Monochromatic Colors (vocabulary)

► One color plus the lights and darks of that color.


► Referred to as tints (lights) and shades (darks)

Value Scale – Range of the values of a color in order


from light to dark (or dark to light)
Material Choice 1 – Tempera/Acrylic Paint

paints on (it can be disposable)

► Make sure to keep your colors
separate once you make them so
you can use them over and over
► Use water to gradually reduce
the pigment and make the tints
► Use more pigment (little water)
for the darkest value
► You can use a tiny amount of black
or a complementary color to make a
deeper value

so you can activate the paint.
► Use water to gradually reduce
the pigment and make the tints

black/brown or a complementary
color to make a deeper value

will draw a sketch of the object and practice creating
