NOUN
(IMPORTANT RULES)
Some nouns (with ‘s’) are always used as plural and take a plural verb.
Ex: species, alms, scissors, trousers, pants, annals, belongings, odds, fireworks,
goggles, earnings, sunglasses, clothes, surroundings, stairs etc.
The units of measurement can be used in singular and plural form.
If it is preceded by any numeral, it is always singular.
Ex: Hundred, thousand, dozen, pair, score etc.
One of, some of, each of, every of, either of, neither of, none of, either of, neither
of etc. take a plural noun after them.
There are some nouns which are always used in singular form but in plural
sense, so a plural verb is used with them.
Ex: cattle, clergy, cavalry, poultry, peasantry, children, gentry, cannon etc.
Some nouns are always used as singular though they look like plural. So we
should never use the ‘plural verb with them.
Ex: news, politics, mathematics, physics, gallows, means, billiards, ethics,
summons, innings, darts etc.
Some nouns are always used in singular . These are uncountable nouns. We
should not use article a/an with such nouns.
Ex: Scenery, poetry, furniture, advice, information, hair, business, mischief,
bread, stationery, crockery, luggage, baggage, knowledge, money, jewellery etc.
PRONOUN
(IMPORTANT RULES)
If more than one Personal pronouns of different persons are used together
in a sentence then the normal order is 231.
Note: The verb is always plural.

Ex: 1. You, he and I are playing chess.


2. I, you and she has passed the test.
3. You, he and I have finished work.
4. She, I and you should plant trees.
5. I and you have gone to abroad.
If more than one singular personal pronouns of different persons
are used in a sentence but the sense is of crime, flaw or confession
of a guilt then the normal order is 123. The verb is always plural.

Ex: 1. He, I and you have visited the Alipore zoo.


2. You, he and I have robbed the bank.
3. I and you are playing chess at home.
4. You and he is responsible for the loss.
An Objective case personal pronoun can not be the subject in a sentence.

Ex: 1. You and me are good school friends.


After “to be” form a verb, we use a pronoun in the subjective case only.

Ex: 1. It’s me who must take the responsibility.


Use of THAT (in place of “which”)

Everyone, everything etc. = that


Superlative Degree = that
All = that
The same, none, any = that
We use reflexive pronouns with verbs like “enjoy, avail, hurt, absent, pride,
move introduce, acquit, resign, reconcile, etc.

1, I enjoyed himself in the party.


2. The manger introduced himself in the function.
A Reflexive pronoun can never be used as a subject.

Ex: Roshni and myself have decided to go abroad for higher studies.
“Let” and between” are always followed by an objective case pronoun.

Ex: 1. Let he be the admin of this group.


2. Between you and I the sweets will be distributed.
