PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
The passive voice is a grammatical construction in which the subject of the sentence is acted
upon by the verb. In the passive voice, the focus is on the action and the recipient of the action,
rather than on who or what is performing the action. The passive voice is often used when the
doer of the action is unknown, unimportant, or implied.

Passive voice dalam Simple Present Tense digunakan jika kita ingin fokus pada penerima
tindakan (bukan pelakunya).

1. Positive (Kalimat Positif)

Subject + is/am/are + V3 + by + object + complement

Contoh:

 The cake is baked by Sarah. (Kue dipanggang oleh Sarah.)

 The room is cleaned every day. (Ruangan dibersihkan setiap hari.)

2. Negative (Kalimat Negatif)

Subject + is/am/are + not + V3 + by + object + complement

Contoh:

 The cake is not baked by Sarah. (Kue tidak dipanggang oleh Sarah.)
 The room is not cleaned every day. (Ruangan tidak dibersihkan setiap hari.)

3. Interrogative (Kalimat Tanya)

Is/Am/Are + Subject + V3 + by + object + complement+?

Contoh:

 Is the cake baked by Sarah? (Apakah kue dipanggang oleh Sarah?)

 Is the room cleaned every day? (Apakah ruangan dibersihkan setiap hari?

PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PAST TENSE

Past Passive Voice adalah bentuk kalimat pasif dalam Simple Past Tense, yang digunakan untuk
menunjukkan bahwa suatu tindakan terjadi di masa lalu dan subjeknya menerima tindakan
tersebut.

1. Positive (Kalimat Positif)

Subject + was/were + V3 + (by + doer)
 Gunakan was untuk subjek tunggal (I, he, she, it, singular nouns).
 Gunakan were untuk subjek jamak (you, we, they, plural nouns).
Contoh:
 The door was locked by the janitor. (Pintu dikunci oleh petugas kebersihan.)
 The chairs were arranged neatly. (Kursi-kursi disusun dengan rapi.)
2. Negative (Kalimat Negatif)
Subject + was/were + not + V3 + (by + doer)
 Tambahkan not setelah was/were untuk membuat kalimat negatif.
Contoh:
 The door was not locked by the janitor. (Pintu tidak dikunci oleh petugas kebersihan.)
 The chairs were not arranged neatly. (Kursi-kursi tidak disusun dengan rapi.)
3. Interrogative (Kalimat Tanya)
Was/Were + Subject + V3 + (by + doer)?
 Letakkan was/were di awal kalimat untuk membuat pertanyaan.
Contoh:
 Was the door locked by the janitor? (Apakah pintu dikunci oleh petugas kebersihan?)
 Were the chairs arranged neatly? (Apakah kursi-kursi disusun dengan rapi?)

Doer adalah pelaku tindakan dalam sebuah kalimat. Dalam kalimat aktif, doer adalah subjek
yang melakukan tindakan, sedangkan dalam kalimat pasif, doer disebutkan setelah kata by, atau
bisa juga dihilangkan jika tidak penting.

1. Dalam kalimat aktif, doer selalu menjadi fokus.

o Contoh: Rani reads the book.
 Rani adalah doer (pelaku yang membaca buku).
2. Dalam kalimat pasif, fokusnya beralih ke penerima tindakan.
o Contoh: The book is read by Rani.
 Rani adalah doer (pelaku), tapi yang ditekankan adalah "buku yang dibaca".
