Question One

a) i) Define the term “Educational Technology”. (2 marks)

ii) Differentiate between Teaching Technology and Instructional Technology.

b) Bearing in mind the three approaches to educational technology, explain how a


teacher should apply educational technology in teaching. (6 marks)

c) Based on a sub-topic from one of your teaching subjects; explain how you will
apply “Dale’s Cone of Experience” as you deliver the lesson in class. (4 marks)

d) Citing examples from the various roles served by instructional media in teaching
and learning; differentiate between use of media as “aids to instruction” and as
“aids to learning.” (4 marks)

e) Explain how the current trends in media and technology will affect the field of

f) List four creative approaches that can be used by the classroom teacher to
ensure effective and efficient use of printed materials during instruction.

b) Explain how the systems approach relates to media selection and use during
instruction. (4 marks)
c) Describe the steps in the media selection process. (12 marks)

Question Three

“In spite of the recent public fascination with new electronic media, it is unlikely that
printed materials will ever be eliminated as a vehicle of instruction and will always have
an important role in instruction.” Discuss the correctness of the above statement taking
into account the advantages and the various uses associated with printed materials
during instruction. (20 marks)

Question Four

a) Using a sub-topic from one of your teaching subjects, explain how you will apply
the five general principles of media selection and use as proposed by Erickson
and Curl (1972) (10 marks)

b) State two reasons why a teacher needs to integrate media into the instructional
setting. (2 marks)

c) Based on a sub-topic that can be taught in one of your teaching subjects; explain
how you will integrate media into the instructional process. Draw an actual lesson
plan to support your answer. (8 marks)
