In SolidWorks, the "Mirror" command is used to create a mirrored or symmetrical version

of a selected feature, body, face, or component across a defined plane or other specified
entities. This function helps in creating symmetric geometry without the need for recreating
it manually. You can mirror sketches about any these entities:
• Centerlines
• Lines
• Linear model edges
• Linear edges on drawings

Figure 4

4. Offset:
In SolidWorks, the "Offset" command allows you to create new sketch entities or surfaces
that are offset or located at a specified distance from existing sketch entities, faces, or
edges. This command is particularly useful for creating geometry that is parallel or at a
defined distance from the original geometry. If the original entity changes, then the offset.

• The selected entities will display a preview of the offset based on the defined distance.
• Confirm the offset by clicking on the sketch or confirming the operation.
5. Erase:
In SolidWorks, the term "Erase" is not a command or feature within the software.
However, there are functionalities related to editing or removing entities, features, or
components that may achieve similar results to erasing elements within a design.
6. Sketch Plane:

8
Meen221101023 MD & Cad II

In SolidWorks, a sketch plane refers to a two-dimensional surface or plane where sketches are
created. Sketches are the foundation of 3D modeling in SolidWorks, and they're usually drawn on
specific planes within the software.

Figure 6

To add a 3D sketch plane:

• When you start a new part or assembly in SolidWorks, there are three default planes:
Front, Top, and Right. These planes are perpendicular to each other and intersect at the
origin (0,0,0) point in the 3D space.
• To create a sketch, you need to select a plane to draw on. This can be one of the default
planes or custom plane you've created.
• You can select a plane by either clicking on it in the graphics area or by using the
Feature Manager Design Tree to choose the desired plane
• After selecting a plane, you enter sketch mode by clicking on the plane or using the
Sketch tool from the toolbar.
• Within the sketch mode, you can draw various geometrical shapes like lines, circles,
rectangles, arcs, etc., using sketch tools available in SolidWorks.
• SolidWorks allows you to add relationships between sketch entities (like coincident,
parallel, perpendicular, etc.) to define their behavior. You can also apply dimensions
to control the size and position of sketch entities.
• Once you've created a sketch, you can apply various features such as extrusions, cuts,
sweeps, lofts, etc., to convert the 2D sketch into a 3D model. These features use the
sketch geometry as a reference.
• SolidWorks provides tools to manipulate sketch planes, allowing you to rotate, offset,
or create new planes based on existing geometry or reference planes.
7. Extrude Cut:
This command cuts a solid model by extruding a sketch profile in one or two directions.
If the cut affects multiple bodies in multibody parts, you can select which bodies to keep
in the bodies to keep dialog box.
