Unit 1: What Makes a Material World
Key Concept: Change
Related Concepts: Models and Patterns
AKA Strand: Pluralism
Statement of Inquiry: By changing matter, we can identify patterns
in properties that help us to make models that help us invent new
kinds of material.

Effect of Concentration on rate of reaction
Objective:
How Changing the Concentration of Hydrochloric Acid Affects the Rate of
Reaction with Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate)
Task Overview:
In this investigation, you will explore how altering the concentration of
hydrochloric acid influences the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid
(HCl) and calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) in the form of powder. The rate of
reaction will be measured by recording the time taken for the reaction to
stop (e.g., no more visible bubbles or gas production). Concentration is one
of the factors that affect the rate of reaction. You are required to research
and find out other factors that affect the rate of reaction as this will help you
in identifying the control variables and suggesting an extension to the
investigation.
You will apply the principles of Criterion B (Inquiring and designing) and
Criterion C (Processing and evaluating) throughout the investigation.
