planner or a procrastinator? Why?
It's hard to pinpoint who I am: a procrastinator or a planner. It all depends on the
situation, but I would still say that in most cases I am still a procrastinator

a) When was the last time you left something until the last minute?
it was Saturday evening when I was unexpectedly reminded of IDZ in higher math.
At that time, I was at the other end of Kyiv, so I had to go to the chummery very
quickly, there were two hours left before the deadline, but I still managed to do
everything and was very grateful to the person who reminded me of the test.

b)Can you think of a job that you have put off for a while? When do you
plan to do it?
I put off cleaning the kitchen for a long time, and I still don't know when I plan to
clean up, because I'm so lazy to do it: wash, sweep, it's so boring and difficult

c)What do you get distracted by when you’re working? How do you

try to avoid distractions?
I am very often distracted by my phone, if I receive a message, I immediately pick
it up and start watching Instagram, Telegram, Tik Tok, and because of this, I get
the job done not in an hour, but in five. To avoid this, I just turn off the sound and
try not to look at my phone to see if someone texts me

d) Do you think it’s a good idea to write to-do lists?

Yes, writing to-do lists is a good idea because they help you stay organized and
manage your time effectively. They allow you to prioritize tasks, set clear goals,
and track your progress. Completing items on a to-do list can also give you a sense
of accomplishment and keep you motivated throughout the day.
8. What inventions or developments do you know? How do you think they can
benefit people?
 Translating machines: These devices allow real-time translation of
languages, breaking down language barriers and improving global
communication for travel, business, and education.
 Virtual Reality (VR): VR immersion in entertainment and education can
enhance learning, make experiences vivid, and connect people to new ideas.
It can also benefit healthcare by providing VR therapy for mental health and
simulations for training.
 3D Printing: The ability to print organs, medical devices, and even houses
has the potential to save lives and improve living conditions.
 Vertical farming: This will help tackle food shortages, especially in cities,
while preserving land.
b) Which ideas in the article “A better world?’ do you like? Can you think of
other uses for these inventions?
I really like the idea of translating machine. This would greatly facilitate the life of
many people, would give an opportunity to communicate with any person, from
any country. It would be much easier to travel the world. This development would
also help in education, students could watch speeches, conferences and lectures of
professors in any language, which would greatly expand our views and knowledge.

c) Which ideas don`t you like? Why not?

VR sounds exciting, but the idea of tiny microchips being placed in the brain
raises concerns about privacy, safety, and ethical implications. It could lead to
addiction or blur the line between reality and virtual worlds. If mishandled, it
could even be used for manipulative purposes.
d) Which ideas do you agree will probably come true?
I know that 3D printers already exist. They are already creating implants,
prostheses, copies of joints and skin cells. therefore, I am sure that in the near
future, this technology will be developed, and soon it will be possible to print the
first heart
9. Imagine you are a futurist; and it’s your job to predict the future. Think
about the following topics: communication technology, food, work habits,
cities, the environment. What changes do you think will happen in these areas
by 2040?
If to be positive, by 2040, communication technology will have advanced
significantly, with holographic calls and virtual meetings becoming standard.
Brain-computer interfaces may enable people to communicate directly through
thoughts, and AI-powered assistants will handle daily tasks. In food, lab-grown
meat and plant-based alternatives will be common, while personalized nutrition
based on DNA will be widely practiced. Work habits will shift to remote and
hybrid models, with automation taking over repetitive tasks, leaving humans to
focus on creativity and problem-solving. Cities will be transformed into smart
hubs, using AI to manage traffic and energy, with self-driving cars and drones
becoming the main mode of transport. Eco-friendly buildings and green
infrastructure will dominate urban planning. In terms of the environment,
renewable energy sources will replace fossil fuels, and advanced recycling
methods will help reduce waste. Overall, the world in 2040 will be defined by
technological innovation and a strong focus on sustainability.

10. I was born in the Donetsk region in the city of Seversk, my childhood was
ordinary, kindergarten, friends, sea, family. I was active in school, participated in
many competitions, Olympiads, danced, performed at all city concerts and
holidays. After the beginning of a full-scale war, my family left for Kharkov, and
when I graduated from school and entered the university, I moved to the city that
was my dream - Kyiv. Here I live in a hostel. I love animals, so throughout my life
I had a lot of cats, dogs, parrots, fish, even once there were pigeons, sparrows,
swifts, snails and a turtle. I don't have many friends because I don't like big and
loud companies, I better have few but very close friends. The most vivid memory
of my life is the last summer I spent in Romania. There I met new interesting and
important people who made this summer unforgettable and fun.

11. Can you remember a misunderstanding in your life about a time, person,
place, etc? What happened?
I can't mention misunderstandings with time or place, because I always worry
about it and watch carefully, but it happened many times with people. I remember
when I was going to school and someone came to meet me and waved, I thought it
was my friend and started to wave back, but it turned out that this person was
waving to a person who was walking behind me.
I also remember in elementary school after lessons, when my classmates and I
were in the locker room getting dressed, when I finished, I shouted to my teacher
"grandma, I'm done"
