Objectives:
TASK 1
DC motors are frequently utilized in machinery and devices that necessitate some level of
controlled rotary or motion capabilities, making them fundamental in numerous electrical
engineering endeavors. The importance of these motors lies in their wide range of
applications from consumer electronics to industrial equipment. A thorough
comprehension of the mechanisms behind DC motor functionality, along with the
intricacies of motor speed regulation, is indispensable for engineers. This deep
understanding allows them to craft and refine applications, leading to enhanced efficiency
and effectiveness in motion control systems. By mastering these concepts, engineers can
ensure their designs meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Investigate the speed characteristics of DC Shunt Motor based on armature, voltage and
field controls using MATLAB/Simulink. The modeling blocks should consist of the
followings:
• DC Machine • Current Measurement
• DC Voltage Source • Gain
• Series RLC Branch • Display
• Bus Selector • Scope
• Voltage Measurement
Select the type of DC motor of your choice, identify minimum five (5) input and output
values for each of the speed control simulation as the followings:
• Voltage Control
• Field Control
• Armature Control
Comment on the performance of the motor and provide your inference.
TASK 2
To accurately evaluate the voltage regulation and overall efficiency of a transformer, it's
imperative to ascertain its impedance values. This process involves a meticulous analysis
that goes beyond simple measurements, incorporating both open-circuit and short-circuit
tests to gather comprehensive data on the transformer's operational characteristics.
Through these tests, engineers can obtain detailed insights into the transformer's internal
resistance and reactance, enabling them to fine-tune the system for optimal performance.
This methodical approach ensures a thorough understanding of the transformer's electrical
behavior, paving the way for enhancements in both efficiency and voltage stability.
Identify the input and output values of the simulation and calculate the circuit parameters
of the transformer as the followings:
• Iron losses and core parameters of the transformer
• Cu losses and winding parameters of the transformer
• Verification to the transformer properties
• Use 2 different nominal voltage input values for the above testing and compare
their results.
