Geographic information System (GIS)


Course: CS497
Autumn 2024
This project is to enable the students to
 Collect data from different sources
 Synthesize and store the data
 Process, Analyze and interpret the collected data using ArcGIS.
 Prepare map of Addis Ababa as a whole.
1. Collect coordinates of the potential traffic congested road junctions in your area using your
mobile GPS and organize the data in excel and save as ‘csv’ format.
2. Collect Addis Ababa shape file and road base map from ArcGIS base map
3. Digitize all main and medium level road running to the junction point in your area
4. Prepare a map for each group
5. Join the group map to generate Addis Ababa road network with traffic congested junctions
6. Add field data to your map with Field names “flow/hour and flow/day ”
a. Collect traffic flow rate from Traffic offices in the area Preferable if per hour at pick
time (morning and late afternoon) and per day
 Deliverable are Short report in PDF and softcopy of your ArcGIS data (Please make your data is
manageable- only final outputs are needed)
 Font: size: 12, type: Times New Romans
 Dead line: A week before final (tentative)
 Group is assigned to Addis Ababa sub cities organized as
I. Yeka
II. Bole
III. Akaki Kality
IV. N/silk
V. Arada, Adisketema Lideta and Kerkos
VI. Gulelle
VII. Kolfie
 We will make lottery/fate to the group Assignment (Preferable if interest comes first)
