Assignment #4 Fourier Transform

Problem 1
Calculate the Fourier transform of the following time domain signals. Use the properties of the Fourier
transform found in the “Properties of Fourier Transforms” table in textbook and the “Famous Fourier
Transforms Table” in textbook instead of direct integration as much as possible to simplify your
calculation wherever appropriate:
2 −2 t 2
1 − 3 t −2, 2 t 4
(i) x(t ) = 3 / 2 t = −2,2
1/ 2 t = −3,4
0 otherwise
−t
(ii) x(t ) = e
(iii) x(t ) = sin(2 100 t )
(iv) x(t ) = rect(t ) sin(2 100t )
2
(v) x(t ) =
t2 +1
+
(vi) x p (t ) = rect(t − 3k ) (periodic)
k =−
(vii) x(t ) = cos(2 t ) cos(2 100 t )
d 2sinc(t )
(viii)
dt 2
(ix) u(t ) e−t u(t ) (convolution)
+
(x) x p (t ) = (−1) k (t − k ) (periodic)
k =−
(xi) y(t ) = sin(4 t ) + cos(6 t + / 4) = sin(4 t ) + cos[6 (t + 1 / 24)]

Problem 2
Calculate the Inverse Fourier Transform of the following frequency domain signals.
2sin[3ω − 6𝜋]
𝑋(𝜔) =
ω − 2𝜋
𝜋
𝑋(𝜔) = cos (4𝜔 + )
3
𝑋(𝜔) = 2𝑗[𝛿(𝜔 − 1) − 𝛿(𝜔 + 1)] + 3[𝛿(𝜔 − 3) + 𝛿(𝜔 + 3)]

Problem 3
Consider an LTI system with frequency response 𝐻(𝜔) given by
𝑗𝜔 + 4
𝐻(𝜔) =
6 − 𝜔 2 + 5𝑗𝜔
(a) Find the impulse response h(t) for this system. [Hint: In case of polynomial over polynomial frequency
domain representation, we analyze the denominator and use partial fraction expansion to write 𝐻(𝜔) in the form
𝐴 𝐵
𝐻(𝜔) = 𝑎+𝑗𝜔 + 𝑏+𝑗𝜔 + ⋯, then we notice that each of these fraction terms is the Fourier of an exponential multiplied
by a unit step as per the Table.]
(b) What is the output y(t) from the system if the input signal is
x(t ) = e−4t u (t ) − te−4t u (t )
