LAB REPORT 05
Objective:
To practice the Trim, Extend, Mirror, Offset, Erase, Sketch Plane and Extruded cut commands and
to practice a basic 3D drawing (Practice Drawing-2).
Commands Practice
Sketch Tools:
1. Trim:
In SolidWorks, the Trim tool is used to remove or trim away unwanted portions of
geometry or features. This tool helps in editing or modifying sketches, surfaces, or solid
bodies by removing unnecessary or overlapping regions. Here's a general guide on how to
use the Trim tool in SolidWorks.

• The Trim tool is available in the Sketch toolbar when editing a sketch or within the
Modify Features toolbar when editing a feature.
• Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut "Trim Entities" by pressing "T" while
in a sketch.
Select the Trim Entities:
• Click on the parts of the sketch or feature you want to remove. SolidWorks provides
different selection options such as Power Trim, Trim to Closest, etc.
• If you're using the Trim tool within a sketch, you can use different methods to select
entities for trimming, like crossing lines or corners.
Confirm the Trimming:
Once you've selected the portions to be trimmed, press Enter or click on the green
checkmark to confirm your selection.
Exit the Sketch or Feature Edit Mode:
After using the Trim tool, exit the sketch or feature edit mode to return to the main
workspace.
Trimming with Power Trim:
In SolidWorks, Power Trim is a dynamic and efficient tool that allows users to trim
multiple entities in a single operation by dragging the cursor. It helps streamline the process
of trimming sketches by interactively removing unwanted portions of geometry.

In SolidWorks, the "Trim Away Inside" command is typically used in the context of trimming or
removing excess material from a solid object or part. This function helps in refining or modifying
the geometry of apart by removing unwanted sections. To trim with the Trim away inside option.
Open or Create a Part:
Launch SolidWorks and open the part file you want to work on or create a new part.
Access the Trim Command:
• Go to the "Features" tab on the command manager.
• Find and click on the "Trim" tool in the toolbar.
Select the 'Trim Away Inside' Option:
Within the Trim command, select the "Trim Away Inside" option from the available
trimming methods.
Select Elements to Trim:
Click on the faces or edges that you want to trim away or remove from the part. These are
typically the sections or parts you don't need or want to eliminate from the model.
Confirm Selection and Complete:
• After selecting the faces or edges, confirm your selection.
• SolidWorks will trim away the selected regions, leaving the remaining solid geometry
based on your defined cuts.
Finalize and Save:
• Review the changes and modifications made to the part.
• Save your file to retain the changes.
Trimming with Trim Away Outside:
In SolidWorks, the "Trim Away Outside" command is used to trim away or remove the
exterior portions of a part or solid object. This function allows you to modify the geometry
of a part by removing sections outside a specified boundary. To trim with the Trim away
inside option:
Open or Create a Part:
Launch SolidWorks and open the part file you want to work on or create a new part.
Access the Trim Command:
• Go to the "Features" tab on the command manager.
• Find and click on the "Trim" tool in the toolbar.
Select the 'Trim Away Outside' Option:
Within the Trim command, choose the "Trim Away Outside" option from the available
trimming methods.
Define Boundary or Keep Geometry Inside:
Click on the faces or edges that will serve as the boundary or enclosure for the geometry
you want to keep. These will be the sections that you want to keep intact or preserve within
the boundary.
Confirm Selection and Complete:

4. Offset:
In SolidWorks, the "Offset" command allows you to create new sketch entities or surfaces
that are offset or located at a specified distance from existing sketch entities, faces, or
edges. This command is particularly useful for creating geometry that is parallel or at a
defined distance from the original geometry. If the original entity changes, then the offset.

In SolidWorks, a sketch plane refers to a two-dimensional surface or plane where sketches are
created. Sketches are the foundation of 3D modeling in SolidWorks, and they're usually drawn on
specific planes within the software.

3D Practice Drawing:
Steps of Drawing
1. First, we need to select the plane. In this case we will select front plane for our 2D sketch.
Figure 9
2. Now using line and smart dimension command we will draw our 2D sketch with given
lengths as shown below:
12
Meen221101023 MD & Cad II
Figure 10
3. Now, using the extrude command we will now give a width of 26mm to our 2D sketch
converting it into 3D.
Figure 11
4. Start a new sketch from the bottom of the drawing. Using line, Chamfer and circle
commands draw the following closed bodies with given dimensions. When one side is
complete mirror those two bodies on the other side of body.

Figure 12
5. Using the Extrude Cut command, erase the shapes from the body using previously drawn
bodies.
6. Now start another sketch from the side of the body and draw two circles of given
dimensions. Afterwards Trim the not needed section of the larger circle.

7. Select the two enclosed bodies and using Extrude command erase them throughout the
body as shown in fig.
