1. GENERAL

1.1 PURPOSE

This calculation is prepared to verify the capacity of Generator Unit Transformer

[11BAT01GT001~14BAT01GT001] with 904 MVA (ODAF) previously selected capacity are
adequate for satisfactory operation of the Jeddah South Thermal Power Plant (JSTPP).

1.2 CODES AND STANDARD

This calculation comply with the latest revision or edition of the following applicable codes and
standards based on SEC-GP-001-R3.
 IEC 60076 : Power Transformers
 IEEE C 57.116 : IEEE Guide for Transformers Directly Connected to Generators

2. ASSUMPTION

1) Ambient Temperature : 5℃~ 50℃ (according to ITB vol. 2 Technical Schedules – refer to

attachment #3)

2) The calculation is made when the Steam Turbine generator are operated with its rated voltage

Rated voltage on LV side of GUT : 26kV

3) The Transformer rating shall allow for the full generator utilization (both lag and lead).

4) The house load supplied power plant auxiliary transformer is disregarded

5) The impedance of transformer is 14%@904MVA

6) Tolerances of the transformer impedance is 0% ~ +10% at principal tap

(Refer to attachment 4 MOM dated 24/25, July. 2013)

7) The Output of transformer is calculated by followed generator operation mode

 Case 1 : 0.85PF lagging : PG(MW) + j{PG(MW) x tan(cos-1 0.85)}(MVAR)

 Case 2 : 1.0PF : PG(MW) + j0.0(MVAR)

 Case 3 : 0.95 leading : PG(MW) + j{PG(MW) x tan(-cos-1 0.95)}(MVAR)

8) The transformer will be equipped with number of cooler assemblies to dissipate total losses consisting
of no-load losses and the load losses of the transformer at 1.15 p.u full load at the tap with the highest

load losses, without exceeding a hottest spot temperature of 98°C at a design Ambient temperature of
50°C. (according to SEC Standard requested in Addendum 12 – refer to attachment #6)

3. SIZING CRITERIA

- Case 1 : 0.85PF lagging : PG(MW) + j{PG(MW) x tan(cos-1 0.85)}(MVAR)

- Case 2 : 1.0PF : PG(MW) + j0.0(MVAR)

5.2 Calculation based on IEC standard

In case of IEC standard, transformer sizing is calculated based on transformer input.

PT : Turbine Output(MW), PMECH PG : Generator Gross Output(MW), PGROSS

PN : Generator Net Output(MW), PNET ST : Transformer Input(MVA)

 PG = PT – Generator loss = 751.6MW – approx. 8MW = 743.6MW

 PN = PG – Excitation loss = 743.6MW – approx. 3MW = 740.6MW
 ST = PN / Power factor
(refer to attachment #5 STG Vendor E-mail for Generator Output)

1) Case 1 : Generator Operation at Rated MW and Rated Power factor (pf : 0.85)
* ST = PN / Power factor = 740.6MW/0.85 = 871.3MVA

2) Case 2 : Generator Operation at Unity Power factor (pf : 1.0)

* ST = PN / Power factor = 740.6MW/1.0 = 740.6MVA

Subject: RE: [JSTPP] Request for STG capability (phase arrangement)

Dear Sirs,

When turbine output is maximum (751.6MW), the generator output (not capability) is as follows;

<Calculation condition>
Turbine output : 751.6MW
Power factor : 0.85

<Calculation result>
Generator gross output = Turbine output - Generator loss
743.6MW = 751.6MW - approx. 8MW

Generator net output = Generator gross output - Excitation loss

740.6MW = 743.6MW - approx. 3MW

Generator net capacity = Generator net output / 0.85

= 871.3MVA ⇒ say 872MVA
