Design a CMOS Inverter
Objective: To design the mask layout of a CMOS Inverter using Micorwind.
Tool: Microwind.
Theory: A CMOS inverter is a fundamental building block in digital circuits, performing the
logic operation of NOT. It takes a single input and outputs its inverse. The beauty of CMOS
inverters lies in their simplicity and efficiency, making them crucial for modern integrated
circuits.
A CMOS inverter consists of two complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor
Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) which includes:
● NMOS (N-type): Conducts when its gate voltage is high and acts as a switch connecting
the output to ground.
● PMOS (P-type): Conducts when its gate voltage is low and acts as a switch connecting
the output to the power supply (VDD).
When the input voltage is high, the NMOS transistor turns ON, pulling the output down to
ground (logic 0). The PMOS transistor remains OFF, isolating the output from the power
supply.Conversely, when the input voltage is low, the NMOS transistor turns OFF, disconnecting
the output from ground. The PMOS transistor turns ON, connecting the output to the power
supply (logic 1).

Design Procedures:
● For designing the CMOS Inverter we follow the stick diagram of CMOS Inverter circuit,
which are given below:

● Then we create the mask layout of a CMOS Inverted circuit by following it’s standard
distance for reducing disturbance in the out using Microwind.
