You are Ann. Write a letter to your penfriend, Vivian in about 120 words
to tell him/her about a competition (c.g. TV, college/work or sports
competition) that you took part in, including information about:
What kind of competition it was and how you found out about it;
What you had to do;
What the prizes were;
And explain why you chose to take part in this competition.
Dear Vivian,
How are things? Hope you are doing well.
I have never considered myself a competitive person. I just hate the anxiety I
have whenever I was competing against somebody. The last time I competed
was in a running marathon held at my university. I remember my friend
signing me up, because she said that each class needed at least two
participants. I reluctantly accepted and went to the race. I was not that good
at running, but I thought just participating was enough. So the day of the
competition came, and I went to the race to prepare. Even though I knew
there was no pressure, I still felt quite nervous. Then the marathon started,
and I started as quickly as I could. Gradually, I fell behind compared to the
rest of the group. My classmates were shouting for me to go faster, but I just
thought about running out of breath and my feet was on fire. So I finally
finished the race. I was not amongst the first people to. My whole body was
on fire, but I at least finished, and was quite proud of myself for not quitting
in the middle of the tracks.
Anyway, that's all I can write for now. Write back to tell me about your news
soon.
Love,
Ann
PART 2 Writing a short essay
► While the train brings the conveniences of transport, the plane can
make long-distance travel quick and safe. In my opinion, I prefer
travelling by plane because of some following reasons.
Firstly, there are more and more domestic flights or air routes
throughout the country. Moreover, travel agencies are in many streets so
it's convenient for passengers in Vietnam to book frights for travelling,
studying or business trips.
Secondly, as flight tickets are quite affordable for even middle-
income people, it did no longer belong to only the rich.
Finally, people have a lot of options for entertainment such as enjoying
the spectacular view through the window or kick back in comfort when in
the plane.
In conclusion, I rarely travel by plane but I would say that I enjoy
traveling with a plane the most because of its convenience and
cost-effectiveness.

PART 2
A sample essay
When it comes to traveling, whether by train or plane, each mode of
transport offers its own set of advantages and drawbacks. From my
perspective, I perceive traveling by train as more convenient and
cost-effective.
One of the main advantages of train travel is its convenience. Train
stations are often located in city centers, making them easily accessible
without the need for long commutes to airports. Additionally, trains tend
to have frequent departures, providing flexibility in travel schedules.
Booking train tickets is usually straightforward, requiring minimal hassle
compared to the sometimes complex process of booking flights.
Furthermore, traveling by train is often more cost-effective. Train
tickets are generally cheaper than plane tickets, especially for shorter
distances. Additionally, there are often fewer additional fees associated
with train travel, such as baggage fees or seat selection charges.
While trains may not offer the same speed as planes for long-distance
travel, they make up for it with a more comfortable and relaxed journey.
There's ample legroom, the ability to move around freely, and the
opportunity to enjoy scenic views along the way.
In conclusion, while both train and plane travel have their advantages,
I prefer traveling by train due to its convenience and affordability.
