Question No 16 to 19 are Very short answer Type questions of 2 marks each,
Q.16 The exterior angles obtained on producing the base of a triangle both ways are 100° and 120°. 2
Find all the angles of the triangle.

Solution- Solution- Let, ABC be a triangle & base BC produced to both sides. Exterior
angles are ∠ABD &∠ACE.

Therefore,∠ABD = 100°∠ACE = 120°

We know that, linear pair of triangle;
=) ∠ABD + ∠ABC = 180°
=) ∠ABC = 180° - ∠ABD
=) ∠ABC = 180° - 100°
=) ∠ABC = 80°
&
∠ACE + ∠ACB = 180° [Linear pair]
=) 120° + ∠ACB= 180°
=) ∠ACB= 180° -120°
=) ∠ACB= 60°
So,
In ∆ABC,
∠A + ∠B+ ∠C= 180°
=) ∠A + 80° + 60° = 180°
=) ∠A + 140° = 180°
=) ∠A = 180° -140°
=) ∠A= 40°
Thus, angles of triangles are 40°, 80° & 60°.
OR
In Fig. , ∠1 = 60° and ∠6 = 120°. Show that the lines m and n are parallel. 2

Given In the figure ∠1 = 60° and ∠6 = 120°

To show m||n
Proof Since, ∠1 = 60° and ∠6 = 120°
Here, ∠1 = ∠3 [vertically opposite angles]
∠3 = ∠1 = 60°
Now, ∠3 + ∠6 = 60° + 120°
=> ∠3 + ∠6 = 180°
We know that, if the sum of two interior angles on same side of l is 180°, then lines are
parallel.
Hence, m || n

Q.17 A storage tank is in the form of a cube. When it is full of water, the volume of 2
water is 15.625 m3. If the present depth of water is 1.3 m, find the volume of
wateralready used from the tank.

Solution- Let each edge of the tank be a m

volume of water in the water=(a^2)m^3

But volume of water is given=15.625 m^3

a3=15.625

=15625/1000

=125/8

a =(5/2)

Thus,each edge of the tank is 2.5m

present depth=1.3m

Volume of water=(2.5×2.5×1.3)m^3

=(5/2×5/2×13/10)m^3

=65/8m3

=8.125 m3

Volume of water used from tank=

=(15.625-8.125)m3
=7.5 m3
OR
A semi-circular sheet of metal of diameter 28cm is bent to form an open conical 2
cup. Find the capacity of the cup.

Solution- Slant height of the conical cup, 'l' = radius of the semi-circular sheet, R = 14 cm
Let radius and height of the conical cup be 'r' and 'h' respectively.
Circumference of the base of the cone = Length of arc of the semi-circle
Or, 2πr = (1/2)2πR
Or, 2πr = (1/2)(2π)(14)
Or, r = 7 cm
Now, we know that l² = h² + r²
(14)² = (h)² + (7)²
h² = 196 - 49
h = √147
Height or depth of the conical cup = 12.124 cm
Now, capacity of the conical cup = 1/3πr²h
= 1/3*22/7*7*7*12.124
= 13069.672/21
Capacity of the conical cup = 622.365 cu cm
Q.18 The diagonals of a rectangle ABCD meet at O if angle BOC = 44 o find angle OAD. 2
Solution- in a given figure,

angle BOC=angle A O D. (vertically opposite angle)

so,

angle AOD =44

in triangle AOD,

angle OAD= angle ODA. (opp angles of Iso. Tri.)

angle A O D + angle OAD + angle ODA= 180

44+angle OAD + angle OAD=180

2(angle OAD)=136
angle OAD=68

Q.19 In given Fig, two lines AB and CD intersect each other at the point O such that BC || DA 2
and BC = DA. Show that O is the midpoint of both the line-segments AB and CD.

Solution- In △OBC and △OAD

BC=DA (Given)
∠OCB=∠ODA (∵CB∥DA, so alternate opposite angles are equal)
∠OBC=∠OAD (∵CB∥DA, so alternate opposite angles are equal)
∴△OBC≅△OAD (By ASA criterion)
Thus, CO=DO and BO=AO (By C.P.C.T.)
So, O is the midpoint of AB and CD.

Solution- 3x – x – 70
2

= 3x2-15x+14x-70
= 3x(x-5)-14(x-5)
= (x-5)(3x-14)
(ii) If x + y = 10 and xy = 24, find the value of x3 + y3. 1.5
Solution- Given: x + y = 10 and xy = 24
x3 + y3= (x+y)3-3xy(x+y)
= (10)3-3(24)(10)
= 1000-720
= 280
OR
Factorize: x3+13x2+32x+20
Solution- x3 +13x2 +32x+20
= x2 (x+1)+12x (x+1)+20 (x+1)
= (x+1) (x 2 +12x+20)
= (x+1) (x2 +10x+2x+20)
= (x+1) [x(x+10)+2(x+10)]
= (x+1)(x+2)(x+10)

Q.21 In given figure, DE || QR and AP and BP are bisectors of ∠ EAB and ∠ RBA, 3
respectively. Find ∠APB.

Solution- Given: DE∥QR, AP bisects ∠EAB, BP bisects ∠RBA

Since, DE∥QR
∠EAB+∠RBA=1800
𝟏
𝟐
(∠EAB+∠RBA)=900
∠PAB+∠PBA=900 (AP bisects ∠EAB, BP bisects ∠RBA)
Now, In △PAB
∠PAB+∠PBA+∠APB=1800
900+∠APB=1800
∠APB=900
OR
In given Fig, the sides AB and AC of ∆ABC are produced to points E and D respectively.
If bisectors BO and CO of ∠ CBE and ∠ BCD respectively meet at point O, then prove
that
1
∠ BOC = 90° –2∠BAC.

Solution- Ray BO is the bisector of ∠ CBE.

Therefore, ∠ CBO =1/2∠ CBE
=1/2(180° – y)
= 90° – y/2 -(1)

Similarly, ray CO is the bisector of ∠ BCD.

Therefore, ∠ BCO =1/2∠ BCD
=1/2(180° – z)
= 90° – z/2 -(2)
In ∆ BOC, ∠ BOC + ∠ BCO + ∠ CBO = 180° -(3)
Substituting (1) and (2) in (3), you get
∠ BOC + 90° – z/2+ 90° – y/2= 180°
So, ∠ BOC =z/2+ y/2
or, ∠ BOC =(y + z) -(4)
But, x + y + z = 180° (Angle sum property of a triangle)
Therefore, y + z = 180° – x
Therefore, (4) becomes
∠ BOC =(180° – x)
= 90° – x/2
= 90° – ∠ BAC

Q.22 In given Fig, ABC is a right triangle and right angled at B such that ∠BCA = 2 ∠BAC 3
and BD= BC . Show that hypotenuse AC = 2 BC.

Solution- In △ABD and △ABC we have BD=BC (given)

AB=AB [Common]
∠ABD=∠ABC=900
∴ By SAS criterion of congruence we get
△ABD ≅ △ABC
⇒AD=AC and ∠DAB=∠CAB [By CPCT]
⇒AD=AC and ∠DAB=x [∴∠CAB=x]
Now, ∠DAC=∠DAB+∠CAB=x+x=2x
∴∠DAC=∠ACD
⇒DC=AD [Side Opposite to equal angles]
⇒2BC=AD since DC=2BC
⇒2BC=AC Since AD=AC
Hence proved.

Q.23 Find the area of a triangle two sides of which are 18cm and 10cm and the perimeter is 3
42cm.
Solution- Given,Side a=18cm, Side b=10cm
Perimeter=42cm=a+b+c
42=18+10+c
42=28+c
42-28=c
14=c
Now,
S=(a+b+c)/2
S=42/2
S=21
Now according to Heron's formula-
Area of a triangle
=√{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}
:. Putting value
=√{21(21-18)(21-10)(21-14)}
=√{21(3)(11)(7)}
=√4851
=21√11cm²

Q.24 Construct a triangle ABC in which BC = 5 cm, ∠B = 60° and AC + AB = 7.5 cm. 3

Solution-

Q.25 A right triangle with sides 6 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm is revolved about the side 8 cm. 3
Find the volume and the curved surface of the solid so formed.
Solution- when a right triangle with sides 6 cm, 8cm and 10 cm is revolved about the side 8 cm,
them
solid formed is a cone whose height of a cone, h = 8 cm and radius of a cone, r = 6cm.
1 1 22 6336
slant height of a cone = 𝜋𝑟 2 h = × ×6×6×8 = = 301.7cm3
3 3 7 21
and curved surface area of a cone =πrl
22 1320
= 7
× 6 × 10= 7
= 188.5cm3
Hence, the volume and surface area of a cone are 301.7cm3 and 188.5cm3 , respectively .
SECTION D
Q.26 (i) Mean of 50 observations was found to be 80.4. But later on, it was discovered that 3
96 was misread as 69 at one place. Find the correct mean.

Solution- Sum of all 50 observations = mean * no of observation = 80.4x 50 = 4020 now

according to question 96 was misread by 69 So the new sum of observation = 4020 - 69 + 96 =
4020 + 27 = 40.47 now new mean = 4047/50 = 80.94 answer

(ii) Ten observations 6, 14, 15, 17, x + 1, 2x – 13, 30, 32, 34, 43 are written in an 2
ascending order. The median of the data is 24. Find the value of x.
Solution- No: of observations = 10
As the No: of observations is even ,
Median = [( n/2th observation) + (n/2)+1 th observation] ÷ 2
n/2 th observation = 5 th observation = x+1
(n/2)+1 th observation = 6th observation = 2 x-13
[x+1 + 2x -13] ÷ 2 = median
[x+1 + 2x -13] ÷ 2 = 24
(3x - 12) ÷ 2 = 24
3x - 12 = 24 × 2
3x - 12 = 48
3x = 48 + 12
3x = 60
x = 60 ÷ 3
∴ x = 20

Q.27 (i) One angle of a quadrilateral is of 108oand the remaining three angles are equal. 1
Find each of the three equal angles.
Solution- Let each of the three equal angles be x°.
Now, sum of angles of a quadrilateral = 360°
⇒ 108° + x° + x° + x° = 360° ⇒ 3x° = 360° – 108°
x° = 252°/3
⇒ x° = 84°
∴ x° = 84°
Hence, each of the three equal angles is 84°.

<AFE=<CFD (Vertically opp. angles)
<EAF=<DCF [Alt. angles,BA II CD(by construction) and AC is a transversal]
So,Triangle AEF = CDF(ASA)
EF=FD AND AE = CD (c.p.c.t)
AE=BE(E is midpoint of AB)
BE=CD(from 5 and 6)
EBCD is a IIgm [BA II CD (by construction) and BE = CD(from 7)]
EF II BC AND ED=BC (Since EBCD is a IIgm)
EF = 1/2 ED (Since EF = FD,from 5)
EF = 1/2 BC (Since ED = BC,from 9)
Hence,EF II BC AND EF = 1/2 BC which proves the mid-point theorem.

(i) Angles of a quadrilateral are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 4 : 7. Find all the 1
angles of the quadrilateral.

Solution- 3x+4x+4x+7x=360

18x=360

x=

x=20

therefore, the angles are:-

60,80,80 and 140

(ii) ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AB = AC. AD bisects exterior 4

angle PAC and CD || AB (see Fig. 8.14). Show that
(i)∠ DAC = ∠ BCA and (ii) ABCD is a parallelogram.

Solution- (i) ∆ ABC is isosceles in which AB = AC (Given)

So, ∠ ABC = ∠ ACB (Angles opposite to equal sides)
Also, ∠ PAC = ∠ ABC + ∠ ACB

(Exterior angle of a triangle)

or, ∠ PAC = 2∠ ACB (1)

Now, AD bisects ∠ PAC.
So, ∠ PAC = 2∠ DAC (2)
Therefore,
2∠ DAC = 2∠ ACB [From (1) and (2)]
or, ∠ DAC = ∠ ACB
(ii) Now, these equal angles form a pair of alternate angles when line segments BC
and AD are intersected by a transversal AC.
So, BC || AD
Also, BA || CD (Given)
Now, both pairs of opposite sides of quadrilateral ABCD are parallel.
So, ABCD is a parallelogram.
