2. SAFETY WARNINGS

Panels used in LED panel televisions are quite sensitive in electrical and physical aspects.
Therefore, the following warnings should be observed.

1. Panel surface is quite sensitive and can be damaged easily. Take care to avoid scratches
on the panel surface. When you need to lay down the panel, place it on a floor, which will not
cause damages. Besides, do not use rough materials when touching or wiping the panel
clean.

2. Keep panel surface clean. Put on rubber gloves when touching panel surface. To clean
the surface, use a mild cleaning agent that does not get electrified.

3. Keep LED module away from water. Spilling water in or on the panel causes electrical
damage. It should be wiped dry, if needed.

4. Avoid sudden temperature and humidity changes. Sudden changes of temperature and
humidity may harm the panel.

5. High temperature and humidity shortens product life. LED panels are not suitable for use
under high temperatures and humidity conditions. The user should observe the specified
temperature and humidity values.

6. Keep it away from harmful (corrosive) gases. Corrosive gases damage chemical and
electronic structure of LED panel.

7. Static electricity flow may damage the panel. LED module contain materials sensitive to
static electricity such as CMOS, etc. The body should be grounded before touching the
panel. Also, you must not touch connector areas with bare hands.

8. The same image should not stay on the screen for prolonged times. Keeping the same
image on the screen for a long time may lead image retention and the panel may get
damaged. Therefore, TV should be turned off when not in use and the image should be
changed within certain intervals when displaying still images.

3.3.6. DLNA (Home Network)

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is an association established

by the leading companies of consumer electronics, mobile devices
and PC industries. Its objective is to ensure that all electronic
devices which are manufactured by different companies and used
in the home networksare manufactured within certain standards
and comply with each other. Thus, the users can benefit from their
different brand devices in home network smoothly and without interruption. The alliance
companies can develop their products in line with these standards or make desired changes.

With DLNA menu of your television, you can easily access Video, music and photo files on
server; and thanks to DMR feature, you can automatically start and stop media playing on
devices with DMC feature. You can share your video, music and image files through devices
such as PC, mobile phone or NAS (Network Attached Storage) that function as DMS (Digital
Media Server) compatible with DLNA.

3.3.7. HBB TV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV)

Hbb TV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) includes hybrid,

integrated broadcasting and internet TV. Hbb TV allows the
broadcasters to share internet applications of desired contents
(Weather forecast, EPG, video sharing…) with the user over
internet. HbbTV provides the new generation interactive teletext
broadcast with its modern structure, content and high definition (HD) images and videos.
Your TV should be connected to internet in order to receive the HbbTV broadcast. This new
service is already being provided by ARDV and what's more, via third channel of ZDF. This
service provided by ARD includes a detailed program summary besides the graphically re-
engineered teletext with high definition images and “Das Erste Mediathek”. ZDF’s service
includes “ZDF mediathek” and other program information (as of July 2012). This feature can
only be used in countries where the service is provided.
Although the Hbb TV application is a standard feature in J5-chassis products, Hbb TV is not
currently a feature supported by the broadcasters in our country.

3.3.8. 3D TV (3-Dimension TV Technology)

Passive 3D feature shall be provided as

standard for all panel dimensions in J5-
chassis products. While watching 3D
movies, new generation passive glasses
are used to provide 3D impression like in
movie theaters. Images are recorded at
high resolution and played at high speeds
individually for both eyes. Special

September 2012 13
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

3D glasses are scheduled to open right and left lenses and synchronize alternating images.
Thus, they avoid quality losses that may occur in traditional 3D images; and you will
experience exciting 3D viewing experience in the comfort of your home.

3.3.9. DVB-S2
In our J5-chassis products, satellite dish input is integrated
(there is not any separate satellite module) to the chassis.
Thus, you can watch satellite broadcasting directly from TV
without any satellite receiver box.
DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast - Satellite) is satellite
broadcasting received via dish antenna we have been using for years. DVB-S2 technology
also delivers HD broadcasting from satellite in J5-chassis products. So, our TV also functions
as an HD satellite receiver. Scrambled satellite broadcast can also be watched by means of
relevant CI cards.

J5-chassis products will support the satellites Astra-Hotbird-Turksat-Eutelsat-Thor.

3.3.10. DVB-T2
DVB-T stands for Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial. The
frequencies used for DVB-T are UHF and VHF channels that we
are familiar from analog broadcasting. With digital broadcasting,
these channels are used more efficiently compared to analog
technique. Thus, many television channels are accommodated in one frequency. With
COFDM modulation, the bandwidth can be divided among thousands of single carrier. Each
single carrier is encoded with specified technique of QPSK, 16-QAM or 64-QAM modulation.
According to the defined parameters, data rate per channel is approximately 12 to 20 Mbit/s.
Data rate of a frequency can be divided among maximum four programmes. Each divided
programme has averagely 3-5 Mbit/s bit rate. (COFDM)

Operating much more productively than currently used DVB-T technology, DVB-T2 offers the
most appropriate environment for HD broadcasts by using MPEG4 compression technique.
Started to be used in the UK, DVB-T2 technology will also be put into practice by Finland and
Serbia soon. Besides, DVB-T2 is expected to be deployed in many European countries,
primarily Italy and Spain. In our country, TRT has started DVB-T2 test broadcasting in
Dikmen, Ankara.

3.3.11. SCR (Single Channel Router) Technology

J5-chassis products support SCR (Single Channel Router) feature.

The fact that the number of channels which can be received from satellite is very high and
therefore the bandwidth of the signals is very wide makes carrying these signals from the
satellite dish to the house difficult. In addition to that, the increased use of digital video
recording (DVR) devices complicates this problem more. For example, signals received with
four polarities as vertical/horizontal, lower/upper band are controlled by commands from the
device to the LNB and broadcasts with selected polarities are sent only. However, it is not
possible to watch a broadcast while the user is recording a broadcast (DVR) with the same
polarity. In this case, it is required to lay more than one cable from the dish to the house, and
this causes a complicated installation and difficulty in the use of system.

September 2012 14
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

SCR (Single Channel Router) technology provides a "single cable" solution for the difficulties
described above. Multi-cable situation that is required
by double tuner STB receivers with PVR and for the
distribution of signals to multiple receivers can be
solved by a “single cable” with this system.

SCR (Single Channel Router) system is an integrated

solution that includes software and hardware aspects.
SCR LNB should be used with TVs, satellite receivers
or digital recorders compliant with this system. This
feature is provided by software in the device that the
LNB shall be connected, and there is no need to make
a modification in the hardware of the device.

3.3.9. USB Recording (USB-PVR)

This feature allows you to record digital television
channels (DVB–T / T2, DVB–C and DVB-S2) on an
external USB disk and later play these records over the
disk. Recording programmes to view them later can
only be done with digital television stations (DVB-T/T2,
DVB-C and DVB-S2). You can record and playback
external digital television stations (DVB-T and DVB-C)
according to broadcasting station. Recording and
playing programmes, as well as TimeShift function can
only be carried out by using an external data medium
(hard drive or USB stick). The data medium must have
a capacity of at least 2 GB.
- With the introduction of J5-chassis, it is possible for
the first time to record a channel to USB-PVR or to a
hard disk simultaneously while watching the other
channel out of 2 channels at the same transponder
frequency in DVB-C, DVB-T, DVB-S broadcasts. Also,
it is possible to change the source from USB or DLNA sources without interrupting the record
while recording.

Switching to permanent recording; When the permanent recording option is turned on,
your TV records the channel you are watching to time shift memory. Average recording time
of the memory is 60 minutes.

September 2012 15
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

- You can pause and restart or rewind or forward the record whenever you want.
- You can follow the live broadcast max. 60 minutes delayed, and you can rewind of
forward the record at this period.

3.3.12. DIGI LINK and HDMI CEC Feature

Our products with J5 chassis are equipped with HDMI CEC feature.
This feature utilizes CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) protocol. CEC
allows you to make an HDMI connection between your TV and DVD
player, satellite receiver or video recorder and control such equipment
with the remote control of the television. This feature must also be
supported by the device you connect. You television supports the following functions.
Your television is equipped with DIGI LINK feature. This feature utilizes CEC (Consumer
Electronics Control) protocol. CEC allows you to make an HDMI connection between your TV
and DVD player, STB or video recorder and control such equipments with the remote control
of the television. This feature must also be supported by the device you will connect.

3.3.13. Operation with Common Interface (CI+)

Common Interface (CI) is only used in DVB receivers. Scrambled channels can only be
viewed with a CA module suitable for the encoding system and the corresponding smart
card. The television set is equipped with a Common Interface slot into which CA modules
from various providers can be inserted. The service provider’s smart card must be inserted in
the CA module to enable the scrambled channels you want to view.

3.3.14. DIVX VOD ACTIVATION

3.3.15. Passive 3D (FPR) Feature

Passive 3D (FPR) feature shall be supported in all J5-chassis products with AIR cabinet. In
Passive 3D technology, an extra filter (FPR) is available on the filter with respect to active
system and Active shutter 3D glasses that are used previously with batteries and by
recharging are replaced by passive 3D (FPR) glasses without batteries that do not require
recharging.

In Passive 3D technology, special filters are used in TV and 3D glasses and there is no
communication between the 3D glass and TV as it is in the active shutter 3D technology
available; moreover, 3D passive glasses do not require batteries or recharging. 3D FPR
glass takes two frames, one for the left eye and one for the right eye, and send these frames
to brain. 3D perception is provided with these special filters and an uniterrupted perception of
3D is obtained in FPR glasses without the limitations of batteries or recharging. Passive 3D
glasses with the following codes shall be used in passive 3D products VWY910 (DN1109)

5.2.6. Dual Gaming Feature

Dual Gaming feature is added to J5-chassis products from software version 1.13.
Two persons can see different screens while playing a game with each other thanks
to this feature. This feature must be supported by the game and the game console
should support this feature in order to use the feature. The important point here is to
inform the customer that Dual gaming glasses are different than normal 3D glasses.
The technology here is summarized below.
Normally, 3D perception is obtained by providing different images to left and right
eyes. Different images are obtained by adding filters on the glasses. Dual gaming
glasses may be summarized as filters for right eye on one glasses and filters for left
eye on the other glasses. Here, right eye is assigned to 1st player, and left eye is
assigned to the 2nd player. Another important note is that the image is not 3D, but
2D in dual gaming.

5.6. USB Functions

5.6.1. Recording TV Programmes (PVR)

Recording programmes to view them later can only be done with digital television stations
(DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C). You can record and playback digital television stations (DVB-S,
DVB-T and DVB-C) depending on the broadcasting station. Recording and playing
programmes, as well as TimeShift function can only be carried out by using an external data
medium (hard drive or USB stick). The data medium must have a capacity of at least 2 GB.
Recordings can be made with most data mediums on the market. However, we cannot
guarantee operation for all data media. If you record a programme on an external data
medium, you can only watch it on your television. You will not be able to watch this
programme on any other device. If you send your product to be repaired and hardware
components need to be replaced, you might not be able to play the recordings again on the
repaired television. Reception for SKY broadcasting station is currently only possible in
Germany with a suitable set-top box.

Before connecting the data medium,

switch the television to stand-by with »8«.
Connect the device and then switch the
television on again. Before disconnecting
the external data medium, the television
must first be switched to standby,
otherwise files can be damaged. There are
two USB slots, namely »USB1« and
»USB2 (HDD)«, on the TV. »USB2
(HDD)« input is intended for connecting
USB devices that require additional power
(e.g. external hard disk).

September 2012 48
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

Plug the memory stick into the »USB1« interface of the television. Or plug the external hard
disk to the »USB2 (HDD)« interface of television. 2 Confirm the » « display with » « (green).
– The file browser appears.
Notes: »USB1« interface of the television supports 500mA current according to the USB
standard. Devices such as external hard disk and etc. that consume more power can only be
connected to the »USB2« interface of the television.
If you are using a power cable for the external hard disk that you have connected to the
»USB2 (HDD)« interface, then the power cable of the external hard disk must also be
unplugged when the TV is turned off.
You must not disconnect the USB Device from the TV while a file on the USB Device is being
read by the TV.

5.6.2. Time Shift – Pause Programme

You can pause the programme that you are watching. This is a useful function. For instance,
if the phone rings when you are watching a movie, you can pause the movie and resume it
after the call without missing nothing. The last scene that was frozen is displayed and time
shift is recorded into the external data media. In Time Shift mode, you can only record as
much as the free memory space on the external data media. When the Time Shift starts,
recording time is calculated and displayed based on the free space.

5.7. USB Mode

File formats:
Your television can be operated via the USB input with the following file formats:
Video compression / decompression (codec) is intended for decreasing the storage area
without compromising the picture quality. Your television can playback video data
compressed in DIVX, XVID, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (L4.1, Ref. Frames:4), MPEG-4, MPEG-2,
MPEG-1, MJPEG, MOV standards.
File extensions supported by the device: “.avi”, “mkv”, “.mp4”, “.ts”, “.mov”, “.mpg”, “.dat”,
“.vob”. In addition to video data, these files also contain audio data compressed and
"packaged" by using MP3, AAC or Dolby Digital©.

Audio data
Your television can play audio data coded with MP3, AAC and WMA standards. MP3 stands
for MPEG-1 Volume Level 3 and is based on the MPEG-1 standard developed by MPEG
(Motion Picture Expert Group). AAC stands for Advanced Audio Coding developed by
MPEG. AAC provides higher audio quality with the same data rate (bit rate). WMA (Windows
Media Audio) is a compression standard developed by Microsoft for audio data. These
formats enable audio files to be saved on storage devices with a sound quality similar to that
of a CD. File extensions supported by the device: “.mp3”, “.mp2”, “.wma”, “.m4a”, “.aac”. MP3
files can be organized in a similar way to the folders and subfolders in a PC.

Picture data
Your television can display picture data in JPEG, PNG and BMP formats.
JPEG stands for Joint Picture Experts Group. This process is intended to compress picture
files. PNG and BMP standards are intended to compress picture data without loss. Picture
files can be saved in a data storage medium together with other file types. Such files can be
organised as folders and subfolders.

5.7.1. Connecting External Data Storage Devices

Before connecting the data medium, switch the television to stand-by with »8«. Connect the
device and then switch the television on
again. Before disconnecting the data
medium, the television must first be
switched to standby, otherwise files can
be damaged.
Note: »USB1« interface of the television
supports 500mA current according to the
USB standard. Devices such as external
hard disk and etc. that consume more
power can only be connected to the
»USB2« interface of the television.
If you are using a power cable for the
external hard disk that you have
connected to the »USB2 (HDD)«
interface, then the power cable of the
external hard disk must also be
unplugged when the TV is turned off.
You must not disconnect the USB Device
from the TV while a file on the USB Device is being read by the TV.
A bi-directional data transfer as defined for ITE (Information Technology Equipment) devices
in EN 55022/EN 55024 is not possible.
USB transfer is not an operating mode in itself. It is only an additional function.

7. GENERAL OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF TV

September 2012 55
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

7.1. Chassis General Operating Principle

100Hz URSA circuit is not used as an external circuit, but it is integrated to the main
integrated circuit in products with J5 chassis, unlike the products with TP chassis.
As shown in block diagram, single integrated circuit is used for digital and analog controls in
J5 chassis as well as in our other digital chassis. Besides, DVB-T/C and analog
modulator/demodulator are integrated in the main IC. DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T/T2
demodulators are separate from the main IC. The signals from all audio and video sources
provide input to the main integrated circuit; after the video has been processed, it is sent to
the panel from the integrated circuit via LVDS lines. Likewise, the sound is sent to the audio
amplifier after being processed. DDR3 RAMs are used for main IC and MEMC circuit's
processes.

September 2012 56
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

While performing these processes, the main integrated circuit reads software installed on
integrated flash and EEPROM data installed on EEPROMs. RAMs are used for the
processes performed within the integrated circuit.

Surely, the system should be supplied power in 5V, 3.3V, 1.8V, 1.05V, 2.5V and 1.2V, which
is required for these processes.

7.2. DC Power Stage

The Chassis and supply unit are connected via S106 connector. In J5-chassis products, only
5V is fed from the supply unit (PSU) in Stand-By mode (+5V2_ST). 12V and 24V supplies
are switched on by the control of main integrated circuit when television is going out of
Stand-By.

September 2012 57
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

On S106 connector, 3 main control signals are sent to the power supply. The first signal is
“POWER_SWX”; it is sent to the power source from 13th pin of S106 connector. It switches
on 12V and 24V voltages in the "ON" status. 2. The second signal is “BL_CTRLX”; it
switches panel's backlights on or off. This signal is sent from the 19th pin of S106 connector
to the power supply and from there, to panel inverter. 13. In cases where 13th leg is high
(3.3V), backlights are switched on. 3. The third signal is “BRI_ADJX”; it is sent from the 17th
pin of S106 connector to supply unit, and from there to panel inverter. BRI_ADJX signal
represents DIMMING in our previous chassis; it determines the brightness level of backlight
depending on the value set in the user menu. When BRI_ADJX is high (3.3V) maximum
brightness level is reached. This signal can be a square wave or a DC value according to the
panels using PWM dimming and DC dimming.

In Stand-By mode, only +5V2_ST, +5V2_ST_A, VCC3V6-ST (IC108), VCC3V3S (IC107) and
VCC3V3-ST (IC113) voltages exist on chassis. These volatges are used for core voltage
supplies of various modules and ICs as you can see in the electrical diagram of J5. In Stand-
By mode, integrated circuits and regulators remain off as long as possible to ensure lower
power consumption. In J5-chassis products, Stand-By power consumption is below 0.5W.

“POWER_SWX” signal sent from the main IC makes the device exit Stand-By mode. With
POWER_SWX signal; 12V and 24V voltages of PSU are turned on; and POWER_SW
control signal turns on VCC3V6-ST-B (IC122) and VCC3V3 (IC110) voltages respectively.
VCC3V6-ST-B signal activates IC114 to obtain VCC2V5. VCC3V signal activates IC102 and
IC103 regulators, and VCC5V and VCC1V25T2 voltages are obtained. VCC2V5 signal
activates IC100 regulator and VCC1V5 is obtained. PG2 (power good) signal is obtained
from the leg nr. 5 of the IC100 regulator.
PG2 control signal activates IC112 to obtain VCC1.15V. PG1 signal taken from the leg nr. 5
of IC112 regulaor activates IC121 and IC104 to obtain VCC3V6-ST-A and VCC3V3T
voltages.

12V PANEL-VCC voltage is controlled by means of switching T100 with TCON_ON signal
sent by main integrated circuit.

VCC1V5 voltage provides supply for DDR3 RAMs (including Ursa RAM) and main IC;
VCC2V5 voltage for main IC and DVB-T2 demodulator; VCC1V25S2 voltage for and DVB-S2
demodulator; VCC1V25T2 voltage for DVB-T2 demodulator; VCC3V3 voltage for EEPROMs,
main IC, NAND flash, DVB-T2 demodulator, DVB-S2 demodulator, I2C pull-ups and RESET
integrated circuit.

24V VCC_AUDIO voltage provides supply for audio and subwoofer amplifier.

VCC5V voltage supplies tuner , VGA and USB; 3.3V_Tun voltage supplies HDMs; and
VCC1V2_FE, VCC2V5_FE and VCC3V3_FE_SAT voltages supply DVB-S2 demodulator.

8. OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF CIRCUIT COMPONENTS

8.1. Circuit components on the chassis

IC400, IC-SMD MSD8881CV-WOY PBGA TRAY Main IC:

Main integrated circuit IC100's specifications: Digital (DVB-T/C) and analog broadcasting
demodulator, USB recording, Broadcast and A/V d(NTSC/PAL/SECAM) Full HD 100Hz
support, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 support, 32-Bit Linux based processor, Sound and subwoofer
processor and interface, 2 USB, 4 HDMI, 2 DDR3 RAM.

Main integrated circuit collects and processes data coming from all inputs and sends audio
and video output to the speaker over amplifier and to the panel over LVDS line. This
integrated circuit has more than 500 legs. Special equipment is required for installation and
removal. Therefore, these integrated circuits are designed with very low error ratios. If you
suspect any error with main IC on TV, firstly supplies of this IC should be checked. There are
5 input supplies as 1.15V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V. Extremely low or high ratings of these
supplies might cause image freezing, some sources' not functioning or losing the picture
completely. Besides, the problem might be originated in software, EEPROM, flash, crystal or
RAM. If there is a problem, we cannot be sure that it is originated in IC before checking it out.

September 2012 59
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

While turning the TV on, main IC switches on the system by reading the flash and turns on
the power supply by switching the “POWER_SWX” signal to high. Then, panel signals
“BRI_ADJX” (Sets backlight brightness), “TCON_ON” (turns on Panel TCON board, panel
supply) and “BL_CTRLX” (turns on backlight) turn on panel backlight and the image appears
on TV.

IC303, IC-SMD APX812-29UG-7 SOT143 , RESET IC

When VCC3V3_ST voltage falls below 3.08V, System-RST signal is sent to the main IC and
the system is reset.

IC401, IC-SMD M24C64-WMN6TP-K SO8, EEPROM (PANEL DATA)

Panel EEPROM contains the panel’s electrical values obtained after panel adaptation as well
as the resolution data and white settings of the panel. This EEPROM also includes HDCP,
i.e. HD broadcast copy protection password. In case of failure, copy protected HD
broadcasting cannot be received.
Panel EEPROM file is named as “Panel.bin”. This EEPROM’s power supply is 3.3V. If TV
panel does not respond to software update, it should be changed. Its size is 64Kbits.

September 2012 60
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

IC403 , IC-SMD W25Q16BVSSIG SOIC8, SPI FLASH

Similar to TP chassis, J5-chassis products also have two types of software. Similar to BIOS
software on the computer, "Bootloader code" starts to operate as soon as TV is energized
and ensures the functioning of system software. Bootloader code software is stored in SPI
flash, which is used on IC403 position. Its size is 16 Mbits.

September 2012 61
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

IC500, IC501, IC502 IC IC-SMD K4B2G1646E-BCK0 FBGA, DDR3 RAM:

RAM is the place where main integrated circuit performs the processes such as decoding,
encoding, image and video resolution in all applications. Similar to a calculator, it constantly
carries out the processes to ensure the operation of TV. RAM supplies should be carefully
checked. Fluctuations in RAM supplies may cause various errors. Sudden rise or fall of RAM
supply might freeze the television and cause picture lagging.

IC304, IC-SMD K9F4G08U0D-SCB0 TSOP, NAND Flash

Flash memory is where the system operating software is installed. 4GBit nand flash on IC304
position is used in J5 chassis.

System software starts to operate as soon as TV is turned on. This software installed in the
flash controls all TV functions.

If any problem occurs in the flash integrated circuit, the chassis will not function because the
software in the chassis does not start. As soon as the chassis is energized, LED located on
the front panel will start flashing. This means that main IC has read and started the software.
IF LED is constantly illuminated but not flashing, and the chassis is not turned on even
though it is energized, this means either software was not read due to a problem in flash IC
or it could not be started due to a problem in main IC.

power is 15 W (8 ohm), whereas all other products have 10W (8ohm) audio out power in J5
chassis products. A separate circuit for headphone output is not designed in J5 unlike the TP
chassis. Headphone amplifier is integrated to audio IC. Service menu headphone setting can
be set as STA to activate this feature. Headphone audio output power is “2.5mW±10% &
THD+N Ratio: 1%” for -12dBFS, and “≤ 40mW & THD+N Ratio: 10%” for 0dBFS. IC800
audio amplifier is supplied by 24V VCC_AUDIO voltage. A dedicated circuit is used to avoid
POP NOISE when the TV is turning on and off.

IC802, IC-SMD STA381BWTR-5HUF VQFN48 , Sub Woofer

Sub Woofer is optional in J5-chassis products. IC800 audio amplifier is supplied by 24V
VCC_AUDIO voltage.

J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

IC203, IC-SMD MSB1231-LF LQFP64 DATE-1051, DVBT2 Demodulator:

DVBT2 demodulator enables the reception and modulation of next generation digital
terrestrial broadcasting (DVBT2), and the creation of audio and video. For DVBT2 modulated
broadcasts to be received by J5-chassis product, DVBT2 should be selected ON in service
menu in addition to lineup of DVBT2 modulator and peripheral components on the chassis.
DVB-T2 demodulator’s supplies are 1.2V, 2.5V and 3.3V. IC203 communicates with main IC
and tuner through I2C lines.

IC202, IC-SMD W25X10BVSNIG SOIC8, DVBT2 SPI Flash:

It is the integrated circuit where the software running DVB-T2 processor is installed. It is
supplied with VCC3V3 voltage.

September 2012 65
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

IC201, IC-SMD CXD2850AER-T4 QFN, DVB-S2 Tuner and Demodulator IC:

S2 Tuner and Demodulator are used in the same IC in J5-chassis project unlike the TP-
chassis. The satellite receiver obtains inter frequency signal of digital broadcast taken from
the tuner, filters this carrier frequency from other frequencies and sends video and audio
data on it to the demodulator after loading IF on inter-frequency. DVB-S2 compatible tuner
also enables viewing HD broadcast from the satellite. It operates with 1.2V, 2.5V and 3.3V
supplies. And its outputs are directly sent to the demodulator.

IC201 is also the S2 demodulator (decoder) integrated circuit. Digital broadcast (D_IF)
selected from DVB-S2 tuner enters demodulator IC. Demodulator integrated circuit receives
video and audio data loaded on the carrier frequency and this data is separated from the

J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

carrier frequency and converted to the form required for transmission to the main IC. For the
efficient transmission of the signal, digital image is sent to the main integrated circuit as
transport stream. DVB-S2 compliant IC is used for the SONY CXD2850AER demodulator
used in J5-chassis products.

IC116, IC-SMD LNBH25LPQR QFN24, LNB regulator

This integrated circuit adjusts LNB voltage according to the data received from IC through
I2C line. High band-low band, vertical-horizontal selection, DiSEqC selection are all done
according to the data this integrated circuit sends to LNB. It is supplied 12 V power. As 12V
power is only used to feed this integrated circuit in satellite module and as "Enable" signal
when generating 3.3V, we may estimate that any error in 12V will affect this IC.

the tuner obtains analog and digital IF (inter frequency signals) of the broadcasts. This SONY
brand tuner uses 5V power as antenna feed for active antennas. This selection can be made
from user menu and is controlled by the signal on D200 from the chassis (Leg 1). Tuner is
locked to the desired channel by communicating with main board and main IC, depending on
the selected source, through T_SCL and T_SDA lines. It selects the desired frequency by
filtering other frequencies and transforms the signal as to enter main IC. This chassis does
not have a separate demodulator IC. Demodulation is performed in main IC. Here, I2C

9. SERVICE MENU SETTINGS

To enter service menu, just like in the previously launched products, we press menu button
of the remote control and enter 9, 3, 0, 1 or 8, 5, 0, 0.

As the chassis improvement and development works go on throughout the production,

service menu items may vary according to the software version. The following explanations
are service menu settings of the current version.

System Configuration:

This menu contains general settings of the system. Press OK button on the remote
control to access this menu.

TV MODE tab contains "Factory" and "Customer" options. It is used to perform factory
controls and settings more efficiently and faster. On the TVs delivered to the customer, this
setting is absolutely selected as "Customer." Otherwise, it will lead to customer complaints
such as "TV automatically turns on after power failures" or "different functions operate from
the remote control".

HDCP VERIFY: It must be checked if HDCP key is loaded or not during factory controls.
HDCP key stands for ““High Bandwidth Content Protection Key”. This key is used to prevent
copying of data on digital sources such as DVD or blue-ray. With HDCP, video data is
transmitted from the source to the receiver as encrypted. Therefore, to watch HDCP
encrypted DVDs or blue-ray, HDCP key should have been loaded on TV. On the products
with HDCP installed, SUCCESS message is included.

DEBUG MODE is the feature, which is used to track software modifications made on TV
during R&D stage. This setting must be "Off" on TVs delivered to the customer.

PLUG PLAY (Demo Mode): A navigation key is pressed after having completed all settings
and checks in the factory. Later, "Please wait" message appears; and when you see the
message "DONE", the device should be unplugged and plugged again. With this process,
television will be set to its initial values before delivery. It will be proper to set Plug&Play tab
after servicing. After pressing right key on the tab, EEPROMs will be loaded with factory

September 2012 77
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

defaults. TV can be shipped to the customer after this setting. Please note that any warning
is not displayed or you do not have to exit the menu while Plug&Play is getting activated. You
should be careful not to take the device into Plug&Play mode by mistake.
BLUE BACK enables us to determine background when there is no picture on the screen.
When "On" is selected, background will be blue; and when "Off" is selected background will
be black or snowing. “On” should be selected in GRUNDIG brand products and “Off” in other
products.

HOTEL tab should be set to "On" with the products for which Basic Hotel TV feature is
desired; and it should be set to "Off" in other products. When the hotel model is "On", certain
features designed for the hotel use are activated; the user cannot change the channels set
by the service, for example, or the volume cannot be increased more than a certain level.
(For detailed information, refer to 16. HOTEL TV SETUP)

CI KEY VERIFY indicates if CI Key was installed or not. This menu cannot be changed. This
option should appear as “Pass” in the products with CI Plus feature. CI Key is the keyword
on the card which is inserted to decrypt the broadcasting. This menu is a control indicator
and changes automatically. This keyword is installed during TV production and it becomes a
kind of ID for your TV when watching encrypted channels. J5-chassis products support CI+
feature. Launched in 2008, it is a new encryption standard developed with the collaboration
of consumer electronics and scrambled digital broadcasting companies. It was possible to
copy the programmes after decoding process; however, now they cannot be copied because
IC that comes with CI Plus has a key. In this system, broadcasting is initially decoded on CI
card. The broadcasting transmitted to the main IC from the CI card is also encrypted and it is
decoded with CI Key, which is a factory setting and different for each TV. Thus, there will be
no free encrypted broadcasting on the bare line and encrypted broadcasting cannot be
copied. CI+ feature is standard in all the products with J5 chassis.

PANEL ENERGY CLASS header is used for selecting the energy class of the product.
Product is set to specifications in the factory. Panel brightness levels available in the panel
EEPROM are used according to the product energy class.

SOURCE Configuration:

This menu can be accessed by pressing 2,3,5,6 on the remote control. The settings under
source configuration tab determine which sources will be on and which ones will be off
depending on customer demands. In J5-chassis products, only SATELLITE is optional and
DVD source is not supported. All other sources are set to ON in standard.

TV Configuration:
This menu contains configuration settings of TV. We may select amongst the menus that are
being used and to be used on TV. These settings differ from the "System Configuration". This
menu contains the changes which the user can directly observe.

To enter this menu, you should go to "TV configuration" from the service menu and enter the
numbers 2, 3, 5, 6 in sequence.

11.FAILURE ANALYSES
11.1. Sound but no picture, and backlight illuminated

In this section, we will basically explain where we need to check if there is "no picture
on TV" even though there is not any problems in the panel inverter. here, we are
assuming that chassis is generally in good condition as we obtain sound output from
TV.
When you cannot determine if the backlight is working or not due to the illumination
level in the environment, you are recommended to tap on the TV's front panel lightly;
if the backlight is working, you will notice a slight glowing.

Before starting controls and repairs, it is crucial to analyse and comprehend the
problem exactly. In this problem, you must make
sure if it is originated from the utilized source, if it is a cable connection error or if
utilized devices have any problems or not.

Then, particularly LVDS cable on the chassis should be checked for any
disconnections, loose parts, dislocations, breaks or ruptures. Likewise, it will be
proper to check cable connections around the panel.

Later, the panel power supplied to the panel T-CON board over LVDS cable should
be checked. Panel power is 12V on 26" and larger TVs with J5 chassis

If this value of power supply does not exist, the root cause is detected by tracking
back from this supply.

Panel supply is switched by T100 MOSFET. Initially, the input - that is L100 coil - is
checked for 12V. If you cannot detect 12V supply here as well, then the problem is
on the power supply side.

If 12V exists at the input, check the voltage on T100 FET legs. When TV is "ON",
FET Leg 1 has voltage higher than 0V, that is 3.8V, and Leg 2 transmits supply
voltage to Leg 3. If Leg 1 does not have voltage, check "Panel_ON-P1" signal, Leg 1
of R103 resistance. here, if the voltage is high, it means that panel supply has not
been turned on from the main integrated circuit or software. This signal remains high
while the TV is going out of Stand-By and gets down to 0V, 1 seconds before the
picture appears on the screen

If the panel is supplied voltage over LVDS, it is most likely that picture information is
transmitted as well. Even if we do not have
any precise control method for information flow over data lines, the voltage is around
1.2V DC as detected by means of a measuring tool. In this case, it is likely that panel
has an error; if possible, it can be checked by using a different panel or using the
same panel with a different chassis.
Besides, you can also consider problems including that LVDS data is not being
transmitted to the panel properly, wrong panel EPPROM or software error. You can
solve the problem by installing correct software.

September 2012 94
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

11.2. Sound but no picture, and backlight not illuminated

Even though LVDS data is printed on the screen, the picture cannot be seen
because the backlight is not illuminated. First, cable connections, particularly inverter
and supply cables and connectors should be checked.
24V power supply should be checked over inverter cable when TV is ON. When this
power needs to be supplied to the inverter unit of the panel, the backlight will not be
illuminated if there is not 24V supply. 24V and 12V supplies are switched on by
POWER_SWX signal coming from the main integrated circuit when TV is ON. In this
case, if there is 12V output but no 24V output, then the problem rests in the power
supply.
If 24V supply exists on the system; on the Leg 19 of S106 connector, a voltage over
3V DC should be transmitted to the panel. This voltage gives "switch on" command to
the panel inverter. This control is provided with “BL_CTRL” and peripheral materials.
Besides, voltage level that determines brightness of panel lights through Pin 17 of
connector S106 should be higher than 2V.
Brightness control may vary according to the panel, however, it operates dimly
around 0V and completely on around 3.3V. Brightness control is done by
“BRI_ADJX” signal coming from the main integrated circuit.
When the "backlighting" tab is dimmed in the user menu, the voltage in the Pin 17 of
the connector decreases slowly.
If no problem appears in the checks performed at the chassis, you should consider
that the problem might be arising from panel inverter module or the lights.

11.3.No Sound

It should be checked that if other sources, cables and devices have any problems.
You need to make sure that volume has not been turned down from television
settings or mute button is not pressed.

If there is not any problems, check the loudspeaker cables and loudspeakers on the
chassis; fix the problem, if any.

Check if there is sound on the headphones socket. headphone output is also use
audio amp. In general, getting sound on the headphone socket shows that the
problem rests in the sound amplifier’s output stage (IC800).

Also, if you cannot get the sound on TV, scart output should be checked for the
sound. If there is no sound in the scart output, then it means that there is no sound
coming from the main integrated circuit. If the scart output has sound, the problem
might be arising from the sound amplifier or peripheral materials.

At the IC800 position, 8th and 5th pins of the sound amplifier or L805 condenser is
checked for 24V. If you don't detect this supply, you should make sure that either

September 2012 95
J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

L800 or L806 coil is inserted. If any, as mentioned before, power supply should be
checked for problems.

If the amplifier is being supplied with power, Leg 22, 27,48,38 and 40 on Amplifier
should be checked for 3.3V DC voltage. If 3.3V does not exist, we should check
VCC3V3. This voltage gets down to 0V and ensures switching the amplifier off in
Stand-By mode (AMP_STB signal and main integrated circuit performs the control).

Sound amplifier has I2C communication lines to communicate with the main
integrated circuit. Roughly, the voltage level should be below 3.3V and variable at
the Pins 43 and 44. here, the fixed 3.3V gets lower when data is being transmitted,
and thus, sound amplifier and main integrated circuit communicate. If this value is
constantly 0V, short circuit possibility should be checked where I2C line is
connected. Current version of the software should be installed against software
problems.

Pin 40 is the reset pin of the sound amplifier. This pin should be high (3.3V) during
the time when TV is on. This value might be measured from C843. If this value is low
(0V), RESET_OUT signal should be checked. If this signal, which can be checked
from R820 resistance, is low, you may suspect that the problem rests in software.
If all these inspections don't give any results, you may suspect that amplifier
integrated circuit has failure.

16. HOTEL TV SETUP

Hotel TV is intended to prevent hotel guests from changing TV’s channel settings and turning
volume up to disturbing levels for the environment. Therefore, “Source Settings” tab is not
shown in user menu.

Check whether the “Hotel TV” option under the System Configuration tab in Service Menu is
“On” to perform the desired settings in HOTEL TV. If the “Hotel TV” tab is ON in the service
menu, then we must open the “Hotel TV Settings” menu and log in as “Admin” to perform any
operation in this menu.

Video Settings

Open the user menu by pressing “Menu” button in order to open the Hotel TV Settings menu
and make operations in this menu. On the Video Settings, use password 4, 6, 5, 8 to turn off
and on the MENU once; thus you can access HOTEL TV settings and get the authorization
(admin mode) to perform settings in HOTEL TV mode. Remember that Hotel TV settings
shall not be displayed when the TV is turned off and on again. Above-stated procedures
have to be repeated if any change is to be made on the settings again.

On the HOTEL TV SETTINGS menu, we can perform channel tuning (Source Setup menu),
maximum initial sound volume settings and whether TV will stay on Stand-By or directly
switch on when plugged in (Hotel TV Settings menu). This feature turns off after TV is
switched to Stand-By.

September 2012 123

J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

The channels are tuned and favourite list is determined over source settings. In customer
mode, TV is turned on at the channel and source where it was turned off at admin mode.
This feature should be used to set TV’s opening channel. As an opening channel, you may
set the hotel's own advertisement channel with hotel's videos or a channel advertising paid
broadcasts. In customer mode, it is not an error that TV is turned on at the same source and
channel whichever channel or source was open when turning off the TV. You should
consider this issue before switching TV to Stand-By in Admin mode.

When setting up hotel TV, the easiest and most convenient way is to perform all settings on
a single TV and copy the same configuration to other TVs by means of cloning feature. Here,
you should make sure that TV is turned off at the intended channel after completing setup at
the admin mode.

“Cloner Configuration” menu has to be opened in order to use the cloning feature from the
USB. Cloner Configuration menu can be turned on by two ways. First one is to navigate to
the “Cloner configuration” tab and press 4, 6, 5, 8 keys. Another option is to press 4,6,5,8 to
enter Cloning menu in the Source Setting/Program Table while you are in Hotel TV admin
mode.

In the Cloning menu:

Copy selects what and to where we want to copy. TV to USB copies the configuration on TV
to the USB. USB to TV transfers previously prepared channel list, user and satellite settings

J5 CHASSIS / TELEVISION

18. FINDING MISSING CHANNELS ON PRODUCTS WITH SATELLITE RECEIVER

On satellite source, when automatic channel search is performed in Turksat, missing channel
problem may be encountered.
When automatic search is performed on satellite source, channel search is done according
to the frequencies in the transponder list installed on television software and the discovered
channels are stored. (When satellite source is selected in Source Settings menu, press right
arrow on the transponder option to view the list of stored transponders.)
The problem results from that this transponder lists change in time or new ones are added. In
J5-chassis products, even though new transponder lists are added in updated software, this
list may lose validity in time. If manual search is performed with the information about newly
added or changing frequencies, the channels will be found out and added to the end of the
list.

As a solution; Turksat satellite has a “Turksat Auto Search and Teletext” channel, (namely
TURKSAT PROMO). This channel make V (vertical) broadcasting on 11844Mhz frequency
and with 02222 symbol rate. With digital manual tuning option, enter this frequency and
perform tuning by selecting “Network Search” option “On” in order to scan and find current
satellite channels by “Türksat Uydu Haberleşme Kablo TV ve İşletme A.Ş”.

Note: Also, Turksat promo channels are available on 12729 and 12015 frequencies, but
current network search frequency is 11844Mhz.
Turksat channel list's broadcasting information and automatic channel tuning frequency may
change in time. Updated information may be obtained on Turksat’s website.
