Gaudeamus igitur Interpretation

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gaudeamus igitur, While we’re young, let us rejoice,
Iuvenes dum sumus! Singing out in gleeful tones;
Post iucundam iuventutem After youth’s delightful frolic,
Post molestam senectutem And old age (so melancholic!),
Nos habebit humus. Earth will cover our bones.

Ubi sunt, qui ante nos Where are those who trod this globe
In mundo fuere, In the years before us?
Vadite ad superos, They in hellish fires below,
Transite ad inferos, Or in Heaven’s kindly glow,
Ubi iam fuere. Swell th’ eternal chorus.

Vita nostra brevis est, Life is short and all too soon
Brevi finietur, We emit our final gasp;
Venit mors velociter, Death ere long is on our back;
Rapit nos atrociter, Terrible is his attack;
Nemini parcetur. None escapes his dread grasp.

Vivat Academia, Long live our academy,

Vivant professores, Teachers whom we cherish;
Vivat membrum quodlibet, Long live all the graduates,
Vivant membra quaelibet, And the undergraduates;
Semper sint in flore! Ever may they flourish.

Vivant omnes virgines Long live all the maidens fair,

Faciles, formosae Easy-going, pretty;
Vivant et mulieres Long live all good ladies who
Tenerae, amabiles Are tender and so friendly to
Bonae, laboriosae. Students in this city.

Vivat et respublica, Long live our Republic and

Et qui illam regit, The gentlefolk who lead us;
Vivat nostra civitas, May the ones who hold the purse
Maecenatum caritas, Be always ready to disburse
Quae nos hic protegit. Funds required to feed us.

Pereat tristitia, Down with sadness, down with gloom,

Pereant osores, Down with all who hate us;
Pereat diabolus, Down with those who criticize,
Quivis Antiburschius, Look with envy in their eyes,
Atque irrisores. Scoff, mock and berate us.

Findings show that the levels of IEO is

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
generally higher among all students, but male
students exhibited a higher level of IEO than
female students with a small difference
between the levels that is not statistically
significant (t = 0.129, p = 0.904). The study
also reveals that there is a significant gender
imbalance among students in favor of male
students in TEVET institutions. Overall,
Entrepreneurship Education (EE) programs
provided in TEVET institutions have been found
to have a positive influence towards enhancing
student’s Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation
(IEO).

The analysis further revealed that even though

all the Entrepreneurial Orientation dimensions
being studied being Risk-taking, Innovation,
Competitive Aggressiveness, Autonomy,
Achievement Orientation, Learning Orientation,
Passion and Proactiveness has a positive
impact on enhancing the students IEO, the
Risk-taking and Autonomy dimensions had a low
impact of enhancing IEO on students on average
in TEVET institutions. This study contributes to
the understanding of the impact Entrepreneur-
ship Education (EE) has on students’ Individual
Entrepreneurial Orientation (IEO) and how
Entrepreneurship Education (EE) nurtures
entrepreneurial mindsets and behavior among
TEVET students in Zambia.
