How to make dog food super healthy
Dogs are similar, but each dog and their digestion is unique.
IMPORTANT
Exact quantities are not necessary. Stop stressing over their food, your dog is a dog
and they'll likely be super happy and super healthy just by you having this knowledge.

How to make dog food
cost effective
Step 1 - Sourcing the meat
Meat is the expensive part of the diet. If you can find meat
which costs less than £6 or $8 dollars per 1kg (2.2lbs) than you
will be making signifcanty savings by making the food.
[email protected] www.thedognutritionist.com 6
Small vs. Big Dog Digestion
Your dog's digestive system is adapted to their facultative carnivorous diet
(i.e. high-protein and high-fat diet) with a short and simple digestive tract.
That means their designed to eat more meats than humans.
Food Digestibility
How does this affect the digestibility of food? Well, in terms of
protein and fat digestion, studies have shown that these appear to
be equal between different dog sizes. However fibre digestibility
appears to be slightly higher in larger dogs than smaller dogs (4).

What to do IF there's a problem
Occasionally your dog will eat someting they shouldn't and then you
wake up with poo all over your house. This can happen, no matter the
diet you choose, but I want you to be prepared so you don’t freak out!
Reactions
• If your dog has a digestive issue, causing vommiting, diarrhoae
or itching. This can often be a reaction to a protein (a food
intolerance to a meat), or something they've eaten in the park.
• Use the upset stomach guide p42. Alternatively, if you want assistance
or there is a persistant issue, please sign up for a consultation.
• Vets are totally unqualified to deal with digestive issues.
Please don’t let this put you off, it's blip and your dog will recover!

How a puppy’s immune system develops
In starts with the health of the mother, then how healthy her breast milk is and finally what
they are exposed to within the first 2-6 months.
To make sure your puppies develop in the healthiest way possible, they need to be
exposed to “potential allergens” so their immune system can learn that they aren’t
threats and that they’re just a part of natural life.
If they aren’t exposed within the early parts of their life, when their immune system
can learn, then it’s more likely they’ll develop allergies in the future.
Try different ingredients, take your puppy to different parks (do and try as much
as you can with them in the first 6 months).
Find at least 4 varieties of recipes for your dog before the age of 6 months old.

Senior Dogs
Keep your dog bounding around, and protect against common aging
issues with functional foods and proper canine nutrition.
Anti Cancer
Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs, but certain functional
foods have been shown to be anti-cancer. Mushrooms, broccoli and
blueberries are all included in our recipe for senior dogs.
Mobility
Make sure your dog is lean and reducing pressure on their joints is the main way in
which you support molbity going into their later years. All they want is to continue
to do stuff with you, so use the joints boost recipes a few times a week.
Deficiencies
Continue to provide variety to ensure your dog has a complete
supply of nutritients. Use different recipes as well as using your dog's
favourite ingredients to provide optimal nutrition support.

Skin & Coat Health
This is how your dog becomes the glossiest pooch in the park.
Protein
Protein quality, from fresh foods (or more expensive meat) will make a huge difference
to your dog's appearance, as skin and hair is made of protein. That means for your
dog to reproduce the healthiest skin cells and hair follicles, they need quality protein.
Skin Inflammation
Inflammation plays a huge roll it dry itchy skin. Figuring out which foods
(mainly meats) your dog does best on, is paramount to avoid this issue. Avoid
inflammatory ingredients like cereals of diets high in carbohydrtaes.
You should also look at your dog's enviroment, and try to reduce exposure to
potential irratants. Avoid using chemical cleaning products in the house.
Coat Health
Washing your dog isn't always helpful, as it can affect the natural
biome of the skin and "self-cleaning" oils that are are released by their
hairs. Never shampoo your dog more than once a week, and only use
100% Natural Shampoo or the wash mix provided on page. 233.

Joint and Mobility Health
The longer your dog stays mobile, the happier they'll be.
Weight
Excess weight = extra pain.
It is your responsibilty to make sure your dog is lean if they have joint issues,
Joint Inflammation
Athritis is inflammation of the joints that is brought on by old age and wear/ tear,
but also by food ingredients. Avoid inflammatory ingredients like cereals or diets
that are high in carbohydrates. I would recommend NOT using carbohydrates
in your dog's meals for at least 50% of the time if they have joint issues.
NSAIDs
You must be careful with these, as there long term use is connected to whole host of
issues. In particular to kidney damage. You must balance the improved quality of life
that pain killers can provide, with the long term effects they most cetainly have.
Natural Anti-inflammatories
Diet play the biggest role in inflammation. Use my recipes as often as
possible and they will help control your dog's joint inflammation.
