1. Purpose:
• Test your knowledge in understand the fundamentals of signals and systems in both
discrete time and continuous time domains and their representatives in practice (CLO 1.1,
1.2).
• Test your knowledge, skill in understand basic signals operations such as convolution,
correlation and signal shifting in both continuous and discrete time domains , and Fourier
series (CLO 1.1, 1.2).
2. Requirement:
• This is closed book examination. Students are allowed to bring 1 A4 paper note.
• The usage of any electronic devices (laptop, electronic dictionary, cell phones…) is strictly
PROHIBITED.

QUESTIONS
Q1. (25 marks)

Given the function x1 ( t ) and x2 ( t ) in Figure 1

a) Express x2 ( t ) in terms of x1 ( t )

b) Determine the properties of x1 ( t ) : symmetry, periodicity, bounded, causality, time limited

c) Use unit-step functions to find a single expression for x2 ( t )

d) Plot x3 ( t ) = 2 x1 ( 2t + 3)

e) Calculate the energy of x1 ( t )

Consider a LTI system with frequency response
