1
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT

“A social issue is a problem that affects many people within a society.

It is a group of common problems in present-day society that many
people strive to solve. It is often the consequence of factors extending
beyond an individual's control. Social issues are the source of
conflicting opinions on the grounds of what is perceived as morally
correct or incorrect.”
The various types of social issues include: -
 Poverty and Unemployment
 Crimes against Women and Child
 Drug abuse
 Other crimes
 Education and Health issues
 Political and Economic issues
 Cultural and environmental issues
 Discrimination on the basis of Caste, Gender,
Religion
In other words, the term ‘Social Issues’ echoes the
problems faced by the society as a whole either directly
or indirectly. Some of these issues are international, i.e.,
common for all countries, while some of these issues are
very much specific to India.

2
OBJECTIVES

Social Issues is a major part of our society and can be

considered a rot in the fruit. It restricts and exploits
multiple individuals including those from the weaker
sections of society while also being a wall in the face of
the country’s progression. Thus, it is necessary to take up
the whole swathe of social issues.

The objectives of taking up social issues are-

 To create a sense of awareness among the people of
society.
 To create pressure on the political arena.
 To provide support to the victims.
 To prevent Social, National and International downfall
as social issues affect society as well as economies.

The objective element of a social problem refers to the

existence of a social condition. We become aware of
social conditions through our own life experience, through
the media, and through education. We see the homeless,
hear gunfire in the streets, and see bartered women in
hospital emergency rooms. These are all example of
objectives.

HISTORY/ BACKGROUND/ DEVELOPMENT

History
Exemplary for social issues was the so-called social
question in the beginning of the industrial revolution.
Growing poverty on one and growing population
and materialistic wealth on the other hand caused
tension between very rich and poorest people inside
society. So social issues as a whole began to prosper
during the industrial revolution.
Background
Social issues are the source of conflicting opinions on the
grounds of what is perceived as morally correct or
incorrect personal life or interpersonal social life
decisions. Social issues are distinguished from economic
issues; however, some issues (such as immigration) have
both social and economic aspects.
Development
The socio-economic background of a person shows how
he interacts with the society. For example- Dalits did not
have access to education in the past due to which they
form the majority of the poor in India. This situation of
social issues often affects development.

SURVEY/ RESEARCH

World’s situation

The above survey on social issues shows the worlds performance on the
index. It is noticeable that only Nutrition and Knowledge has had a significant
improvement while water and shelter is just above the index score. The
remaining 8 aspects are still way below the index score highlighting that
social issues need to be taken up in a much more concerned manner

Upon surveying 10 people of my society, I noticed that the most

common social issue faced is religious discrimination.
The questions I asked included-
1. What are your thought on Social issues?

5
2. Do you face any social issue?
3. How do we combat social issues?
4. Does social issues affect the country’s development?
5. Is social issues present in the political sphere?

CONCLUSION
There are various social issues present in the society. The moment we
step out of our house, we notice various episodes of social issues. We
see children working instead of attending schools, people begging for
alms because of their caste, women being abused, drugs being
consumed. In fact, these situations are so common that we rarely take
notice of it even in hindsight.
Thus, social issues are a topic that must be confronted for the betterment
of the world in general and people in particular. If not, we can expect the
collapse of balance in society.
