Chapter 2 Brief Introduction

2.1 Software version

Software name: DentaFilm Dental CBCT Software

Released version of software: DFT 1.0

2.2 Use of software

This software is the digital image processing system software of

DFT-4D-COMMANDER Dental Cone-Beam Computed Tomography, which is used
for dental CBCT, panoramic dentition, panoramic TMJ, lateral imaging and image
management.

2.3 Run the software

This software runs on the computer system, after the software is installed, click the
software icon directly to display the main interface, and the user can perform
corresponding operations.

2.4 Software algorithm

The cone beam FDK reconstruction algorithm is used, which is an analytical

reconstruction algorithm. It has high reconstruction accuracy and fast reconstruction

2
User Manual

speed for complete and low-noise data. The equipment performs 360-degree scanning
around the patient, collects projection data in all directions, weights the projection
data, performs one-dimensional line filtering, and then obtains three-dimensional
volume image through back-projection processing according to the geometric
relationship of the system imaging. The FDK algorithm is used to image the
three-dimensional anatomical structure information of different parts of the dental
cavity, and can be used for dental clinical applications such as dental implantation and
dental diagnosis.

2.5 System Requirements

The computer (including the monitor) is provided by the user. Workstation software

5.2.3 Curved plane tomography (panoramic manual dental arch line)

All DICOM data in the Z-axis direction is sampled along the panoramic dental arch
line to form a space surface, and then the space surface is stretched to form a
two-dimensional plane panorama. The panoramic image can reflect the upper and
lower dental arches and their surrounding structures, and is an important tool for
evaluating the presence or absence, morphological structure, eruption sequence and
spatial relationship of tooth.
The slice image refers to the image that is cut from the vertical direction along the
currently selected position of the dental arch line. The default selected position is the
midpoint of the dental arch line. The slice image is used by the doctor to observe the
image details around the dental arch line. There will be multiple slice images due to
multiple tangent lines in the software. For example, to observe the internal details of
tooth, it is necessary to use the slice image to divide the tooth into multiple slices, and
observe the status and changes of each slice.
User can manually draw the panoramic dental arch line. Click the "manual curved
plane tomography" button in the image tool, then click the left mouse in the cross

 Delete curved plane reconstruction point: click left mouse to select the point to be
deleted, and then click "delete" on the keyboard to delete it.
Before adjust:

After adjust:

 Curved plane reconstruction layer thickness adjustment:

 The curved plane tomography is a straight line along the z direction, but the
normal upper dentition and lower dentition are not on the same straight line,
so the single-layer panorama cannot completely display the upper and lower
dentition at the same time.
 Along the direction of the dental arch line, some teeth cannot be displayed in
the single-layer panorama because not all teeth are exactly on the dental arch
line.
For the above reasons, the software takes a certain thickness inside and outside the

49
User Manual

vertical direction of the dental arch line, and superimposes the pixel values within
these thicknesses to take the average value as the pixel value in the panorama. Adjust
the layer thickness of the curved plane tomography and display the panorama, which
is convenient for the doctor to observe whole condition and make reasonable
diagnosis.

Click the "Thick" button, move the slider to an appropriate position, and release the
slider to complete the adjustment.

tissue mode and custom mode. The custom mode is set to grayscale image by
default.
The software colors the four modes with different colors according to the CT
values of tooth, skeletal, and soft tissue, among which the custom mode can
customize the coloring scheme. The doctor can select different modes to
focus on and browse the key part of the image.

5.2.6 Neural canal module

1. Add neural line in multi-plane reconstruction

The inferior alveolar neural canal is located in the mandible along the lower
anterior ramus of the mandible. The neural canal is closely related to the
mandibular posterior teeth and its position in the jaw is very important in various
surgical operations. The distance between the tip of the dental implant and the
upper edge of the inferior alveolar nerve canal should be 2-4 mm. In the case of
insufficient bone at the implant site, the length of the implant should be
controlled at 10 mm or less to avoid damage to the inferior alveolar nerve. The
labeling of neural canal has important guiding significance for dental clinic.

 Adjust the cross line in the multi-plane reconstruction interface and adjust the
slice window to the position of the nerve line.

62
User Manual

 Click on "Nerve" button.
