extending the drive
Login to the server (RDP) check the disk space by opening the disk management as shown below;
In the above case, we are going to add 300GB additional space to the drive E:/ as per approval.
VC screenshot;
From the above pic of VC, you can see as said earlier, the drive C is hard disk 1, hard disk 2 is drive F,
hard disk 3 is drive E, and hard disk 4 is drive D
It is now currently 600GB, we are going to add 300GB more to it, so it should be overall 900GB after
adding the space.
Now when the edit window opens, select the hard disk that you need to add space (in this case hard disk
3)
On the right side of the panel, you can see the “provisioned size” 600GB, now you can directly make it
by manually typing 900 or you can just keep clicking the up arrow next to 600Gb until it shows 900GB
Once you have made it 900GB, click on “ok” button available at the bottom of the window
The task will run and you can notice the progress in “recent tasks”
Now once the VC task of adding the additional space is done
Go to the actual server (which had taken RDP earlier) to see the disk management
Here you need to rescan the disks, as shown in below figure. (click on “action tab” from drop down
menu click “rescan disks”
You can now see there is a space available next to the disk drive for which you have added the space in
VC
Now right click the disk drive, as shown below and click on “extend volume”
A window will open, and you can see it will show the total volume available to extend.
In this case, we must extend 300Gb, so we will keep the volume shown as it is and click on next
Click on finish.
Now you can see the disk drive has total size as 900Gb and free space as
