The law is life”, is my personal motto, because for me the law is the basis of every
person's right to exist and also the foundation of the development of every community
and every country. I have always been inclined to discover how legal rules help in
establishing order and balance in our society and it was this inquisitiveness of mine that
led me to pursue relative courses for my undergraduate degree. Since law is a broad
spectrum, I wish to get acquainted with its intricate features to further boost my career as
a prominent professional of the field and uncover the enigma of the field through the
thorough apprehension of an advanced course of LLM from your prestigious institution.
At a young age, I developed a passion to learn more about the legal structure and
policies of a nation and was driven by the same secured admission to the program of
B.A LL.B at NBM law College Visakhapatnam, which is one of the prestigious Law
colleges in Andhra Pradesh, India. Throughout the span of five years, I was briefly
educated on the different branches of law and their implementation in our society.
Subjects like Constitutional Law, Civil Laws, Law of Crimes, Intellectual Properties Rights
and Arbitration(Corporate Law) etc. particularly captivated my interest and I look forward
to further expanding my intellect with regard to these courses with the help of an
advanced degree. I have always been interested in doing more for society rather than
just focusing on grades. I have been involved in the development of LGBTQ community
for their rights and have argued the case in the Supreme Court on the point of Article 14
of the Constitution of India “Right to Equality” and many other similar cases.
Through this experience, I was able to work closely with the Society and was keen to
participate in other extracurricular activities to ensure the holistic development of my
personality. I was the president of AP State Tribal Students Federation and also the
general secretary of Human Rights Forum, where I advocate for legal rights. More
specifically, I am interested in collaborating with others within the human rights forum.
We as a group used to come up with innovative ideas to ensure the upliftment and
development of women, children and LGBTQ in our society.
I always looked out for more practical opportunities to get a brief idea of how the cases
are prepared and debated in an actual court of law. With a desire to firsthand experience
the same, I looked out for beneficial internship opportunities and started my initial
experience interning at the Supreme Court under the supervision of Senior Advocate C
Nageswar Rao sir, I got to better understand the concepts of intellectual Property rights
and POSH Act.
After my graduation, I worked as an advocate in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and
Telangana for 3 years, where I was the junior to the advocate and argued several cases
under him. One of the most interesting cases that I argued was the landmark case on
amendment of the Code of Criminal Procedure, namely T. Natarajan vs. S. Tejraj, Rule
106 of Order 21 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.I
am currently working as an associate attorney at the Supreme Court for 5 years now.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to argue some of the few landmark cases and
the most interesting and satisfying for me is the one aimed at granting rights to the
LGBTQ community which is Supriyo@Supriya Chakraborty & Anr V/s Union of India writ
petition (civil) No.1011(2022).I got to work on my drafting and research oriented skills. I
have worked for other distinctive legal personalities and each experience has been
equally nourishing and educational.
The Stanford University is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the
whole of USA as well as the world and is consistently ranked among the top ten
universities in the world, which is a great reflection on the maintained quality of education
here. The university is known for its progressive legal programs and my inclination
towards the subject really grasped my interest. The offered program of LLM would help
me gain a more in-depth understanding of the various branches of law and I would get
the opportunity to conduct intensive research into my choice of the field. The lively
debates and competitive moot competitions conducted at the institution would grant me
an opportunity to work on my skill sets as I steadily transform myself to become a more
efficient and prominent professional of the field. The associated modules include Global
Litigation Law, International Business Negotiation, International Investment Law,
Immigration Law, etc which would prove beneficial for my career moving ahead.
Sincerely,
Prem Sathupati.
