Supply Chain of Ice-cream Companies :
Supply chain management, is basically a process of managing the raw materials from
manufacturing to the delivery of products to the customers. In this scenario, the new product ‘Ice-
cream' logistic model is to be discussed. The whole process consists of several factors including
how the ice-cream is made, ensure that all the products maintain the quality as the product comes
from manufacturing site to the distribution centre to the retailers and then to the consumers. Not
only the ingredients and flavouring; the cold chain management and the good sanitation system
are the main key factors of the ice-cream supply chain. The ice-cream supply chain should be very
managed actively and well equipped with quick delivery.
The overall ice-cream supply chain should be consisting of the following model:
A demand is generated from customers, they decide to purchase their desired product from the
specific company. The ice-cream company should manufacture the product as per the customer's
demand.
How much product should be manufacture this will be done by the planning department
by keeping the customers demand on focus?
The purchasing department may receive the raw material order and they will proceed as
per the demand of the production department.
Inventory management department check the quality and accuracy of the raw material
which is received from the suppliers and send to the warehouse.
The production department will manufacture the desired product and move the
warehouse
The warehouse of the ice-cream factory should be near to the production plant due to the
characteristic of the product i.e., need cold storage.
 Transportation department will be responsible to move the product from warehouse to the
desired retailers, etc by maintaining the temperature of the product.
Logistics System:
Logistics mentions the procedure of handling in what way resources are assimilated, stored and
transported. Here, is the overall process o the logistic system of the new product:
Processing of Order:
When a customer places an order this should be done properly in an efficient way from the
manufacturing till delivering by ensuring that there should be no problem in manufacturing,
machinery and preparation for the customers
Inventory Management:
All the raw materials and stock should be available in the production site and it should manage
properly. It is most important step because ice-cream needs a certain temperature so that the
product should not be damaged in the production area.

Warehousing:
The most important mechanism in the supply chain is warehouse which is required to run any
business or company to store the products which are in access and which are prepared in excess
for selling. In ice-cream factory the cold storage is required to store the product and to keep it for
selling so warehouse should have capacity to keep the extra product.
Transport:
Transport is reared to transfer the products from one place to other from the company to the
warehouse to the customers
Logistical and Information System:
Logistical packing means packing of the item and moving the item to the desired outlets which
implies that the item should appropriately packed and shipping or moving the items where it is
sold. The information system of any company is the system where the data is moved from the
buyer to the organization and from the worker to the top of the organization to realize that the
organization is running in an efficient way and to know what the purchaser looks for from the
organization and to see that what new thing or changes is required in the organization to go further
and increment the organization creation and increment the development of the organization.
Ware House Planning: Design and Key Features
In supply chain, product storage or warehousing play an important role and it will impact the
overall supply chain network of any product.
To start a new set up like in above scenario ice-cream. The company requires the storage or
warehouse to keep the product. The choice of warehouse plays an important impact on the
services, efficiency, cost. To satisfy a customer demand and provide them better service is one of
the crucial parts of any business. Customer wants quick delivery of product so it is good if
warehouse is near to the customers or it has facilities to fulfil the preferred demand of the
customers
What you should consider for Warehouse?
The warehouse setup may depend on the design and capacity. There are different features which
should be consider for any warehouse for instance receiving, storage, delivery orders and also on
the distribution’s strategy. customer services. low cost. inventor availability and
time. Equipment facility how would you process the overall system of the company. In addition,
the inbound logistics should also be considered, where the suppliers are located, how the lead time
for incoming deliveries are managed and reliability of the suppliers.
Which type of product you keep in warehouse have a significant impact. how you store
the product on floor or in racking, product hazardous and if product needs special handling, if the
product needs temperature control etc
Warehousing of Ice-cream Company:
The ice-cream warehouse management system are designed to lessen the movement of product in
freezers and to maintain the temperature, to achieve the overall inventory, measure the
workflow and to manage the returns, receiving and picking of the product. In the cold storage
warehouse the energy and the workflow efficiency are the primary features to lessen lower the
product damage. The overall warehouse management may help the company to run
the system smoothly and to meet the cold chain operations and the customer's demands.
The cold chain operations company warehouse depends of store layout. The warehouse layout may
assist the retailers in understanding how much revenue per square foot they can make. The purpose
of the warehouse is to store and control the company stock for organization, production and for
the sale of the products, it is important to do the efficient and correct planning of the warehouse
design or layout is of crucial significance for organizations.

The layout or design of the warehouse should be according to the distribution of the product by
keeping in view the external and internal space.
As the product is ice-cream so depending on the type of the product the stock inflow and
outflow strategy is decided.
Cold room is required within 100 meters of the company.
Temperature should be maintained by - 18°C and -25° to maintain the quality
and flavours of the ice-cream.
The interior and exterior of the warehouse
How many floors should be in the warehouse according to the product.
Electric installations, ventilation systems, safety etc.
Logistics of Ice-cream Factory:
The logistics processes may consider several factors while setting a cold chain environment with
temperature setting, the company require the guidelines, equipment's and the cold-chain strategy.
The product should be shipped to the customers quickly with the automation warehouse
technology. The logistics ad material services should be in warehouse so that there would
be no delay occur in transferring a product to the customers.
How Companies are handling the Warehouse Problems:
The ice cream supply chain starts with the manufacture then to transport in a refrigerated
truck. The trucks are cooled before to ensure that the ice-cream may be transported according
to the FDA guidelines. After that the product is unloaded to the cold storage where
the temperature-controlled conditions are available until the product is picked and then
transported to the retailers and consumers
The Ice Cream companies in a world make sure that the it is integral part to maintain the
cold chain to ensure the good quality and safety. They maintain the cold-storage warehouse
to overcome the shortage, they optimize the raw material flow by installing the warehouse
automation equipment with the automation system the companies are able to maintain
storage, decrease the number of errors and reduce the working conditions.
Automated pallet storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) are used to transfer the products
in and out of the cold-storage system rapidly. With the cranes or shuttles system the products
are moved from warehouse.
The companies in order to avoid the delays in order picking by introducing the automated
order picking system

I do not have access to real-world data on specific companies. Therefore, I cannot provide a direct
comparison between real companies and a model. However, models are developed based on
