Shoring Work Method Statement

1. PURPOSE

This method statement outlines the procedures for shoring work to ensure stability and safety

during excavation activities.

2. SCOPE

Applicable to all shoring activities at the project site, including installation, maintenance,

and removal.

- Relevant International and Local Standards

- Approved Drawings and Specifications

4. RESPONSIBILITIES

- Site Engineer: Supervise and ensure adherence to the method statement.

- Safety Officer: Ensure safety measures are implemented.

- Foreman: Execute work according to the approved plan.

5. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

- Steel sheets/panels for shoring

- Excavators

- Cranes (if required)

- PPE (helmets, gloves, safety boots, etc.)

- Other tools as necessary


6. METHOD OF WORK

6.1 Preparation

- Conduct a site survey to assess soil conditions and identify hazards.

- Review drawings and ensure required materials are available.

- Conduct toolbox talks to brief the team on safety measures.

6.2 Installation of Shoring

- Mark the excavation area and secure the perimeter with barricades.

- Excavate to the required depth while monitoring stability.

- Install shoring panels sequentially, ensuring they are adequately supported.

- Secure the panels using braces or hydraulic jacks.

6.3 Inspection and Monitoring

- Inspect shoring regularly for signs of instability or deformation.

- Ensure all workers are aware of the emergency procedures.

6.4 Dismantling

- Remove shoring panels in reverse order after ensuring excavation is backfilled or

stabilized.

- Dispose of materials properly.

7. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

- Use PPE at all times.

- Follow proper lifting techniques for heavy materials.

- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.


8. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

- In case of collapse or instability, evacuate the area immediately and inform the site

manager.

9. APPROVALS

This method statement must be reviewed and approved by the Project Manager and Safety Officer

before implementation.
