Preparation

Power Requirements for the Front-End Devices


The Front-End Devices include:
• SCS WORKSTATION
• MONITOR
– Located on the MARKING ENGINE
• Support for up to 3 Peripheral Devices
– Ethernet HUB
– MODEM
1. The power should always be applied to the PRINTER unless the System is de-
energized in a controlled manner as defined by the manufacturer.
2. An OUTLET STRIP with a separate LINE CORD supplies power from the WALL
OUTLET. The country where the equipment is installed defines the requirements
for the WALL OUTLET.
3. A standard 6-OUTLET POWER STRIP is shipped with each MARKING
ENGINE, along with an appropriate POWER CORD. When using a PAPER
SUPPLY MODULE, install the POWER OUTLET onto the PAPER SUPPLY
MODULE.
4. Individual ZIPPER TUBES cover the CABLES to the FRONT-END
COMPONETS.

Power Requirements for the Scanning Station


The Scanning Station includes:
• 65 PPM SCANNER
• NT WORKSTATION
• 17-INCH MONITOR
• Support for up to 3 Peripheral Devices
1. Apply power to the WORKSTATION at all times, except when the System is de-
energized in a method specified by the manufacturer.

Preparation

Uncrate the Marking Engine

The IMAGE LOOP is new and is sensitive to light. Protect it from light during
installation to allow for the use of this IMAGE LOOP.

1. Remove the:
a. CARDBOARD from the outside of the MARKING ENGINE SHIPPING
CONTAINER (If not already done.)
b. PLASTIC COVER
c. PROTECTIVE COVER.
2. Check all assemblies for damage.

5. Lock the CASTORS in position.
6. Remove the:
a. CABLE TIES and TAPE from the POWER CABLE.

7. Cut the WIRE TIE from around the CYCLONE AND BRACKET AY.
8. Remove:
a. CABLE TIES from the WRITER CABLES. Route the CABLES through the
hole in the left end.
b. All CABLE TIES, TAPE, and packing material from the rear of the process
side.

If you are installing a replacement POWER CABLE, use the Eos Replacement
Procedure H2RO3.

1. If the SWING ARM has 3 CABLES extending from it, use the procedure on this
page.
2. If the SWING ARM has 2 CABLES extending from it, use the procedure on
page 16.

Installing the Monitor onto a Swing Arm with 3 Cables extending from it
1. Remove the LARGE LOCKING SCREW from the SWING ARM as shown.
2. Reverse the direction of the LARGE LOCKING SCREW in the threaded hole.

a. Slide the upper CAP toward the TILT COVER to provide access for gripping
the CAP.
b. Lift up to remove.
c. Pull down on the lower CAP.
5. Do the following:
a. Remove the 4 SCREWS.
b. Lower the TILT COVER.

6. Install the MONITOR.


a. Remove the 4 SCREWS from the holes in the sides of the MOUNT.
b. While holding onto the MONITOR, route the VIDEO CABLE through the
hole in the MOUNT and down through the SWING ARM TUBE into the
MARKING ENGINE.
c. Install the MONITOR onto the MOUNT. Use the 4 SCREWS from the
MOUNT.33

Install the Channels and the Power Strip


1. Do the following:.

If the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE (PSM) is being installed, see the “PAPER
SUPPLY MODULE” section of this Installation Instruction, page 86.
If the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE is not being installed, continue with step 2.

2. Install the following:


a. 3 plastic WIRE CHANNEL AYs using the existing SCREWS
b. POWER STRIP using the existing SCREWS
c. MONITOR POWER CORD into the POWER STRIP

1. Open the 2 TOP COVERS.
2. Remove:
a. All the CABLE TIES from the INVERTER

LOWER RETURN TRANSPORT

1. Remove the:
– FOAM BLOCK from the 3 PAPER SUPPLY LATCHES.
– 6 CABLE TIES from the 3 PAPER SUPPLIES. (2 in each PAPER SUPPLY)
– TAPE from the front of the VERTICAL TRANSPORT.

2. Press down on the PAPER SUPPLY PLATFORM and remove the BUBBLE
PACK from between each PAPER SUPPLY PLATFORM and FEED HEAD.

1. Remove the PACKING MATERIAL from these areas:


– TONING STATION HARNESS P5101.
– Above the OIL BOTTLE. Check that the OIL LINE is primed with OIL.
– The WRITER CABLES
2. Remove the RETAINERS from the MOUNTING STUDS for the PRE-CLEAN
and PRIMARY CHARGERS.

Keyboard
1. Release the LATCH between the TOP-LEFT COVER and the UPPER
INVERTER.
2. Install the KEYBOARD TRAY.
a. Use the SCREWS supplied to install the LEFT SIDE KEYBOARD
SUPPORT.
b. Loosen the SCREW holding the STRAIN RELIEF.
c. Install the Velcro material onto the right side of the KEYBOARD and the
KEYBOARD TRAY. This will hold the KEYBOARD in position when raising
the TRAY.
d. Route the KEYBOARD CABLE through the hole in the KEYBOARD TRAY
and through the TOP LEFT COVER.
e. Install the KEYBOARD onto the Velcro in the KEYBOARD TRAY.
f. Install the KEYBOARD TRAY.
g. Use the SCREWS supplied to install the RIGHT SIDE KEYBOARD
SUPPORT.
h. Route the KEYBOARD CONNECTOR as shown in the following illustration.
i. Connect the KEYBOARD CONNECTOR to the CONNECTOR BOARD.
j. Move the KEYBOARD TRAY and the KEYBOARD AY completely forward.
k. Rotate the STRAIN RELIEF to hold the KEYBOARD CABLE.

Install the Power Supplies and the Cables


1. When installing a Sun Ultra™ 10 SCS, observe the following Caution:

Possible damage to the SCS from incorrect voltage.

2. For the Sun Ultra™ 10 only, do the following:


a. Configure the VOLTAGE SWITCH according to the LABEL.
b. Connect the SCS POWER CABLE to the POWER STRIP, only.
c. Remove the 115/230V VOLTAGE SWITCH LABEL.

Failure to configure the VOLTAGE SWITCH for the correct setting for the installation
site, or connecting the SCS POWER CABLE to the MIP POWER CABLE location on
the MARKING ENGINE, will cause permanent damage to the SCS.

If the 115/230V SWITCH is not present between the RECEPTACLE and the POWER
SWITCH, the SCS will operate using either voltage.

15. Perform the Bypass Drive Coupling: Alignment F1A07 and do the following:
– Loosen the 7 SCREWS.
– Lower the BYPASS AY.

Paper Supply Module


Upon completion of the Installation of the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE, it is
important that you perform the following Checkout Steps:

• Perform the PAPER CROSSTRACK POTENTIOMETER: Adjustment J2A02 for


PAPER SUPPLIES 4, 5, and 6.
• Perform the PAPER INTRACK POTENTIOMETER: Adjustment J2A03 for
PAPER SUPPLIES 4, 5, and 6.
• Perform the AIRKNIFE: Pressure Adjustment J2A08 for the PAPER SUPPLY
MODULE. Check that the air pressure is within specification.
• Perform the Automatic Paper Supply 4-6: Timing Adjustment J2A12.

1. Remove the LEFT SIDE COVER from the MARKING ENGINE.


2. Remove and discard the 2 SCREWS and the RETAINER, if present.

3. Remove the following from the MARKING ENGINE and install onto the PAPER
SUPPLY MODULE in this same location:
– COVER (From the PAPER SUPPLY CONTROL BD)
– CLIP to the right of the COVER to lock the COVER in the closed position

4. From the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE, remove:


– SCREW
– GROUND STRAP
5. Install the GROUND STRAP onto the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE.

6. Move the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE next to the MARKING ENGINE.

7. Remove the REAR COVER from the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE.


8. Route the CABLES into the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE.
a. Use the white plastic CABLE TIES.
b. Connect the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE POWER CONNECTOR D5119P1 to
the MARKING ENGINE CONNECTOR H2103P22.
9. Install the 7 CONNECTORS.
– MIP EXTENSION POWER CABLE
– MONITOR EXTENSION POWER CABLE
– 4 CONNECTORS to the PAPER SUPPLY CONTROL BD
– CONNECTOR J2136J9 to CONNECTOR H1101P4.

10. Install the VERTICAL TRANSPORT DOOR by:


a. Loosening the SCREWS.
b. Inserting the HINGE of the DOOR under the SCREWS.
c. Closing the DOOR. This provides the correct alignment.
d. Tightening the SCREWS.
e. Connecting the CABLE to the VERTICAL TRANSPORT DOOR.

11. Move the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE near the MARKING ENGINE.

Check the INTERFACE CABLE CONNECTIONS are installed correctly as


you move the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE into its final position.

13. Adjust the 3 CASTORS to align the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE with the
MARKING ENGINE.
a. Remove the 2 LARGE BOLTS from the 2 BOLT BLOCKS.
b. Check that the 2 PINS align with the holes.
c. Check that the BOLT HOLES align with the BOLT BLOCKS.
14. Install the 2 LARGE BOLTS through the holes in the MARKING ENGINE into
the PAPER SUPPLY MODULE.
15. Install the 1 JACK AY under the left-front corner of the PAPER SUPPLY
MODULE.
a. Adjust it to the correct height.

PAPER SUPPLIES (2 in each PAPER SUPPLY).

Loading the Software for the Marking Engine and RIP

You have completed the hardware installation. You will be using other
documents as indicated in the following procedures to load the software.

1. Use the SCS Workstation Installation Tool Guide, Publication No.W836 W818-
1, to load the software.
2. Calibrate the TOUCHSCREEN MONITOR.
a. Use the instructions on the screen.
b. If the System is not accepting the calibration, cycle the power to the
MONITOR and repeat the procedure.

Loading the Software for the Scanner


1. Use the Scanner Workstation Installation Tool Guide, Publication No. W818-2.
a. For a new WORKSTATION, follow the instructions for the new hardware.
b. To reconfigure an existing computer for use as a SCANNER
WORKSTATION, follow the instructions for using existing equipment.

→ F5 - LOGIC and CONTROL / PD&C → Finisher Configuration

Overall Operation of the Printer


1. Operate the PRINTER.
2. Check that all ACCESSORIES operate correctly.
3. Check each print for artifacts.
4. Use Service Software Routine W1SS01 to inhibit the WRITER and provide a
white copy. Check for artifacts.
