INTRODUCTION TO GAZETTED (KAS)


The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) conducts the KAS exam, officially known as the Gazetted
Probationers exam to fill Group A and B vacancies in the Karnataka state administration. KPSC exams are conducted
regularly for various posts and for information regarding notifications, exam dates, notifications, results, etc., refer to the
official KPSC.

The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) Recruitment 2021: Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC)
is going to release the Recruitment Notification for the Group A & B recruitment of Commercial Tax Officer (CTO),
Tahsildar (Revenue Department), Asst Commissioner Commercial Taxes and other posts 2021 detailed Advertisement

The eligibility criteria of the Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS, 2021 are based on the following points:
1. Age Limit
2. Educational Qualification
3. Number of Attempts
4. Nationality

The details of all the eligibility are discussed below:


1. AGE LIMIT
There are the minimum and maximum age limits for the different categories for the Karnataka Public Service

Commission, KAS examination. At the last date of submission of the application form, a candidate should be a minimum
of 21 years old. For General Category, the maximum age limit should be 35 years old. However, there is relaxation for
the
category belonging to SC/ ST, OBC.

2. EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Candidates have to fulfill some minimum level of parameters based on educational qualification and age before
applying for the KPSC Group A Recruitment. The eligibility criteria for the KPSC Group A Post have been discussed
below. The minimum criteria for Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS is to qualify Bachelor’s degree or Master’s
degree or its equivalent qualification from a recognized University.

4. NATIONALITY
Nationality is another important point for eligibility for the Karnataka Public Service Commission, KAS, 2021 exams.
Candidates appearing for KPSC, KAS 2021 exams must be a citizen of India. Candidates belonging outside Karnataka
are also eligible to apply for KPPS, KAS 2021 exams. But they have to clear the Kannada language examination.
Kannada is the Compulsory Language for KPSC, KAS examination.
HOW TO APPLY ONLINE
 Visit the official website i.e., https://kpsc.kar.nic.in/ or click on the link mentioned above
in the article.
Under the What’s New section, click on the “Apply Online Application”

A new window will open, fill in the details required for the registration.
Complete the application form and attach the scanned photograph and signature.
 Submit the application form and pay the application fee.
Take a printout of it for future reference.

SELECTION PROCESS AND EXAM PATTERN


As per the latest Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations)
(Amendment) Rules, the KAS aspirants have to clear the 2-stage exam. The first stage is the Preliminary examination
which comprises 2 papers with objective-type questions. The candidates who clear the Prelims become eligible for the
Main stage of the exam. The Main stage of the KAS exam consists of a written examination and a personality test
(interview). Hence, in effect, the KPSC KAS exam pattern is modeled quite closely on the lines of the UPSC IAS exam.
EXAM PATTERN:
1. Prelims – 2 papers -objective type questions
2. Mains – 7 papers – essay/descriptive type
3. Interview

1. PRELIMS EXAM
The tentative date for the first stage of the KPSC KAS exam 2021 is still to be released by the Karnataka Public Service
Commission (KPSC.) KPSC KAS Prelims 2017-18 took place on 24th August 2020. The Prelims stage consists of two
papers which are conducted in offline mode (pen-paper) on the same day. This stage has only objective type (MCQs)
questions and it acts as a filtering stage for the Main examination. The UPSC exam pattern is also on similar lines. The

marks in KAS Prelims are not counted for the final merit list, however, aspirants should prepare diligently as the cutoffs
vary each year.

Note:
Exam Duration: 120 Minutes (2 Hours) for Each Paper
Negative Marks: 0.25 marks penalty for every incorrect answer

Both papers in Prelims consist of 100 questions each.


Each question is for 2 marks and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for an incorrect answer.
The General Mental Ability questions will be of the 10th standard level.

To sit for KAS Exam or Gazetted Probationers Exam, candidates have to know the eligibility criteria of the examination.
Also, once the candidates have registered their application, they should keep themselves updated with the release of
the admit card

2. MAIN EXAM
The new exam pattern for the Main stage of the KPSC KAS exam is as follows:
Total of 7 papers
English and Kannada language papers are compulsory and qualifying in nature
At least 35% marks are needed to clear English/Kannada papers
The level of the questions will be of Honors degree level.
The questions are descriptive-essay type in nature and there is no negative marking
The question papers will be set in both Kannada and English.
The standard of Kannada and English language papers will be First Language Kannada and First
Language English at the SSLC level, respectively.

3. PERSONALITY TEST
The candidates who score above the cutoff in the KAS Mains will be shortlisted for the interview with the KPSC board.
Update – Earlier, KAS Interview score was 200 which now has been slashed to 50. Here are a few points to note:
Usually, the ratio of the total number of vacancies in that year and candidates called for an interview is
1:3. Reportedly, it has been increased to 1:5
The Personality test board is constituted by the KPSC Chairman
The board consists of 4 persons out of which there shall be 2 KPSC members
The other 2 members will be from among:
Retired All India Services officers
Eminent Professors (Retired) from IITs, IIMs, Central/State Universities
The panel will be chaired by the senior-most KPSC member present.
The maximum marks for the interview are 50
The panel members will not be told the candidate’s marks in the Mains stage.
The KAS interview is to test the mental caliber, societal awareness, balance of judgment, and leadership
abilities.
The 4 members panel will give marks individually and then the average of those marks will constitute the
candidate’s marks in the interview.
The KPSC KAS result or the merit list is the sum of marks in the Mains and the Interview.

SYLLABUS OF THE MAINS PAPER IS: Both the qualifying papers aim to test the candidate’s ability to read,
understand and express in the given language. Qualifying Papers:

ANSWER KEY
The Answer key will be released by the commission after the candidates have successfully appeared for KPSC

Gazetted Probationers Exam and this will help the candidate compare their responses with the final answer key
provided by KPSC.
RESULT

Karnataka
 State Public Service Commission will release the Result of the Exam. For the sake of candidates, we have
created this post causes the candidates can access frequent updates about KPSC Results. So here the candidates can
get relevant information on KPSC Results and Cut off Marks, Merit List. The tentative date of the Result announcement

will soon.
CUT-OFF
The Cut off Marks are the minimum marks that the aspirants are required to be eligible for the next round of the
Recruitment Process. Candidates must note that the KPSC Cut off 2022 will be available Category Wise. We have
already been informed that the Commission has not fixed the date of the Result announcement. You must remember

KAS officers are the higher-level administrative officers of Karnataka government departments. The works of KAS
officers include administration, supervising the government projects, filing approvals, and coordinating the departments

Tehsildar: The work of the tehsildar is to obtain and keep track of land revenue, canal revenue, cesses, and other dues
of the government. He is responsible to execute all the duties according to the rules described by the government from
timeto time. The Commercial Tax officer: He is the Head of the office and the Deputy Commercial Tax Officers and
Assistant Commercial Tax officers work under him. The Commercial Tax officer is responsible for the compilation of
 demand, collection and balance statements. Asst. Commissioner. Deputy Superintendent of Police: He is
monthly
responsible for the prevention of crime. He has to develop new ideas about how he can manage the crime. The
supervision of all the cases and all the related investigations are his responsibility. He visits all the crime scenes by
himself and takes care that the investigation should be done properly. Assistant Commissioner: An Income Tax
Department is responsible for the day-to-day administration of various taxes. An Income Tax Officer (ITO) is involved in
determining tax liabilities, individual and company audits, assisting the public with their tax situations and investigating
work aimed at combating tax evasion
