India's Focus on Sustainable
Development
 The India’s achievement of SDGs over the last five years is really
laudable, the government has been ensuring that people at the "bottom
of the pyramid" get the benefits that are due to them the benefits flow to
them through the trinity of government initiatives - Jan Dhan bank
account, Aadhaar unique identity number and mobile phone. The
financial inclusion through 310 million accounts, 120 million gas stoves
provided, the sanitation drive which built nearly 60 million of toilets
across the country and the Ayushman yojana to cover health needs of
the poor. According to 2019 global Multidimensional Poverty Index
(MPI) of UNDP, India lifted 271 million people out of poverty between
2006 and 2016. India’s health coverage has also helped reduce poverty
and improve livelihood. That number alone is mind-boggling and it
speaks to the success of targeted interventions at a level and scale of
ambition that is without parallel in any other country in the world. The
result has been that, today, India is the fastest growing large economy
in the world. It grew 7.9
Sdg no.5
*Description and importance of sdg 5.
SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality by ending all forms
of discrimination, violence and any harmful practices
against women and girls. It also calls for the full
participation of women and equal opportunities for
leadership at all levels of decision-making.
*Key targets and indicators of sdg 5
The first target of SDG 5 is : "End all forms of discrimination
against all females everywhere." This target has one
indicator : Whether or not legal frameworks are in place to
promote, enforce and monitor equality and non-
discrimination on the basis of sex.

*Statistics and charts of Sdg 5
The employment rate for women grew from 60.6 % in 2009
to 70.2 % in 2023. For men, the rate started from a higher
value and increased more slowly, from 74.0 % in 2009 to
80.4 % in 2023 .

 News articles and Case studies
* The world is not on track to reach
gender equality by 2030 -:
1. 300 years to end child marriage.

* 1 in 5 young women are married before

age of 18.
• Nearly half of married women lack
decision making power.
Global and national
initiatives
 To bring sustainable development in the
mainstream United Nations (UN) launched the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDGs.
 This universal, integrated and transformative agenda
aims to spur actions that will end poverty and build a
more sustainable world over the next 15 years.
 There are 17 goals and 169 targets specific targets to
be achieved by 2030. Reaching the goals requires
action on all fronts – governments, businesses, civil
society and people everywhere all have a role to play.
 SDGs are not legally binding.
Challenges and way forward
 One of the primary challenges in achieving the SDGs is
the persistence of inequality within and between countries.
Economic disparities, conflict, unequal access to education
and healthcare, discrimination based on gender, race, and
socioeconomic status hinder progress towards many of the
goals.
 The SDGs set an ambitious agenda, with 169 targets,
covering a wide range of areas. Early efforts after the
adoption of the SDGs showed positive trends in reducing
extreme poverty and child mortality, advancing gender
equality, increasing access to electricity and promoting
renewable energy sources.
Personal Experience
 After researching about this project and
completing it ,I got to know about
inequalities faced by the poor people
and women in the society . Though the
sdg’s try to end this inequality but this is
not enough this inequality can only if the
richer people of the society and the men
stand against this inequality and give
everyone equal chances to become
successful and prosperous.
Conclusions
 In 2015, all the countries in the United Nations
adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development. It sets out 17 Goals, which include
169 targets. These wide-ranging and ambitious
Goals interconnect. Goal 3 is to ensure healthy lives
and promote well-being for all at all ages. But it is
also cross-cutting, so that progress in its
implementation contributes to progress towards
other Goals, and action on other Goals in turn
contributes to attaining Goal 3. Most of the Goals
also have some direct health targets. All of them
have indicators by which progress can be measured.
