I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners should be able to demonstrate understanding of volcanoes found in the Philippines.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to participate in activities that reduce risk and lessen effects of natural phenomenon such as volcanic
eruption.
C. Learning Competency/ Differentiate between active and inactive volcanoes
Objectives At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1. describe the feature and characteristics of active and inactive volcanoes;
Write the LC code for each. 2. identify examples of active and inactive volcanoes through images, maps or descriptions;
3. value the importance of monitoring active and inactive volcanoes to ensure safety and preparedness.
II. Greetings
Good morning class! How are you today! We’re doing great Ma’am.
That’s great to hear.
Before taking your seat kindly arrange your chairs properly, keep away Thank you Ma’am.
unnecessary things from your desk and pick up the pieces of trash that
you can see.
III. Attendance
Before we start, may I ask if anyone is absent today? None Ma’am, we’re complete.
Very Good! Let’s get started with our lesson.

For me Ma’am, the first picture shows that the volcano is erupting violently,
while the second picture, the volcano might have some activity inside but
not visible or easily spotted just by looking from afar. Maybe when scientist
look closely or analyze the materials emitted from the volcano.
Let us now check the volcano concept map that you did yesterday. Who (A student raised a hand.)
can share their answers? My answers are: a volcano is a landform that release hot gases, lava
and melting rocks. It is a huge landform. It is composed of layers of
cooled lava, ashes and rocks. It also has different shapes and types. It
can be dangerous to humans, animals and properties.
For the first one, what do we have here? I think the word that is being defined is an active volcano.
Very Good! The first one is an active volcano. The second one is an inactive volcano based on the definition.
How about the second one?
For the next one, we have the following definition. The next definition describes an eruption Ma’am.
We have here the following guide questions that will be answered at the
end of our discussion.
Guide Questions:
1, How will you classify the volcanoes that have records of eruptions?
2. How will you classify volcanoes with no record of eruption?

time for us to be prepared since we can never tell when volcanic

After learning about the classification of volcanoes based on their
activity. I have prepared here questions about active and inactive
volcanoes. Raise your hand if you want to answer.
Direction: The following statements has two true statements and one
bluff statement. Determine which statement is a lie.
Okay! Who can answer the first one? A student raised their hand.
How about the next one? The lie is, “All active volcanoes erupt every year.” Because according to
the discussion some active volcanoes can stay inactive for years or even
Characteristics of Volcanoes decades before erupting again.
Active Volcanoes often have visible fumaroles and steaming
vents.
Inactive volcanoes may erode over time and lose their distinct
cone shape.
All volcanoes erupt every year.
How about if you are put into these given scenarios, what should be your
appropriate response?
Open-ended questions: I would explain that Mount Pinatubo was considered inactive because it
had no recorded eruptions for centuries, but it erupted in 1991 due to

being caught off guard.
Great! It seems that you have thoroughly understand our topic for today.
G. Finding practical application of (Understand)
concepts and skills in daily living Answer the following questions related to understanding the
(2 minutes) classifications of volcanoes.

safe.
2. In what ways can inactive volcanoes benefit agriculture and tourism Inactive volcanoes have fertile soil for farming and attract tourists for
industries? hiking and sightseeing, boosting the local economy.
3. Why is it important to monitor even inactive volcanoes in areas with Inactive volcanoes can become active again due to tectonic movement,
shifting tectonic plates? so monitoring them helps predict and prevent unexpected eruptions.
