2.2 Units of Credit

2.3 Relationship of this course to others

This internship is obligatory in a program majoring in Economics, Finance and Banking,

and Accounting. The internship is a prerequisite before fulfilling a thesis. Students MUST
study necessary specialized courses depending on their major before registering for the
internship (apply from intake 2022 and later), and MUST pass the internship to register for
the thesis.

This internship utilizes the knowledge of the courses that the students have learned from
their program major’s economics, finance and banking, and accounting.

2.4 Approach to the Internship

Employing the interactive learning and problem-based approach, the internship emphasizes
the interaction between the internship mentor and student. The student will seek to obtain
required materials and information, including job description, organization profiles,
progress/performance reports, etc. from the organization where the internship is taking
place to fully understand the context, nature of the work being conducted, organizational

structure and other relationships to facilitate the internship. Students will update and
discuss with both the internship mentor and lecturer responsible for the internship regularly
about the progress and effectiveness of the work being undertaken.

2.5 Role of lecturer

To assist in the success of the internship, the lecturer has the responsibility to maintain
close communication with the internship at least three times during the internship.
Communication can be in the form of a face-to-face meeting, phone call, email exchange,
or meeting via Zoom, Google Meet, MS Team, or other relevant media. The objective is to
ensure the internship is successful and the students can maximize their benefits and
performance.

3. COURSE AIMS AND OUTCOMES

3.1 Internship Aims

To gain practical working experience, the School of Economics, Finance, and Accounting
requires students to attend an internship program. This internship allows students to apply
knowledge and skills acquired from learning from their program major at the School of
Economics, Finance, and Accounting to practice and solve real problems, otherwise, the
internship will fail. This is an opportunity for students to apply what they have learned in
a real-world context. This will help students to consolidate their learning and experience
professionalism in an actual context as a good preparation for future careers. Specifically,
the internship will aim at the following objectives:

• Assist students' development of employer-valued skills such as teamwork,

communications, and other soft skills.
• Expose students to real-life environments and expectations of performance in
professional careers.
• Enhance and/or expand students' knowledge and skills by practicing them in real-
life contexts.
• Expose the students to professional role models or mentors who will provide the
student with support in the early stages of their career path and provide an example
of the behaviors expected in the intern's workplace.

practices in
• CLO1. Consolidating theoretical fundamentals that have been taught into practice.

4. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONDUCT

4.1 Workload

It is required that students spend 3 months during the entire internship period. This time
should be made up of reading, research, and working on tasks in agreement and allocated
by the student’s mentor and supervisor/lecturer.

4.2 Attendance

Regular and punctual attendance at the place where the internship is taking place is
expected. University regulations indicate that if students receive complaints in writing from
their student’s mentor, their internship will be considered a failure.

4.3 General Conduct and Behavior

The students are expected to behave well and respect the culture as well as the internship
mentor and staff members at the workplace.

4
BA153IU VNU – International University
Internship School of Economics, Finance, and Accounting

The students are not allowed to take more than 24 credits for the main terms and 12 credits
for the summer term (including internship).

4.4 Keeping Informed

The students should maintain regular communications with both the students’ internship
mentor and lecturer. The university lecturer responsible for the internship will maintain
close communication with the student’s internship mentor to exchange information and
discuss how to improve the student's performance for the internship. Within the first week
of the internship period, students will have the responsibility to provide contact details of
the internship mentor to the secretary of the School of Economics, Finance, and Accounting
responsible for the internship for communication.

4.5 Reporting

Every student is required to write an Internship Report upon completion of their internship.
This report is shared with the internship mentor and lecturer for approval. Reports usually
go through multiple rounds of revision in collaboration with the internship mentor and the
lecturer. This is a formal report that could be shared with others at the internship site.

The Internship Report serves multiple purposes:

• Help the student develop written communication skills.
• Serve as an archival record of the internship experience.
• Allow the student to reflect on the professional aspects of the internship experience
and the skills that were learned.
• Allow the student to describe the science content of the internship.
• Have the student reflect on the initial goals of the internship and how they were (or
were not) achieved during the internship.

Each Internship Report will follow the format described in the appendix.

5. INTERNSHIP ASSESSMENT

5.1 Formal Requirements

To pass this internship, the students must:
• Prepare the internship assessment (using the Student Internship Evaluation Form),
approve it by the student's internship mentor, and include a company stamp. This
assessment must be submitted on time. Failure to do this properly means a failure
of the entire internship.
• Maintain at least three meetings with the appointed lecturer using the meeting
minutes form below, otherwise, the internship will fail.
• Prepare an internship report as outlined in the appendix for marking.
• The internship report must be submitted on time as scheduled. The late submission
will be penalized 5 points per day.

Internship School of Economics, Finance, and Accounting

5.2 Marking criteria (individual report)

See the appendix for report structure and marking scales. To pass the internship, the student
must achieve at least 50 points out of a total of 100 points.

5.3 Special Consideration

A request for special consideration (in the case of force majeure) must be made to the
Office of Academic Affairs. The Office will consider this on a case-by-case basis.

6. ACADEMIC HONESTY AND PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is the presentation of the thoughts or work of another as one’s own (definition
proposed by the University of Newcastle). Students are also reminded that careful time
management is an important part of your internship and one of the identified causes of
plagiarism is poor time management. Students should allow sufficient time for report
writing. The university regards plagiarism as a form of academic misconduct and has
stringent rules regarding plagiarism.1

Criteria for acceptance of the final report in this regard is that the similarity index
must be lower or equal to 20% of total sources and lower or equal to 2% for a single
source.

The report must be checked for Turnitin by the instructor/lecturer, the results signed
by the instructor, and be attached after the last page of the report.
