HAP

Hourly Analysis Program

The Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) is a powerful tool by
carrier used by HVAC Engineers, Energy Auditors and
Manufacturers to estimate building cooling and heating loads. It
Incorporates ASHRAE (American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers) energy and
ventilation standards, streamlining the calculation process.
→ Step 1: Checking Units
Before starting ensure you’ve selected correct
measurement units (Metric or English) as per project
requirements. Mostly international projects use SI
units but always verify with project specifications.
→ Step 2: Weather Data (Outdoor Design Conditions)

Input location data: Enter the region, country and city of the project to
fetch built-in weather data.
Cross-check: Compare HAP data with design reports or
client Information for:
• Summer peak dry bulb and Wet bulb temperatures
• Latitude, Longitude,
• Dry bulb, Wet bulb
• Elevation.
Manual input: If data for a specific city is unavailable, input it manually.
→ Step 3: Space Input Data
Space details:
 Input detailed information for each space, including:
 Area, height, exposures
 Window,
 Wall, toilet partition,
 Floor, and ceiling partition
Internal heat gains:
 Lighting (Use ASHRAE 90.1 data or get it from the electrical team)
 Occupancy (Calculate based on furniture layouts or ASHRAE 62.1)
 Equipment (Refer to ASHRAE Fundamentals Table 12 or get specific
equipment data from the electrical team)
 Miscellaneous loads (Other heat sources not accounted for elsewhere)
→ Step 4: U Values
 Define the overall heat transfer coefficient (U-Value) for
each element (windows, walls, roof, etc.)
 Get external wall and roof U-Values, window U-Values,
shading coefficient from the architect
 Calculate U-Values for toilet partitions and internal walls.
Fresh Air → Outside Air
Supply Air → AC unit’s Recirculating air (No Oxygen)

Fresh Air Supply by Two Methods:- →

OA/Ventilation
 Conditioned – Fresh air
Equipments
FAHU – Fresh Air Handling Unit
ERV – Energy Recovery Ventilation
 Un-Condition – Fresh Air
Fresh air estimated/supplied by amount of occupant
Activity Level:-
 Sedentary Work

→ Choose only when like walking area

 Heavy work

→ Choose only when like commercial kitchen

 Medium Work

→ Choose only when like Residential kitchen/Pantry

Internals:-
 Lighting |→ ASHARE 90.1 – Year

 Occupancy/People |→ ASHARE 62.1 – Year

 Equipment |→ ASHARE fundamentals Table

12
Eg:- Computers
Miscellaneous Load |→ Table 5A if unhooded
Fixture Type:-
 Vented
→ No Return diffuser needed
 Unvented | eg:- Kitchen, Toilet
→ Return diffuser used
Occupancy:-
#/100 × Space Area,

Lighting:-
Space area x watts x ballast multiplier,
Ballast multiplier is a safety factors in lighting, the space watts are
multiple by 1.1 or 1.2
Schedule:-
Schedule are for category by creating new schedule
 Lighting
 People
 Equipment
 Miscellaneous

Floor Partition
 Slab Floor On Grade:-
Which means the floor above soil

 Slab Floor Below grade:-

Which means the floor below the soil
Infiltration:-
Generally, 0.15 – 0.3 ACH
 Infiltration is the flow of outdoor air into the building/space
through cracks and other intentional openings
Eg:- Doors, window
 Infiltration is also known as air leakage into the building

Exfiltration:-
Exfiltration is the leakage of indoor air out of the building
through similar type of openings
SYSTEM
FCU → Chilled water AHU

Terminal Units
{ 2 Pipe coil
4 Pipe coil }
VRF (Variable Refrigent Flow)

Split type unit – (Dx Type)

Direct Expansion
700 L/S for FCU
VRF → Multiple indoors and one outdoor
Eg:- Split, FCU Central are connected to one outdoor called VRF
→ Split type, 2pipe – 4pipe
AHU FCU
Both are same type of operation
Large equipment Small equipment
Max Capacity 600-700KW one AHU
Used where ducts can rooted Used if duct cannot be rooted
Used in plant room because plant room has
to maintain a certain temp for 24/7
VAV CAV

System Components:-.
 Ventilation
 Central cooling
 Supply fan
 Duct system
 Draw Throw  Blow Throw

Supply Fan → “Draw Throw” type used only in AHU & FAHU
Draw through Blow through
Some amount of moisture remove by fan Cooling coil has to maintain specific
heat distance
Big equipment size
Low initiate cost High initiate cost
High efficiency
Low maintenance cost High maintenance cost
