Course Outcomes :
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1 Compare and contrast various methods of static and dynamic analysis of planar
mechanisms.
4 Design systems like governors and flywheels for controlling speed and energy
fluctuations.
5. Determine natural frequencies and conditions for resonance of single and multi degree
systems.
Unit 1
Gyroscope: Principle of gyroscope, Gyroscopic torque, Roll, pitch and Yaw motions, Gyroscopic
effect in Aeroplanes, Naval ships, Automobiles and two wheelers.
Governors: Classification, The role of a centrifugal governor in speed control, Watt, Porter and
Hartnell type governors, speed vs lift curves, sensitiveness, Hunting, Isochronism, Effort, Power
and stability.
