Vanessa talks about her mum* and dad and brother, Teddy

Instructions: Read the text aloud.

Sally: Ah … this is the best coffee with the smallest hint of cinnamon! I always
have black coffee in the morning. I missed the coffee here.
Vanessa: I often drink tea ... you know that's the finest of British traditions.
Sally: How is your family by the way?
Vanessa: Aunt Nelly is good, zany as ever. She's in a creative phase knitting and
weaving.
Sally: Does she usually do crafts?
Vanessa: She does from time to time.
Sally: My sister sews once in a while. My niece and nephew are loud and usually
run her ragged. She adores them.
Vanessa: My house was hardly ever noisy. Mum, Dad and Teddy are all bookish and
the quietest people I know. I'm the black sheep.
Sally: Black what?
Vanessa: Black sheep. The most different from the others. What about your family?
Sally: Mom is the sweetest person. She never gets upset or angry. I see her
whenever I can. Dad is a bit grumpy once in a while. They both come from
larger families so I have lots of cousins.

You use a superlative adjective to express the highest degree of a quality.

You use a superlative adjective to talk about one thing or person in a group of things. You
always use the with the superlative.
Superlatives can be regular or irregular. The structure of the regular superlative is:
the + adjective-est

the most adjective

Habits and Routines

When you talk about someone's habits and routines, you use the Simple Present tense and
frequency words.

You use expressions of frequency to say how many times you do an activity.
This can be an adverb like often, sometimes or never. It can also be expression like a lot, all
the time or when I can.

Adverbs Expressions

sometimes once in a while

occasionally from time to time

hardly ever when ...

Examples:
