The Data Scientist

Data Science is an interdisciplinary eld focused on extracting knowledge and

insights from typically large data sets (big data), and applying them to solve business
problems in a wide range of application domains by unifying statistics, mathematical
models, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data visualisation with business
rules. Data Science, however, is different from Computer Science and Information
Science since value of the business outcome is crucial in this context.

Data Scientists create mathematical models and combine it with statistical

knowledge and machine learning to predict events and generate counter-intuitive
insights from data. They seek to understand, interpret, and analyse data with the
goal of augmenting products and processes in firms. Hence, data scientists build
upon a variety of knowledge areas to generatecausal inferences on complex
business problems using methods stemming from machine learning and statistics.
The global Data Science market is estimated to grow from $37.9billion in 2019 to
$230.8 billion by 2026 (indiatimes.com).

Machine Learning & Deep Learning
Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) are the two main pillars of Data
Science and are the subsets of Artificial Intelligence. ML integrates computer science
and statistics to recognise patterns and make predictions from data and perform
specific tasks without being explicitly programmed. DL, a subset of ML, uses
algorithms that analyse data with a logic structure, called Artificial Neural Network
(ANN) that mimics the human thinking process. In general, the learning process of
these algorithms can either be supervised or unsupervised, depending on the data
being used to feed the algorithms.

While the global market for ML is projected to grow from $17.1 billion in 2021 to
$90.1 billion by 2026, the DL market is estimated to grow from $12.3 billion in 2021
to $60.5 billion by 2025 (bccresearch.com).

We are living in the era of big data where massive amounts of data are generated every
second. Thanks to the applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning, yesterday’s
sci-fi has become today’s reality. Acquiring skills and competencies in these technologies
of the future will go a long way in securing your own future in this exciting domain.
Programme Overview
Data Science (DS) and Machine Learning (ML) are fundamentally reshaping
industries and driving innovation across the globe. By 2025, it is projected that
over 463 exabytes of data will be created daily, equivalent to 212 million DVDs
every day. This explosion of data offers unparalleled opportunities for
businesses to make data-driven decisions and streamline operations.
According to the 2024 World Economic Forum report, 85 million jobs are
expected to be displaced by automation, while 97 million new roles, primarily
driven by DS and ML, will emerge. The global Data Science market is estimated
to grow from $37.9 billion in 2019 to $140 billion by 2026, with Machine Learning
accounting for a significant portion of this growth.
Hence, IIT Roorkee’s Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Data Science
and Machine Learning (DSML) is ideal for professionals seeking to leverage
data and advance in this dynamic field. Combining live sessions, recorded
content, and projects, it covers topics from Python programming to advanced
machine learning. With specialisations in Deep Learning and Data Engineering,
this certification empowers learners with the skills needed to excel and lead in
the industry.

If you are looking for a world class Post Graduate

Certification programme, you need to check out Data
Science and Machine Learning course from IIT Roorkee,
organised by TimesPro. I was looking for a certification
programme which has options in specialisations and
this programme from TimesPro has an option to
choose from the three, Data Engineering, Image
Processing and Speech Processing. The specialisations
Harshit Kumar Lohani are in great demand and the teaching of the faculties
IoT Data Scientist, from IIT makes all the difference. TimesPro has a
Corteva Agriscience flawless system of getting the queries addressed and
the onboarding was butter smooth.

Hackathon!! This is the first hackathon of my career, and

I am thoroughly enjoying it with nail biting competition
from my friends and classmates. At the same time, we 4
strangers formed a team across virtual medium to
achieve a common goal of making sense of data set
given to us with all the knowledge imparted to us by
Professor Sanjeev Kumar sir (the god father), Prof.
Raghavendra (another god father) and Prof. Pant. The
Arijit Mandal event is superbly managed by TimesPro team as well
Team Leader, always there to help us and managed seamlessly the
Mando entire event!
It was truly an amazing experience to be part of this
hackathon - it was full of learning, fun and enjoyment. It
was my first ever hackathon and it was nice to see so
many enthusiastic participants. As we all know, we are
in the midst of an era of tremendous change fueled by
technology and innovation. How quickly and frequently
we learn will determine our ability to absorb and apply
related information. If more of these inventive
Anubhav Jain Hackathons are held, I am convinced that we will be

Analyst, with change and tackle current and future issues. I'd
BCG (Germany) want to express my gratitude to IIT Roorkee and
TimesPro for offering such a fantastic opportunity to
participate in this hackathon and take our knowledge to
the next level.

I joined this course because I loved the course content

and IIT Roorkee's reputation. It was once a dream for
me to study at IIT and now after 10 years of work life it
has become true for me. TimesPro has been managing
all the logistics and they have been doing it perfectly
well with their LMS portal and the content hosted on
this platform. I got both theoretical and practical
exposure in this course. Hackathon was conducted
Kethareeswaran recently, and it gave me a great exposure to the
Specialist, practical experience on how Data Science and Machine
Tata Elxsi Learning are being used in the real world. I am hoping
that I will complete this course with flying colors.

I have come across the term DS and Machine Learning

few years back and as I have been working in IT industry
for more than 12 years and specially in the field of Data
Management, Data Warehouses, etc., thought about
further enhancing my sphere of knowledge. I choose,
IIT Roorkee-TimesPro as it has given a chance to further
hone my technical skills and understanding about the
