Installation guide for transformers filled with N2

First working day: -

1- Stop Impact recorder and get out the flow chart
2- Record the nitrogen value (more than 0.2 bar)
3- Record the weather temperature and humidity (Humidity less than 70%).
4- Install the radiators at high voltage side
5- Install the radiators at low voltage side
6- Install the conservator with airbag detector device
7- Install conservator pipes (vacuum pipes and Install airbag pipe)
8- Check the nitrogen value if it more than 0,2 bar otherwise apply vacuum from filtration
valve for main tank till next working day

2nd working day: -

1- Record the vacuum value
2- Install turrets and bushing of L.V
3- Install turret and bushing of H.V
4- Install tertiary bushing
5- Install remaining radiators in low voltage side
6- Apply vacuum on main tank from filtration valve till next working day and record the
vacuum value every two hours

3Th working day: -

1- Record the vacuum value
2- Install the Buchhloz relay pipe line
3- Install the feeding line pipes of high voltage turret
4- Install the feeding line pipes of low voltage turret
5- Install the tap changer pipes
6- Install silica gel pipes line and Install gas sample device
7- Do the insulation test (Megger test) for core and clamp
8- Apply vacuum on (main tank conservator, main tank, Air bag, OLTC and Radiators) from
main vacuum valve
9- Running vacuum machine till vacuum reaches (0.6 mbar) than keeping the vacuum
machine running for (48) hours after achieving 0.6 mbar and record the vacuum value
every two hours
10- Check if there is any leakage or no; if there is leakage treat it.
4th working day
1- Keep the vacuum machine on transformer running and record the vacuum value every
two hours

2- Connect protection devices cables

3- Install cooling fans

5th working day

1- Keep the vacuum machine running on transformer and record the vacuum value every
two hours

6th working day

1- Keep the vacuum machine running on transformer during filling process
2- The oil will come from our factory ready for filling, check the temperature of the oil if it
less than 60°C; we will heat the oil until reach 60°C otherwise start filling process.
3- Start filling oil from external tank to main tank of transformer (the speed of filling 3000-
4000lt. / hr. and the oil temperature must be 60°C.) until the oil level is 200mm under
top of tank; keep vacuum machine running and stop filling for 2 hours; then continue
filling oil under vacuum.
Take care that you should take sample before filling process from the oil inside the external
tank; the sample must achieve the following results (Dielectric strength of oil min 65kV;
Water content less than 10ppm).

7th working day

1- Keep the vacuum machine running on transformer during filling process

2- Continue filling oil from external tank to main transformer up to +20 levels inside the
conservator; then you should stop filling the oil when you reach that oil level.
3- Take air from radiators
4- Take air from all devices
5- Take air from Buchhloz
6- Take air from OLTC
7- Take air from all bushing
8th working day
1- Start filtration process on the transformer (set temperature of filtration machine at 70°C)
for 48hrs after the oil temperature reaches 60°C.

Take care you must close the radiators at filtration stage

9th working day: -

1- Continue filtration process on transformer; and record the oil temperature of
transformer every two hrs.

10th working day: -

1- Continue filtration process on transformer; and record the oil temperature of
transformer every two hrs.

11th working day

1- Continue filtration process on transformer; and record the oil temperature of
transformer every two hrs.

12th working day

1. Continue filtration process on transformer.

2. Before stopping the filtration process you must take sample from the oil inside the
transformer and the sample must achieve the following results (Dielectric strength of oil min
65kV; Water content less than 10ppm and Oil power factor (tan delta) less than 0.05%

3. Take air from radiators

4. Take air from all devices, bushing, OLTC and transformer

13th working day

1- Continue filtration process on transformer.

14th working day

1. Continue filtration process on transformer.
15th working day
1. Continue filtration process on transformer.

16th working day

2. Continue filtration process on transformer.

17th working day

1. Continue filtration process on transformer.

18th working day

1. Leave the transformer two days for settling

19th working day

1. Continue settling time

20th working day

1- Check the oil level inside the conservator if it less than +20, you suppose to fill it up to
reach +20. Fill through the Conservator drain pipe.
2- Take air from all devices, bushing, OLTC and transformer
3- Do site test: -
a- Ratio test
b- DC Resistance
c- Capacitance and Dissipation test (Tan delta)
d- Insulation test (Megger test)
e- DGA
f- CT checks
