deleted the "Windowsapps" folder in C:\Program Last updated September 3, 2024

Files... What now? Views 5,978

I thought the WindowsApps folder was useless and backed it up and forcefully deleted it Applies to:
but then I just realised that it's very important for computers.
Multiple apps have been forcefully uninstalled and because of that, my computer is a little broken (probably very). Windows / Windows 10 /
I deleted it a couple days ago and have been trying to constantly get it back with no luck. Files, folders, and storage
Does anyone know of anyway I can get it back?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Windows technical expert. I'll be happy to help
you out today.

If you have not already done so, use Powershell to restore the Windows UWP apps. To do this, right-click
the Start menu > select Windows PowerShell (admin) > paste the following command: Get-AppxPackage -
allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -
DisableDevelopmentMode}

It should be noted that supplemental non-critical UWP apps are stored in the WindowsApps folder. Critical
UWP apps like Start menu, desktop shell outside explorer, and settings panels are stored elsewhere. Either
way, both should not be buggered with.

it seems that that command used within powershell (yes I did run it as admin) does not work
it works for about 50% of the apps which are the ones I have no problem with. Then, going down the line,
it starts inputting errors with the specific apps I am having problems with.

If you can access the Windows Store then search for the missing apps and install them. If no love with
Store, then use DISM to scan for and repair the Windows image:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

If either detects issue, then run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If still no lucj, then you will need to repair your Windows image with source files. To do this, download the
Windows 10 2004 ISO ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...). Afterwards, mount the
image (right-click > mount). Then run DISM to repair, e.g. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image
/RestoreHealth /Source:c:\test\mount\windows /LimitAccess

See this link for details: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa...

did those too, none of those worked. They didn't detect anything.

Start the Windows Recovery Environment and perform a repair. Otherwise, if you have another Windows
10 computer, copy the WindowsApp folder to external storage and copy to borked computer.

Hey
Sorry for the late response, I've been busy.
I did that and I've managed to get most applications back (such as voice recorder, films and tv, etc)
But there's still one app I'm missing which is, the microsoft store. Which is really important to me!
I need to get the microsoft store back somehow, does anyone know of anyway?
