SAFETY SUMMARY
PETROLATUM
Petrolatum is flammable and toxic. Good general ventila-
tion is normally adequate. Skin and eye protection is
required. Avoid all sources of ignition.
NOISE HAZARD
A Noise Hazard exists when the AN/APN-59 Search/Weather
System Receiver-Transmitter is operating. Hearing protec-
tion is required when maintenance is being performed in the
nose landing gear area when the radar is on.
INTRODUCTION
SCOPE.
This manual provides illustrated, step-by-step, organizational
level maintenance procedures for the Landing Gear System
Nose Gear.
USE.
This manual has been developed for use by both experienced
and less experienced maintenance mechanics. Key words in
each task are presented in boldface type. Experienced
mechanics may use these key words to avoid the necessity of
reading the complete detailed instructions. Less experienced
mechanics should read the entire procedure.
ARRANGEMENT.
Instructions in this manual are arranged in a function/task
format with procedural steps on a left-hand page, supported
by an illustration on a right-hand page. Index numbers on an
illustration identify components requiring action. These
index numbers follow the component names in the procedural
steps. Placarding differences between airplane models are
separated in the text by a slash.
A function is made up of a task or series of tasks and
illustrations which support maintenance of a system or com-
ponent. Typical tasks are removal, installation, adjustment,
rigging, operational checkout, etc. All steps within a task
must be accomplished to complete the task. All tasks within a
function must be accomplished to complete the function.
All steps listed under follow on maintenance must be accom-
plished when a function has been completed.
Change 1 v
TO 1C-130H-2-32JG-20-1
INPUT CONDITIONS.
The input conditions page at the start of each function con-
tains information required to prepare the airplane for mainte-
nance and lists the recommended number of people to com-
plete the function. Each mechanic is given a mechanic
identification letter and is assigned a primary work station.
Consumable supplies, special tools and test equipment, and
additional manuals are also listed.
All coordination with the mechanics in the
WARNING flight station, cargo compartment,
underdeck, wings, and wheel well areas
requires a positive response that these
mechanics have properly understood the
action to be taken, and confirmation that
the action has been completed. Failure to
comply could cause injury to personnel and
damage to the airplane.
At the start of each task, it is the responsibility of mechanic A
to brief all other mechanics on their individual assignments
and responsibilities. Mech A shall be in control of the entire
task. No step within the task shall be performed until a
specific request is made by Mech A.
ILLUSTRATIONS.
Illustrations include a location view of equipment and index
numbers for each component part on which maintenance is
being performed. When a function/task requires more than
one set of pages, the index number sequence starts with
number 1 on each illustration page.
Switch positions, control settings, and indication displays
shown on illustrations may not match those called out in the
related instructions.
