COMPLETE VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS

NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN

1. SCOPE

The purpose of this document is to harmonize VIEQ requirements within Ford Motor Company, and to
document guidelines pertaining to certain materials with regards to Odour, Fogging and the emission of
Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Carbon Compounds (VOC's). In addition are listed the requirements
for allergy testing of materials which have direct skin contact with the vehicle occupants and
requirements for exterior air filtration.

2 APPLICATION

Section B1 and B2 is applicable to materials and components ONLY.

Section B2 is applicable to allergy testing and direct skin contact requirements ONLY
Section B3 is applicable HVAC performance ONLY.
Section B4 is applicable to complete vehicle interior requirements ONLY.

The requirements established by this Standard apply to all products supplied to Ford and assembled
into the cabin space and or air conditioning system. They apply equally to Full Service Suppliers,
Proprietary (black box), and Ford specified items.

References to "Ford" within this document shall be understood to include any Ford designated vehicle
platforms.

3. REQUIREMENTS

The primary intent of this Standard is to control emissions from materials and formed articles used in the
passenger cabin, load space and air filtration system. Conformance to these requirements must be
completed prior to supply of product to Ford. Details of any brand-specific direction and this process can
be obtained by contacting the appropriate regional Materials Engineering office (see Appendix 4).

3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS

Materials suppliers and part producers must conform to Company's Standard Requirements for
Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A).

3.4 DIRECT SKIN CONTACT – ALLERGY TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Epicutaneous Patch Tests – CLAUSE 12.

Test procedure:
The test procedure is described in detail in the proDERM standard protocol V06 (05-ECT). The
test materials are to be applied for 24 hours to the skin on the back of the test persons with the
help of the Transpore® Carrier Mask and the occlusive plaster/band aid. The carrier mask
remains on the skin up until the end of the study. The first visual assessment takes place 15
minutes after removal of the test material. The second and/or third evaluations were carried out
48 and 72 hours after the application. The visual assessment is to be undertaken by means of a
standard assessment scale. This evaluation procedure stands in accordance with the COLIPA
guidelines (Cosmetic Product Test Guidelines for the Assessment of Human Skin Compatibility,
COLIPA, 1995).

SECTION B3- Performance Requirements, HVAC ONLY

3.5 HVAC PERFORMANCE

The target with the basic level of cabin air quality is to prevent the occupants from high
concentrations of particles. This can be solved by using for instance a Particle filter.

3.5.1 FILTRATION PERFORMANCE FOR TOXPROOF CERTIFICATION: MINIMUM

REQUIREMENT (CLAUSE 13)
--`,,,,`,,,``````,,,`,,`,,`,,```-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---

Fractional Collection Efficiency:

The fractional collection efficiency of the full size filter shall be measured isokinetically

The filter is tested in a test duct according DIN 71460 part 1 at a flow rate of 300 m³/h.
Air containing a standardized test dust concentration is drawn through the filter. The
particle concentration in the filter outlet is measured by a particle counter. The following
collection efficiency shall be fulfilled:

Aerodynamic Particle size in µm 0.49 0.81 1.62 4.86 16.2

Requirements (%) > 65 > 70 > 80 > 90 >95

By an additional test the filter system has to proof the same collection efficiency in a
measurement using real pollen.

3.5.2 OPTIONAL FILTRATION PERFORMANCE (CLAUSE 14)

The target can be solved by using, for instance, a Combined Gas and Particle filter. To
prevent the occupants from high concentrations of particles and gases. Exterior smell is
also to be minimised.

APPENDIX 2

Requirements for Interior Space:

The interior air testing is conducted in a new car with an age, which is representative for the time between
manufacturing and sales, max. 4 weeks (28 days +/- 5). Because of the known VOC emission behaviour of
materials these measurements lead to maximum concentrations which decay with increasing time after the
production date. The objective is to determine the indoor air concentration of volatile organic compounds under
the typical conditions of use. The typical temperature in a car is assumed to be 21°C. In order to maintain this
temperature at higher outdoor temperatures an integrated air conditioning is recommended
--`,,,,`,,,``````,,,`,,`,,`,,```-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---

Before the measurement the car is conditioned in a climatic chamber at 21 ± 2°C for at least 8 h. A sampling
tube is installed at the driver's nose position and all windows and doors are closed. During the interior air
sampling a temperature of 21 ± 2°C is maintained. The sampling time is 30 minutes. The measurement takes
place without any air exchange.

By this procedure the mean VOC concentration is determined a passenger is exposed to in a closed car during
the first 30 min after entering the car. According to practical observations after 30 min passengers would at least
partly open the windows or switch on the fan in order to breathe fresh air and to reduce the carbon dioxide
concentration in the interior air

The conditioning and sampling temperatures against time are monitored by a data logger.

The air in the test chamber outside the car is measured simultaneously in order to determine the blank values of
VOC components.
A second measurement is done after driving the car for 30 min in order to detect volatile organic compounds
which might be released by the warm motor and contaminate the interior air through leaks in gaskets and seals.
In connection with both measurements the odour of the interior air is documented. Only a weak product typical
odour is tolerated.
All concentrations of compounds in the interior air corrected by the blank values must keep the limits of
Clause 3.6.
