CONTROLS ENGINEERING

LAB # 2
Introduction of the Control Engineering
Lab Equipment

NAME: Malik Muhammad Farhan

CLASS: ME-13-A
CMS ID: 389829
SUBMITTED TO: LE Usman Ali

SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL AND MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING

Objectives:
Main objectives of the lab include.
➢ Introduction of Lab equipments.
➢ Understanding laws and principles that were the basis of
experiments.
➢ Working of lab equipments.
Apparatus Used:
Four equipments were introduced to us.
Flow Control Trainer:
This equipment is used to facilitate the optimization of control
parameters to achieve desired flow rates, ensuring efficient and safe
operation of fluid systems.
Pressure Control Trainer:
Pressure control trainer is designed for understanding the basic
principles of pressure control. The process set up consists of pressure
vessel fitted with pneumatic control valve. Pressure transmitter is used
for pressure sensing.
Liquid Level Control Trainer:
Liquid Level Controllers are devices used in upstream and
midstream applications to monitor the level of liquid and ensure that
the liquid is maintained at the set level.
Temperature Control Trainer:
Temperature control is a set of procedures, strategies,
measurements, and conditions established to meet and maintain the
standards and specifications of a given product and/or process
regarding temperature.
Flow Control Trainer:

Flow Sensor
Control Panel

Process Tank
Rotameter

Control Panel: To control the flow of water.

Rotameter: To measure the flow rate of water.
Hall effect sensor: Convert physical quantities into measurable
voltage.
Flow Sensor: For sensing the flow of water and giving value in volts.
Process Tank: Tank for processing of fluid.
Gate Valves: Acts as a gate for the fluid flow.
Float Switch: To control the level of liquid in process tank.
Water pump: To pump the water through the cycle.
Temperature Control Trainer:
Heater Control Panel
Temperature guage

Condenser
Control Panel: To control the temperature of water in a process tank.
Condenser: To decrease the temperature of water.
Heater: To increase the temperature of water.
Temperature gauge: To measure the temperature of water.

Pressure Control Trainer:

Pressure Gauge

Control Panel
Float Switch

Pressure Gauge: Measures the pressure of water.

Float Switch: Control the water level.
Pressure Safety: Keeps pressure from exceeding the limit.
Level Control Trainer:
LVDT

Ball

Solenoid Valve

Strainer

LVDT: Linear Variable Differential Transformer, is a type of

electromechanical sensor used for measuring linear displacement or
position.
Ball: Keeps the water level in range.
Solenoid Valve: It is simply a valve which controls the flow of water
which has solenoid and a magnetic field and works on
electromagnetic induction.
Strainer: Work as a filter to separate solid particles from liquid.

Lab Safety Precautions:

➢ Follow electrical safety guidelines and avoid working with live
circuits.
➢ Adhere to all lab rules, guidelines, and standard operating
procedures (SOPs) provided by the lab supervisor or instructor.
➢ Do not make loose connections.
➢ Ensure proper connections of the set points.
➢ Always ensure that you turn off the equipment, before
removing or adding any connections.
➢ Keep water and liquids away from electrical equipment to
prevent water hazard. Adhere to electrical safety guidelines to
minimize the risk of electrical shocks or other electrical
hazards.
➢ Inspect equipment before use, and promptly report any faults or
issues.
➢ Handle all lab tools and equipment with care to avoid accidents
and maintain a safe environment.
