Tutorial 1
Getting Start with ADS
In this tutorial I created new work space in ADS and then I created new schematic file in it as
shown in figure below.

Tutorial 2

S-parameter Simulation and Lumped component Impedance matching using

smith chart utility
 First I made schematic of resistor capacitor parallel circuit, terminated
both ports with them with load, placed S-parameter control on
schematic and set frequency range from 0.1GHz to 1 GHz with step size
of 1 MHz.
 Then from data displayed window I plotted S11 in dB scale and place a
marker on curve.

 From the result It was observed that ports are not matched so smith chart utility is
used to match the circuit. Short circuit Inductor is placed in parallel while capacitor
is placed in series and with the help of smith chart utility there value are so this
matching circuit help to match our circuit with 50 ohm terminated port. Results are
figure below.
Tutorial 3

Microstrip line stub Impedance matching using smith chart utility and Line Calc
Tool
 In this tutorial we have to match 202-140j Ohm load impedance with 50
Ohm source impedance using microstrip line.
 Smith chart utility is used for matching purpose, first series microstrip is
placed and then short circuited microstrip shunt stub is used to match
load with source.
 From the smith chart utility it is evaluated that a series microstrip of 50
Ohm with electrical length of 61 degree and short circuited shunt stub of
50 Ohm impedance with electrical length of 25.9 degree will give us
good matching of load with soruce.
 Then line calculator tool is used to calculate the required length and
width of microstrip line. At fr4 substrate with thickness of 1.5mm

 Schematic is drawn from the evaluated values and the results show good matching of
load with source

Tutorial 4
Tuning and optimization
 In this tutorial port 2 is terminated with 202-j140 Ohm impedance, and
series microstrip line open circuited shunt microstrip line is used to
match load with 50Ohm port one but results show s11 above -5 dB.
 Then 2 different approaches are used to get the desired results in first stage tune
parameter option is used for match and good matching between port of 50 Ohm and
load of 202-j140 Ohm is achieved. Results are shown in following figure

 In the second stage optimization tool is used to achieve matching between load and
port at 2GHz , results show good matching as S11 is below -20dB at 2GHz.
