What is Internet?

• The Internet is the foremost important tool and the prominent


resource that is being used by almost every person across the
globe. It connects millions of computers, webpages, websites, and
servers. Using the internet we can send emails, photos, videos, and
messages to our loved ones.
• Or in other words, the Internet is a widespread interconnected
network of computers and electronic devices(that support Internet).
It creates a communication medium to share and get information
online. If your device is connected to the Internet then only you will
be able to access all the applications, websites, social media apps,
and many more services. The Internet nowadays is considered the
fastest medium for sending and receiving information.
Applications of Internet
The applications of internet are:
.Communication (via social media, email, chat rooms, etc.)
•Web browsing and information access
•Online shopping
•Real-time updates and information sharing
•Social media
•Job search and remote work
•Education and learning
•Travel and transportation
History of Internet
1.The history of the internet can be summarized as
follows:Emergence in the United States in the 1970s: The
internet started as a military defense system in the Cold War
and gradually became visible to the public in the early 1990s.
2.Worldwide. Evolution and Growth: Over the years, it
evolved from a communication tool for scientists and
researchers to a global network used for almost everything by
people worldwide.
3.Key Milestones: These include the creation of ARPANET,
development of packet switching and TCP/IP, the birth of the
World Wide Web, and the expansion of broadband and
mobile internet.
Internet Architecture
Internet architecture refers to the structure of the Internet. It
is the framework that defines how electronic components of
the Internet interact with each other. The Internet
architecture includes the hardware, software, protocols, and
standards that make up the Internet.

Some of the examples of internet architecture are:


TCP/IP, Ethernet, and FTP are all protocols that are commonly
used in networks. TCP/IP is used for connecting to the
Internet, Ethernet is used for connecting one computer to
another, and FTP is used for sending and receiving files to and
Internet Service Provider(ISPs)
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is an organization that provides
services for accessing, using, managing, or participating in the
Internet.
Internet services typically provided by ISPs can include internet
access, internet transit, domain name registration, web hosting,
and colocation.
The internet began as a closed network between government
research laboratories and universities and colleges.
The services and service combinations may be unique to each
ISP.
