Rules to follow
Mount tyres with the same exterior diameter
(or slightly smaller)
The speedometer must not read below the
actual speed. When travelling at 25 to 75 mph,
the speedometer can read up to 10% more than
the actual speed
Mount tyres with a load index equal to or
greater than that of the original tyres
Mount tyres with a speed index equal to or
greater than that of the original tyres (except
for snow tyres. More information)
Check to see that rim width and diameter
are suitable for the tyre
When using different front and rear tyre
dimensions on SUVs and vehicles equiped with
anti-lock and anti-slip systems (ABS, ASR), the
distance travelled over one turn must be taken
into account
Make sure that any dimension changes you
plan to make do not pose mechanical problems
(required space, extending beyond the vehicle
body...)
strong>Check with a MOT test station that
the dimensions of the mounted tyres are
approved for the use of your vehicle.

Equivalency tables
The below table provides you the tyre widths
you can fit compared to the rim width.
e.g. for an 6" rim, tyres whose width is 175,
185, 195 or 205 can be fitted.
