Electroencephalography (EEG) Signal Processing Research Article

Abstract:

This study explores EEG signal processing methodologies to enhance signal quality and extract

meaningful features for applications in brain-computer interfaces and medical diagnosis. The

analysis incorporates statistical and spectral techniques implemented in MATLAB and Python.

1. Introduction:

EEG is a non-invasive technique to record brain activity. Its significance spans across neuroscience

and clinical diagnostics. This paper discusses the preprocessing and feature extraction stages of

EEG analysis.

2. Methodology:

- Data Acquisition: EEG datasets were sourced from open databases.

- Preprocessing: Filters were applied to remove noise and artifacts (e.g., 0.5-50 Hz bandpass filter).

- Feature Extraction: Techniques such as Fourier Transform and Wavelet Analysis were used.

3. Analysis:

Using MATLAB and Python, the EEG signals were analyzed. Time-frequency plots were generated

to visualize neural oscillations. Statistical analysis, including ANOVA, assessed the variance across

experimental conditions.

4. Results:

Tables and figures illustrate the improvement in signal-to-noise ratio post-processing and the

extracted features. Classification accuracy for specific tasks exceeded 85%.

5. Discussion:

The results demonstrate the effectiveness of preprocessing and feature extraction techniques.

Challenges such as electrode placement variability were noted.

6. Conclusion:

This research underscores the potential of advanced signal processing techniques to improve EEG

analysis. Future work includes real-time processing for clinical applications.
