PREPARATION FOR THE END-OF-COURSE TEST ON LISTENING 4

I. DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST


The test is made up of three parts. In about 30 minutes you are required to answer 30 questions. Students
listen to conversations and dialogues on topics in personal, social, academic or professional life.
Students could also listen to speeches, narratives and other forms of presentation.
II. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME
The end-of-course test is to assess students' listening skills. By the end of the course, students are
expected to be able to ...
1. identify main ideas and details in interviews, lectures, and other presentations at a normal
speaking rate; recognize opinions, attitudes, and moods of the interlocutor.
2. take notes of information in announcements, messages and other resources delivered at a normal
speaking rate or mixed with background noise.
III. REVISION CONTENT
As the listening test is skill-specific, the topics are not restricted, and students are required to complete
a variety of tasks including three-option or four-option multiple choice question, gap-filling or note-
completion, sentence completion, matching, short answers, etc. It is advisable that you should practice
listening to B2 plus-level materials. The FCE and TOEIC test formats are also useful resources to
practice.
