Is that actually true or do most business owners fail their businesses within
___ years. The real issue is that people aren’t brutally honest about their own
businesses… not even to themselves! When we work as consultants and
coaches to owners, and they tell us about a new innovation, plan or idea and
we begin to press for details, there is a consistent under estimation of how
much it will cost, how much time it will take, and how much work it will be.
Owners aren’t honest with employees, clients, investors about it and more
importantly…themselves. They over promise and under deliver to their own
business! This makes sense because no-one wants to be told that this is
going to be a bigger or more difficult process than we the seminar/successful
business person/success book told us it would be.
Here is the brutal truth to begin to speak to yourself and others f rom..
• It’s going to cost twice as much as you think.
• It’s going to take twice as long as you think.
• It’s going to be twice as much work than you think.
The business tip is simply this…BE BRUTALLY HONEST. With yourself, and
with others. Over promising and under delivering is a direct path to
dissatisfaction.

“I will practice “walking away f rom the table” and taking time with my
decisions before I say, ''yes or, ''no” .''
“I will offer only realistic and achievable goals, deadlines and financial
considerations in such a way that I always end up over delivering on an under
promise.”

OK…this is the part where we discuss TRUE SELF CARE. Binge watching a
streaming service with an “adult-beverage” in your hand after a hard day and
calling it “relaxation” is an issue. It's a crutch! Crutches are temporary relief
tools to protect an injured appendage and at some point…it’s time to put
weight on the limb, stretch it, use it and get it back to the point where you
DON’T NEED CRUTCHES! Taking and making the TIME to tend to your
personal life, personal health and personal well being is, f rankly, the most
important thing you can do to be successful in all areas of your life. If your
personal life, health, fitness etc is in order…you can do more and better. We
are not going to placate this conversation with the concept of “set better
boundaries” because when you are trying to get your business launched, go
f rom good to great, or are making the leap of faith to that 7 digit income
world, your boundaries will be broken. You HAVE to grow, you HAVE to take
the opportunity to work on yourself mentally, physically, emotionally,
spiritually and financially… and “setting boundaries so you have time to do
this” is cheap advice.. You KNOW you need to do this, so let's address the
excuses…
“I don’t have time.” This isn’t about time. Time is a man-made construct to
quantify things… and everyone is given the same amount, whether or not you
have enough ENERGY to utilize the time you have been given is the actual
issue. Make this about your energy. You can take responsibility for your
energy. You can change your energy. We use time as an excuse because it’s
indicative of something we can’t control. Well…you CAN’T, but you can
control how you use the time.
2. “I don’t have the money.” good news! This stuff is f ree. Here are 5 things
you can do to improve your personal life, health, fitness and energy levels
that doesn’t cost anything:
a. Drink more water.
b. Eat more nutritious food.
c. Move your body.
d. Breath on purpose.
e. Sleep more.
4. “I’ll do it someday/one day.” Bad news…I just checked the calendar and I
couldn’t find “Someday” or “One Day” anywhere! But I did find “today”.
5. “It’s too much and I don’t know where to start.” This overwhelm is totally
legit. Entrepreneurs and Business Owners get very bogged down in the
details and their brains become accustomed to scouting all of the variations,
the long game, the big picture and so on. This is a very understandable
excuse… and so is the solution. It’s called the “One Thing” philosophy. It is
used in therapy for depression and anxiety, business for creating slow burn
culture changes, and YOU can use it to take your personal life BACK. So only
do “One thing” differently today than you did yesterday. ONE THING. It
doesn’t matter how small that one thing is. Vacuum. 1 push up. 1 extra lap
around the block with the dog. Cook at home 1 night. 1 extra glass of water.
ONLY ONE THING IS NECESSARY and you can be done with your work for
that day. Repeat this each day. One thing extra. One thing different. ONE
THING. In a week, a month, a year of this practice…can you even imagine how
different things will be? (Top secret bonus…you will naturally being to do
more than one thing…in fact, most people start to struggle ONLY doing one
thing differently!)

6. “I let my work life invade my personal life.” Set better boundaries! LOL.
Psych. Everyone does this. You’re human. You are reading this because you
want change. WANT is the WILL trying to manifest. You have to just let it.

For 90 days. Change something in your personal life. Habits take 90 days to
change in the brain, so your challenge is to make one “Trait Change” in your
life. End a bad habit, start a good habit, get something fixed or clean out
finally. Finish a major project, face a fear, take a class, join a networking
group and attend consistently… Whatever you choose, give this 90 days a
honest, authentic, go at real change.

There are some “Best Practices” around business that you need to start using
with your relationships. We’re not sure why people don’t see the value of
these practices in their personal lives, but it’s a big no-brainer…
1. Clear Goals : Business goes nowhere without clear goals and
objectives. SMART goals as well. You can want and desire all day
long, but are you CLEAR about what you want and how to
achieve it?
While this may sound or feel contrived, relationships tend to thrive with good
connection, communication and creativity. This is a fearless analysis of this
very thing. You can do this with business, with finances, with policy… do it
with your relationships and see what you discover.
Let's start with SMART GOALS around Relationships. Pick one that you would
like to improve. It doesn’t matter if it's a f riendship, a romantic relationship,
or a business relationship… Fill out the SMART GOALS worksheet and discover
what is really important to you in this connection.
1. Specific
2. Measurable
3. Achievable
