Lab Report 07
Position Control of AC Servo Motor

SUBMITTED BY:
Name: Malik Muhammad Farhan
CMS ID: 389829
Section:ME-13A

Session: Fall 2023

Semester: 5th
Objectives
• Be familiar with the measure method of AC servo motor parameters.
• To learn the position control of AC servo motor.
• Importance of AC servo motors in control systems.

Equipment Used
• PC (with Panaterm version 6.0)
• AC servo trainer
• Leads

Procedure and Software Interface Steps:

1. First set the connections on the AC servo motor apparatus according to the circuit diagram
drawn above.
2. Now open Panaterm ver 6.0 from the desktop of the computer.
3. Choose the option “Communication with the driver” from the new window opened. Press
update and then OK.

5. When this window closes, select “Parameters” from the top panel and then select "Read
from file” and then click OK..

6. In the next window, we have to select the directory which contains the apparatus data files.
(G:) > AC servo data > Parameters > position.prm5 > OK.

7. Now a new window containing the AC servo data will show up.

8. Now the position of the motor can be controlled using the AC servo motor panel through
the voltage knobs.

Observations and Discussion

It was observed that with every minute movement of knob, the disc rotated as a reaction to our
manual input. The sensitivity of the AC servo motor was clearly observed here. For precise position
control, servo motors are preferrable as stepper motors only change positions on [articular angles
cannot stop in intermediate angles.
Safety Precautions
• Inspect all electrical equipment for damage before use.
• Never overload electrical outlets.
• Make proper electrical connections.
• Keep water and liquids away from electrical equipment.
• Always disconnect power sources before making any electrical connections or
modifications.
